Who was the original Barney tv character and what is his history?

horses4lif

THANKS!!

Answer
BARNEY HISTORY
Barney, the purple dinosaur, was created in 1987 by a former teacher named Sheryl Leach. Leach had dreamed of creating educational and entertaining videos for preschool children. She joined with another former teacher, Kathy Parker, and video producer, Dennis DesShazer, to tape the first Barney home videos. Initially, they envisioned the main character to be a cuddly bear which comes to life. After Leach noticed her toddler sonâs fascination with dinosaurs at a museum exhibit, the main character for the videos became the purple dinosaur we all know as âBarneyâ.

The first Barney home videos were released in 1988. Leach organized a sales team (dubbed âMom Blitzersâ) to sell the videos to toy and video stores across the country. In 1991, a Barney video was rented from a Connecticut video store for four-year-old Leora Rifkin, the daughter of Larry Rifkin. Rifkin happened to be the executive vice president of programming for Connecticut Public Television. Rifkinâs daughterâs enchantment with the video led to a phone call to Leach inviting her to put Barney on public television.

Barney & Friends made its debut on the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) in April 1992 and quickly became the #1 preschool show. Barney & Friends features Barneyâs friend Baby Bop, her big brother BJ, and a culturally diverse cast of children who have fun learning about friendship, sharing, cooperation, respect for others, good manners, self-esteem, and good health and safety habits. At the conclusion of each episode, Barney reviews and summarizes the episodeâs educational concepts. According to Educational Research & Development Director, May Ann Dudko, Ph.D., âEach Barney episode emphasizes language and cognitive development, physical activity and social interaction.â Dudko adds, âInteresting, meaningful, and relevant topics are selected to present educational concepts appropriate for, and eagerly embraced by, the target group of children ages two to five.â The educational value of Barney & Friends has been documented by a Yale study that revealed as many as 150 teaching moments per episode. The Yale study concluded by describing Barney & Friends as, ânearly a model of what a preschool program should be.â

Barney & Friends is produced and owned by Lyric Studios, a U.S. based entertainment company that distributes television shows, movies, home videos, DVDs, CDs, cassettes, book and toys. On February 9, 2001, Lyrick Studios announced that it was merging with HIT Entertainment, one of the global leaders in childrenâs entertainment, based in the United Kingdom.

Interesting Barney Facts:
Today Barney & Friends is televised in over 100 countries and remains one of the top-rated shows for preschoolers.
The Barney Fan Club was launched in 1989, is international, and has a membership of over 1 million.
Lyrick has made approximately 50 consumer videos of Barney and more than 60 million Barney videos have been sold in North America.
Barney first audio release, âBarneyâs Favorites: Volume 1â is now triple platinum, and has remained on top of childrenâs overall charts since its release in 1993.
The first Barney books were published in 1993, with over a hundred million copies sold worldwide.
The Barney Magazine was launched in 1994.
Barney was rated the #1 Kidsâ Artist according to Billboard Magazine in 1996, 1997 and 1998.
A touring theatrical stage, âBarneyâs Big Surpriseâ, was seen by almost two million fans during 1996-1998, and was named the âBest Family Touring Show of the Yearâ in 1997 by Performance magazine.
The first Barney feature film, âBarneyâs Great Adventureâ, was released in 1998.
Barneyâs second stage show, âBarneyâs musical Castleâ, made its debut in 1999 and will be seen by a projected two million fans in 80 cities over two years.

i want to buy my 2 year daughter a dog will he/she fit in with our life style.?

Q. I want to buy my 2 year daughter (who loves dog) a brishon frise. they are rated 1 of the top family dog but do you think it will fit into my schedule at this time?
I am a 28 year old mother w/partner have a 2 year daughter and 5 year son and we also work full time.Just started a new job today and just bought a house 11/05/09. My daughter is just about potty trained so thats gonna help. My sitter will allow dog to come with my daughter but only up untill July which my daughter will start school.
1) do you think she is to young for a dog or is it a good age?
2)do you think that i will have the time and patients for a dog at this time?

This is a $450-500 dog and it available 12/22/09 i need answers asap!

i thank you all in advanced for your time in answering my question i am sooo confused on this one.

Answer
1. 2years is still abit young for a small breed dog. Although older child friendly, bichon don't do well with toddlers.

2. THe price seems incrediable cheap for a PUREBRED dog, i expect from a backyard breeder which will lead to health and temperment issues, which is NOT something you want to deal with with a 2year old. I expect from a reptuable breeder show bred but pet quality pup at least 800, for show quality pup at least 1000, from an animal shelter under $400

3. Pups cannot be left alone anymore then 2hours, so how the heck when you work full time be able to socialise a small breed dog? and housetrain it.

4. i wait until the children are 7 at least. Really how the heck is 2year old going to be able to help-they can't feed the dog, CAN'T train it, the only thing i see a toddler doing is TEASING it, which bichon frises cannot STAND.

Full time and pups do NOT go together well. YOU will be in over your head trying to raise a pup on your schedual. Honestly you find it too much, and the pup will become another surrender toll on the overcrowed shelters

Temperament:
The Bichon is a charming little companion dog that is lively, playful and affectionate. This dog breed barks very little and is easy to live with. The Bichon adapts well to families and children but doesnât like the rough handling that small children display towards pets. Bichons are easy to train for obedience and to do tricks although they are like all toy breeds and are resistant to housebreaking. They are social dogs and get along well with strangers and other pets but will make good watch dogs. Bichons do well with first time dog owners.

Bichon Frise puppies are NOT suited to small children, no matter how well-meaning the child. Children cannot help being clumsy, and that a child meant well is little solace to a Bichon Frise puppy who has been accidentally stepped on, sat on, rolled on, squeezed, or dropped onto the patio. Even Bichon Frise adults may feel overwhelmed by the loud voices and quick movements that children can't help making -- and stress and shyness (even defensive biting) may be the result.

hat Cute Puppy Requires Work

Watching a puppy grow can be a rewarding experience, and is often compared to the time requirements of raising a human baby. And just like a baby, you won't discover the dogs' true personality until it is nearing adulthood.

Young puppies require large amounts of time; needing to be fed 3-4 times a day, kept in a confined area indoors and let out every few hours to eliminate. The first few weeks can be filled with sleepless nights as the confused puppy seeks comfort and food. A puppy's growth phase requires much supervision and training. Housetraining is accomplished only after accidents. Teething ("chewing") lasts the first six-eight months. And puppies don't become mature adults until they are two years old, meaning they act like teenage dogs for a year or more.

If everyone in your home is gone for eight hours a day, your puppy probably won't get the attention he needs to meet your expectations. If you are gone much longer than eight hours a day, even adult dogs have high attention needs and may not be a good choice for your current lifestyle.

Adult Dogs Have Many Advantages

Most dogs given to shelters are young adolescents. They don't usually have behavior problems, they were just victims of well-meaning owners who didn't have the time, knowledge or patience for the needs of a dog.

While many shelter dogs could use a little more training, they usually bond quickly with new owners, and have fewer needs than a young puppy.

*

Many shelter dogs are already housetrained, though they often need some reminders and a few days of adjustment time after their stay at a shelter kennel. Even if they were sadly kept outdoors only, adult dogs often only need a day or two to learn that they live inside, but eliminate outside.
*
Many shelter dogs have already lived with children. People often assume that they should start with a puppy if they have children. Puppies have sharp baby teeth and can play too roughly with young children. There are many adult dogs in the shelter that are recommended for households with children. And, teaching children about the moral benefits of saving the life of a homeless adult pet is a lesson that will never be forgotten.
*

Adult dogs are easier to train than young puppies because they have longer attention spans. And many shelter dogs already know some basic commands taught in their first home or by shelter volunteers.
*

Dogs are generally more predictable. A dog isn't full-grown until it's a year old, so when adopting an adult dog you already know it's full size, health and real personality.
*

Dogs mature out of their "teenage phase" until they are often two years old. Adopting an older pet means that someone else already had his or her shoes chewed and you get the benefit of a dog who is more mellow and allows you to finish the entire newspaper.
*

Don't discount a dog that is approaching a senior age. Even an eight-year-old dog has the likelihood of many more good years to give you. A senior dog often offers the sweetest rewards. To learn more about adopting a senior dog, we recommend visiting the Senior Dog's Project (http://www.srdogs.com/).
*

You are taking a stand against the pet overpopulation crisis and saving an animal that will bond quickly with you, and shower you with gratitude and unconditional love.

All dogs are pack animals and have high needs for regular companionship and attention inside the home with their humans. If you are gone much longer than eight or nine hours a day, a dog may not be an appropriate pet for your busy lifestyle.

i need a comedic script about a little kid playing with army toys and talking about the army?

soilderboy

sorry this is so specific

Answer
Kid has 2 toy army men in his hands and in a lower voice says with the staff sergeant "lets invade", then with the private in his other hand says "are you sure, remember what happened last time" then the kid looks down and instead of the earth, he's sitting on a rock, the only remaining piece of the earth floating in space

How Many Toys Does Your Child Have?

Lucy Harpe

My four year old stepson met a little boy at the park, they were playing well together so me and his mom decided to get them together for a playdate. They came over to our house and we went into my stepsons room to play with his toys, she walks in the room, looks at his toys, and says "where do you keep all of his toys?", I told her those are all of his toys, she looked surprised and said "Thats it?", I asked what she meant, she said "nothing, its just my son has so many toys I dont even know where to put them, and these toys are like, nothing compared to that", I have to say I was a bit offended, the way she said it made it sound like she thought we were depriving him or something. He doesn't have a ton of toys, but he has enough in our opinion, we dont like to overgift him because we dont think he really needs a thousand toys, hes perfectly happy with the ones he has and he treasures them and plays with each of them. He has-
- Four stuffed animals, his favorite teddy bear, a lion, an elephant, and a dog
- a shoebox of legos
- a play mobile pirate set
- Two trucks, a hess truck and a bulldozer
- Two cars and 5 hotwheel cars plus a track
- A toy boat
- some army men
- Blocks
- A play doctor kit
- A tricycle and a bike with training wheels
- A wooden rocking horse and a stick horse
- some play doh and other art supplies
- 5 action figures
- A few costumes
- 5 board games

He also has some outdoor things, like a sled and one of those ride in cars that you push with your feet. How many toys do your kids have? What are they? Would you be offended if someone said that to you? I know he has enough, hes never bored and has a great imagination, his favorite toy is a simple cardboard box.

Answer
My kids have too many toys. Most of the toys they have are simple toys. But... like a toy box full of stuffed animals. At least 10 baby dolls, and 6 tiny baby dolls (plus bottles, dresses, outfits, blankets, stroller, shopping cart with food, beds, etc.) Raggedy Ann and Andy, Max and Ruby, Mickey and Minnie, Snoopy and Woodstock... I mean, if I find a toy that goes with a book or a movie I like to get it so that she can play it out on her own. She has a toy-story book box thing with all the characters in it, they don't have joints just figures, but she loves that. Playmobil take-along doll house, Playmobil take-along Holiday House (Santa's House.) About 7 playmobil add-ons to give more moms, dads, babies, kids, etc. A ride-on for her and for her brother. Several top-type things, phones, things with dials and latches, things to open and figure out. A bag of musical instruments (glockenspiel, drums, harmonicas, penny whistles, jingle-bells, maracas, tamborines, etc.) Stacking rings. A lot of puppets. A lot of CARS toys, and two little ramp/parking garage type stuff. Oh, and a rocking lion who roars.

She just picked out 15 things to give away though (thank heavens.) They're not super small things either, one's a big giraffe and another is a moose. But more than that, it's a beginning.

Worse than the toys are the books. Her bookshelf will not hold any more books at this point. We either need another bookshelf (which is what I'm leaning towards since I don't want to get rid of books her brother is barely growing into...) or give away books. Coloring books, crayons markers, etc, count as books, and can't fit in the shelves, they have to live on the top.

Add: I wouldn't be that offended. I'd just shrug it off. Oh, and we have put a cap on things. If she wants more toys, more dolls, more things, then she's got to get rid of the ones she doesn't play with. I would not put any in storage. No, she's got to get rid of what she's got so she can get more if that's what she want. For instance, she loves XhuXhu pets right now, I keep finding them on sale. She wants a few Xhu-xhu playsets, but I have told her she can't until she's got room in her room to keep them. So she's giving toys away until I say she's given away enough that she can get something again. It's made a big impression to be told that I don't care if she has the money she's saved, I don't care if she is being good, too bad, so sad, she doesn't have room in her room, she's got to give something away.

Note, I've had parents tell me that my kids are going to be technologically disadvantaged because we don't have a lot of technology toys. I pointed out that the biggest techno geeks out there were playing with blocks and legos and stuff... they're doing fine with technology. So will my kids. I find it slightly more offensive when someone says "you're not doing right by them by not giving them technological toys."

moms and dads kids birthday question?

Horse Up

if you have a kid coming home with bad behavior, like not doing work, etc.... what do you do if her/his birthday is coming up? we have tried everything as far as discipline and still no improvement. she just doesn't wanna do her work. her birthday is next week and i dont think she should be rewarded with lots of toys and gifts. what would you do? she just doesn't listen and doesn't take us serious whats-so-ever. she is 10

Answer
Tell her in these words "You will not be having a birthday party! And I mean that! You better start behaving! You need to be more responsible! Take away her TV, computer, cell phone, and any electronics, or things that she is in love with, like her toys or games. Tell her to do her homework, do her chores, and go to bed! Tell her if she starts improving in her behavior and her grades get better, that she can have her electronics back, and she will have a birthday party. Who cares if the party is a little late, its still a party! If this doesn't work, don't give her electronics back, and don't give her a party! Make sure she doesn't have any friends over, or goes to a friends house. Make sure every single night she comes home, does her homework, and chores, and goes to bed by 8:30 until she starts behaving and starts getting better grades! Soon, she will get annoyed, and will want her stuff back, so she will be really good. Good Luck :)

Question about toddler stages?

Amy

So I am wanting to move my toddler 22 month old baby girl from her crib to her big girl bed. The only thing I am afraid of is that she may roll of in the night. It is a trundle bed and is kinda high off the ground but it has been in her fathers family for years and I want her to use it. I have heard of net or gate type things you clip on to the end of a bed to block the child from falling out but I have no clue as to where to find them, what they are called, or how pricey they are. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

Answer
They are called bed rails. Most stores have them. You can get them for one side of the bed or both. They can be mesh, metal or wood. I prefer the mesh for toddlers so they don't bang their head on a hard surface while sleeping. Target, walmart and Toys R Us has them at reasonable prices.

what sort of gift can one give to 1 year old girl?

mee

my cousin daughter would turn 1 next week , and she is throwing big party on her birthday can u tell me what sort of things can u give one year old

i would prefer something not to costly , financially i am not to good these days

Answer
one year old about anything in the baby toddler. Go to walmart look at the the toys for babies toddlers. Buy her something that says 12-18 months. Also ask the mom what she plays with? I mean my grandson loves plastic forks. he carries them around. Hes 17 months old. That would make his day. So each child likes differant. But if you buy something at walmart the mom can take it back. also you could get her a gift card for a place to eat like mcdonalds if they let her eat there. buy her a barbie to put up.

How did the band 98 degrees get their name?

BLAH!

Perhaps a better question is "Why did they choose the name 98 degrees"?

Answer
Weeeeeell, 98 degrees is the standard body temperature...

EDIT: That is a good question. If anything, they should be 490 degrees, since there are five guys.

Why is 98 degree weather so unbearable when its our normal temperature?

scarlet be

Answer
98.6 degrees is only your "core" temperature. Your skin is going to be much cooler than that (stick a thermometer on your arm and prove it to yourself!), which is why 98 degrees feels hot. Humidity will also play a factor.

puppies!!!!!!!!!!!?

h1257

yay my dog had puppies on thurs night and my other dog had puppies march 9th.
i already have half of them sold and i am i responsible breeder and i know when their preg. they are daschund and the first one had 4 and the second one had 6 on the first 4 she had 1 girl and 3 boys on the 2 litter she had 1 girl and 5 boys.
i did not call this breeding a mistake where did you even get that.
well rualass im not the only one who braggs about dogs so also yeah i did have checks done so i dont want you to come on any of my topics
these are full size ones but i do have a mini girl named lady (she has the stinkies breath-lol)

Answer
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! for the puppies, they must be adorable. I totally understand how you feel, selling your puppies so soon. However, puppies being sold that young can die, VERY FAST. They need their mom's nutrition (milk) and to be around their mom in a safe enviroment. The youngest I would ever buy a puppy is 8 weeks. They cant wean until 5 or 6, and before you bred your dogs, you should have thought about this. I am NOT trying to be rude in ANY way. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not sell your puppies before 8 weeks, because they can end up retarded and or with behavior issues.
By the way, to all you people who are being rude:
This woman might not know everything about puppies, so you should leave your rude comments to yourself and help her understand the issue in a better way, and give her the benefit of the doubt.

what do puppies need for shots?

RHONDA

what type of shots do puppies need

Answer
Puppies need a series of vaccinations from 6 weeks old every 2-4 weeks till they are 16 weeks old, and the type of vaccinations needed varies depending on the dogs age and the exposure likelihood to different diseases. It is best to take the puppy to the vet for the first time right after you get it for an exam. The vet will make sure there aren't any heart murmurs or hernias or parasitism problems, the ears and eyes and lymph nodes and skeletal structures and skin and breathing are all right and that the pup is healthy. He will also check the stool for parasites and treat any intestinal parasites. If the pup is healthy, he will start with the first puppy shot. He will then tell you the best interval between vaccinations for your puppy, which vaccinations he recommends, and place the pup on heartworm preventative and start your flea control (if desired). He will also give you information on pet insurance, microchipping, feeding schedules, answer any training questions you may have, and advice you on breed health problems.
In some states you can purchase some vaccinations from the farmer's co-op and give them yourself, but you will not get accurate information from the co-op, the breeder, or any other source about administration except from your vet, so you are taking some chances by trying to save money doing this. I have seen a number of owner-vaccinated pets that have come down with the diseases they were trying to prevent because the owner did not give the vaccines correctly or because the co-op stored the vaccines incorrectly before they were sold. Buyer beware!

An easy unique and cheap instrument?

Indiana

I wanna play a instrument.......... 1 yr of guitar!
Why are ppl now organising dates on YA? OMG this place has sunk to a new low! High school musical sucks!

Answer
You could try to find a cheap kids electronic musical instrument and circuit bend it (toy guitar, toy keyboard, etc).

Harmonica, Kazoo, and Ocarina are all good suggestions. I would like to throw in Slide Whistle (Tin Whistle?) and the Recorder in there... I've found cheap recorders for only a dollar or two, for instance.

I'd love to make myself an electric violin, but unfortunately that's a little in the future. It's not a difficult build, I think, but it may be more than something you want to tackle.

I remember a while back I answered a couple of questions about making your own instrument for a science class or something.... I'm trying to remember some of my answers...

I think one of them was making your own PVC trombone. An easier proejct would be a PVC didgeroo (sp? I never remember how...). Related ideas could be a trumpet, that one instrument Squidworth plays (I have a kid, alright?), or a series of different lengthed tubes as tuned drums.

I've found plans for making something called a tongue drum or slit drum. My sweetie's aunt gave us one, and it took me forever to figure out what it was. It's cool... hit a wooden box and make a tone. Kind've like a xylophone, I guess.

An instrument I'm very keen on making is a kalimba, or hand piano. I'd really like to make one that can attach to my guitar, but that will take me a while.... I'd even like to put a contact pickup on it so I can blend the sound with my pickups, or even run two separate sounds out of my guitar, so the pickups can give me that distorted tone that I like, but the contact pickup can be for that floaty, ambient stuff that I also like. =)

If you're handy with electronics (unfortunately not everyone is) you can make a simple musical instrument out of some various electronic components. The first one I found is called a "transistor organ", but since I can't figure out what to replace that transistor with, there's also one made with a 555 timer chip. Um, google "555 organ" I think. All parts should be available at your local Radio Shack or easily ordered from any electronics part company (Mouser, Digikeys, etc).

Making your own percussion instruments is easy and fun... anything you can put in a bottle or can to make a noise, really. If you can hit it and make a noise, it can be part of a percussion kit!

May I suggest walking through your local home improvement store's aisles and see if anything pops out at you as something that could make a sound? The plumbing aisle is a great place to be - pipes, parts, tools, PVC, etc etc.

Don't forget your local thrift stores, too. You never know when something might pop up that could work just perfectly (or be taken apart or slightly destroyed *to* work perfectly) at a great bargain.

Good luck!

Saul

Babysitting a 6 year old girl?

Char

So it is my first time babysitting and I am babysitting a little 6 year old girl. All I know about her is that she is talkative. What are some games you think we could play? Also if she can't sleep what should I do? I just need advice!

Answer
Well, ALL six-year-olds are talkative, so that is normal. She will probably be a little shy at first, don't take it personal. For fun? Try hide-and-seek, or a board game, or watch a movie together.

Ask her mother what her normal bedtime routine is and try to get her to bed as close to that as possible. Let her take a warm bubble bath, that will help her relax. Read her a story. If she has a favorite toy she normally sleeps with make sure she has it. Make sure her night-light is on.

What can I do about my 6 year old son that wants to play with girl toys?

elaine

My 6 year old son has a room full of cars, superhero action figures, video games, etc., but he would choose to play with a doll or a girly looking stuffed animal over all of his boy toys. Most of my friends have girls so he has grown up playing with more girls than boys. Now that he is in a school setting, I thought he would have the opportunity to be exposed to more boys, but he still chooses to play with girls. When he gets to pick out a toy at the store, I have to steer him away from the girly action figures because those are his first choice. He has recently started talking about how pretty different girl dolls are so I am hoping he is just girl crazy?? Please help!

Answer
Well, I can see why your torn.

On one hand...He's just a kid. So why not let him play with whatever he wants?

On the other...If he says he likes to play with barbies ... or dolls at school he is likely to be teased for it. And theres always the underlying thought he might end up gay. Not that its completly bad (before I get shunned for saying it)..but its true, most parents don't want their children to be gay, even if they except it later.

If it were me, I would sit down with him and ask him why he likes the girl toys. And I would label them. If its pink, and girly call it a girl toy. Then if he still feels comfortable playing with them, and can say I like to play with girl toys and I don't care what other people think. Then...support him. Its his life.

why is this boy so immature?

Jess

he is 15,acts like a little kid has heaps of toys in his room and plays with them toys like teddy n the baby toys
why is this ?

Answer
LOL! That isn't immature. He's just a kid and 15 is still a kid.

Sounds like your brother or something. Who cares if he plays with toys? I mean if the dude wants to play with toys, then let him play with his toys. Why should he act all serious and stuff and throw out his toys just because big, old sister says it's immature? Heck, even an adult at age 30+ sometimes still plays with toys. So it's no big deal.

How many toys are too many?

HappyMom

I look at our house, and it is a poor layout, I go to the kids toy area and we have so many toys in a place that just doesnt have room. We want legos and doll houses and trains but no room.

When is it okay to just throw all of them out? I dont mean every single one, I dont want them without toys between birthdays and christmas.
We want to narrow it down, but we cant afford to replace with new toys, so i am worried that i am going to take away too much of their variety? we have
1 boy age 8
1 girl age 6
1 boy age 5
1 girl age 3
legos, matchbox cars, barbie and dora doll houses and pieces,

My question i guess, is can they still have enough fun with just a handfull of toys? or should i keep what they have until the next gift-recieving event??

I worry because I see all that their classmates have and feel bad as it is because we cannot afford new toys.. that is why i keep all the other toys so long
not planned for bgbg, i had boy girl girl, but my stepson is aged between the 2 girls :) so it worked out great:)
dont like .. thats where the problem is, they play with most all of them, we just dont have room for them and dont really have room for toys they get at gift-givings

Answer
I have 3 boys and man oh man do we have alot of toys! Every 4 months or so, we all go to the (overflowing) toybox, and pick out 4 toys each that they don't play with anymore and bring em to Goodwill, and throw away any broken ones, just let them know their toys are going to kids who can't afford new toys, it get rid of some of it!
PS Did you have your kids Boygirlboygirl on purpose?Thats cool!

How tall is Ray William Johnson?

DropOfScye

He always says he's a midget, but how tall is he, exactly?

Answer
Ray William Johnson, the Youtube sensation? Well, I have also heard many rumors that he is very short and a ''midget''. I also remember when ''Meekakitty'' said in one of his videos that he was 3ft tall which of course, is a lie.

In my opinion, I think he is about 5'2.

BEST "find" for your kids Christmas?

momof3

What is the most creative present you are giving to your kids for Christmas....

Something they will actually use and enjoy....

I have a 6 5 and 3 year olds...

Answer
What do they enjoy? I have 3 boys and the 2 oldest told us to give away all their toys except the cars and tracks. So for Christmas we are getting my 9 month old clothes, bath toys, and a ball pit. My 4 year old was so easy we are getting him a Slurpee maker, a big tower for marbles, and tons of Monster Trucks. My 10 year old was hard to shop for but he has been into spy gadgets and things and I really never seen (or looked) anything like that. When we went shopping for them we saw spy gear and bought him up a whole bunch of different spy sets.

Does anyone know where to find decently cheap spy gear either for kids or adults?

Q. Anyone? Don't worry I am using it for legal purposes. A friend and I like to do stuff like this. It's more for securing our rooms and or house. Sometimes...SOMETIMES to spy on our siblings. =D

Kids Sharing their "Big" Christmas gift?

Lyndsey

My son really wants a "ride-on" toy for Christmas, but he's 6. My little girl wants a Barbie jeep, but she's 4, so that's totally doable. My problem is that the one's they make for his age range (so he'll actually get some use out of it) are around 500 dollars. I only budget 1000 for Christmas total- all 4 kids, and my husband too. It's unreasonable for me to spend half of my budget on one present for one child. I really don't want him to be disappointed, so should I get the one that he can ride (which is a double seater), and gift it to both him and his sister (although she will not get the "barbie" logo) or should I buy 2 cheaper (fisher price) ride-on toys, that he won't get very much use out of as he'll be 7 in April... I don't think my daughter will be overly disappointed- she's so easy to please in general, but it seems a little wrong to do that... Any experience with gifting something to more than one child? or advice on what I should do? experience with ride-on toys?
Thanks for all of the really great answers. While 1000 dollars may seem like a lot of money for Christmas to some, it is accurate for our family. Our children are not in the slightest materialistic, and I save all year to be able to give them a big, exciting Christmas. All year long, I tell them that we can't do this, or buy that, little stuff, because we save money for Christmas. So Christmas in our family, is not only a day to celebrate Christ and God's gift of eternal salvation to us,(we are Christian), but also a lesson in reaping the fruit of the seeds that you sow. Neither my husband nor I were raised in families that saved money, and we want our kids to know how, and Christmas makes it fun. Sorry if I misled anyone into thinking we were being frivolous with our Christmas budget.

Answer
i would definitely only get one, in whichever price range you decide is best

my kids share virtually all their christmas gifts, except personal things like clothes. under the tree the presents are labeled not "to john" or "to suzy" but: "to kids who like science" or "to kids who like to build" or "to kids who like playing outside", etc.

Is Hong Kong cheap like china?

Veeeeeeez

We are planning a shopping holiday in Hong Kong around early february. Is Hong Kong cheap like china? We are planning on buying mainly clothes, soft furnishings, kids toys etc. Also how much would a decent hotel cost like a 2-3star. staying there for 2 weeks. Is it easy to go to china from Hong Kong. Do we need visas, how much are they and can we get them from Hong Kong? How much is it to travel to China from Hong Kong, what transport options are there? Whats the weather like during February? In terms of shopping how does it compare to Singapore, Dubai, Thailand and USA?

Answer
Welcome to Hong Kong, the Pearl of the Orient! Its stunning Victoria Harbour and The Peak have just been rated as Asia's No.1 skyline by a Japanese TV Station. A CNN poll also confirmed that Hong Kong is a must-visit in Asia. The City are full of a wide array of options, both expensive and cheap. In Feb the temp is in the mid teens, day/night temperature difference is not big.

HK has rich culture and history with a perfect blend of the west and the east. Walk up the world's longest Escalator which begins from Central District and goes all the way up to the Mid-Levels. Along the Escalator you'll come across the early English settlement near Aberdeen Street, you'll also pass by Soho, South of Hollywood Rd which gives a very unique bar and restaurant street. Hollywood Rd is also the famous antique street where genuine Chinese antiques are sold.

From Causeway Bay - Central District - Tsimshatsui District - Mongkok District along the MTR (subway) route are where most of the fascinating shoppings, restaurants, vibrant night life and gorgeous harbour view lies.

If you like green, sea and nature, and are not in a rush in going to places visiting one of the outlying islands ie the Silvermine Bay of Lantau Island is quite relax and gives a completely different impression of Hong Kong than the one often see in pictures. Simply catch a ferry from the Central Pier right outside IFC Building. The ferry trip takes about 30 minutes, a very relaxed ride in the midst of a hustling bustling city.

Another beautiful scenic area is Sai Kung District, there's a Seafood Street where you can handpick life seafood, have the restaurant cook them any way you like and enjoy it in front of the sea. There're many beautiful mountain trails in Hong Kong, there's one that goes all the way down to Aberdeen from the Peak. It'll take more than an hour to walk down. In Aberdeen lies the Chinese boat restaurant "JUMBO" in the middle sea which is awesome for some dim sum delicacies.

HK is renowned as the world's shopping and dining paradise. You can eat like a billionaires, in the same token there're many affordable places with unbelievable prices. HK has the cheapest McDonald's prices on earth. A Cantonese wonton noodle soup is only around HK$15. A popular Chinese fast food chain all over the city, the De Coral Fast Food, with set meals under HK$30.

Buying brand names is popular in HK since the City boasts the only zero sales tax nor import tariffs in Asia, brand names are often 10% - 50% cheaper than anywhere else in the world. Street vendors or flea markets is another interesting shopping paradise, they have all sorts of products selling at knockoff prices, eg the Ladies Street, the evening Temple Street vendors in Kowloon side, Stanley Market in HK side etc. Small street shops in Mongkok and Causeway Bay Districts may give you surprises too. There're also many street vendors located in inner side streets of Central District, Wan Chai District, near Johnston Road and Causeway Bay District that sell genuine factory exports "left-overs" at around US$5 for a branded T-shirt. Most prices in HK are fixed, you may be able to bargain a few $ though in small shops and street vendors. You will hardly find any fakes or copies in HK as the law enforcement is rather strict.
Everywhere in Hong Kong is well connected by its efficient and timely public transportation system, the MTR, big and mini buses. Cost is from under US$1 - $2 per ride. It's easiest to travel by MTR which runs pass all the central shopping and business districts, then either connect to a bus or walk to your destination. Separate fares are charged for each ride. Star Ferry that crosses the Victoria Harbour, and the Island Tram that runs from the East (Shaukeiwan District) to the West (Kennedy Town) of the HK Island are only HK$2 per ride which is a must for tourists. If you like exploring on your own, simply follow the map, people on the streets always happy to offer directions. HK is one of the most foreigner-friendly cities on earth, plus lots of fun and excitement, visitors often find the place the most vibrant, exciting city that never sleeps, even when you get bored at 3 AM, you could go and have a drink in the bar or even have a delicious late snack. Convenience Stores are located in almost every corner of the main streets and are opened around the clock. The best of all, HK is extremely easy to get around being supported by affordable and well connected public transportation. Hongkongers are very responsive and efficient in their work that make shopping, dining or doing business a very wonderful experience. You'll also notice that the people will automatically stand by the side when walking up and down the stairs and escalators, not blocking people behind. Check www.discoverhongkong.com and have a wonderful stay!

Homemade or Creative Toys for 18 month old Toddler?

Rebekah

I care for my 18 month old niece regularly, and sometimes have her for overnight. I do not have many toys for her to play with and cannot afford to purchase any. My child is a teenager and her toys are long gone.

I need some ideas for "toys" that I can make from common household stuff, or stuff that can be "re-purposed" as toys.

Thanks!

Answer
You can make little shakers (kids love making noise!) by filling any small container (that has a lid) with lentils, rice, or pebbles. Just make sure to secure the lid tightly and always supervise in case she manages to get it open.

Or what about hand puppets from old socks?

how do you think this person made this homemade toys, and also please give me by step by step tips for budgies

Q. http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii121/tstmard/PHOT0022.jpg
i want to make it
and please tell me it buy step by step
make it easy im 11 :]

Answer
Quite simple idea & a good one at that~ especially for budgies. All you will need is some pure cotton rope (or you can use a sisal), small beads variety to thread(can be found at any craft store, or Michaels) & either popsicle sticks or if you are handy, you can use 1X2 pine wood, the coloring is simply food coloring & safe for your budgie.( I choose not to use coloring on any of my avian toys because my birds are all white, when the coloring gets wet, it stains alot of things) And the little bell should be ONLY stainless if you would like it to last & be safe for your bird(stay away from ZINC & lead) Also the tiny piece of metal in the bell should be removed & you can leave without or use a bead instead it will ring just the same( the tiny metals are junk, but also dangerous to many birds, if swallowed etc). This idea is quite easy IF you view the picture closely...Simply thread the beads on the cotton or sisal which will be multiple strands which come fom one area atop which is knotted with probably a stainless(or nickel) ring needed for hanging. Just knot the strands where beads stop/end...the cotton or sisal rope is thread thru a small hole of each wood slat carefully, then knot rope again & continue threading beads till rope length is full, then knot the ends leaving a very short tassle fray...always watch that toys do not become a danger to birds...always check for loose metals or frayed ropes/materials that a bird can get the talons caught in or wing, & such. Always view birds as if a young baby or toddler, doing so will keep them safe~
Have fun making little things for your feathered one~ Takecare~
Online there are many bird sites that offer toy making ideas...Wonderful neat things with everyday household items & baby toys, buliding blocks, leggo's ect.. pure pine wood or pvc are good items always, bird tend to chew~
Take care~

What is the best interactive toy for a 3 year old?

piene74

My son is turning three pretty soon.... We wanna get him a v tech interactiv game, so he can plug it to the tv, but I am not sure, it vtech is for his age.....
Can somebody tell me, what interactive toys would be great for his age group?

Answer
Don't be fooled into wasting your money on a heavily advertised "learning" game. Go to target.com and see what they recommend for a 3 year old ... and skip over any computer junk. A 3 year old needs building blocks, and other things that he can hold and touch and learn from .. and a lot of hugs and love. Good Luck ! :)

Toys for 3 month year old twin boys?

Amber C

My twin boys are almost 3 months and are becoming more active. Their nursery is a jungle theme so they love looking at the animals and patterns in their crib. They also enjoy looking at their mobile. I want to get them some toys. I got a play mat and they enjoy that (they are beginning to like it more and more everyday...its amazing!) I wanted to know what else I can get for them. Like I said they like looking at stuff, but I want something more interactive also, and something that will keep their attention for awhile, so I can get a little break.

Thanks

Answer
I'll bet you need a little break!... My son became INSATIABLY curious at this age and got bored very easily. We put him in a bouncinette (kind of bouncing bed?) with a frame placed around it and noisy, colourful stuff hung from it, within his reach. He rocked, kicked, grabbed and rattled like mad!

Here's a picture of a bouncinette: http://www.babiesgalore.com.au/view_product_new.php?productid=285&returnUrl2=%2Fshow_product_search.php%3Fsearchtype%3Dcategory%26categoryid%3D40

The KEY thing is the frame, as it gives the baby access to the toy, but when he/she drops it, it simple hangs within reach so it can be grabbed again. Toys that are not attached to anything cause frustration as the baby inevitably drops them and then can't get them back. The other thing about the frame was that it was made of plastic-covered metal with a bit of give in it, so when my son pulled on the toys, the frame bent, it didn't break.

I searched high and low for a link to a similar frame but couldn't find one, sorry.

By the way, babies and toddlers DON'T need expensive, elbaorate toys: they get the most joy out of objects of various shapes that they can explore with their hands and their mouths, and bang together making a frightful din!

My son, as soon as he could crawl, made his way each morning to the kitchen cupboards and pulled out everything. He loved plastic jar lids [not too small of course], pot lids, and any old thing that was small and light enough for him to grab.

He wasn't remotely interested in teddy bears or any of those cute things that adults really like.

How do you know when the Vtec kicks in?

Julian How

Honda Accord Type R 98 model... detailed answers please. I have no idea what a Vtec is/does. How you get it to "kick in" would be nice to know for i always thought it happened once i turned the key. Should be a great new experience this Vtec feeling.

Answer
Vtec stands for "Variable valve Timing and Electronic lift Control". It achieves this by using a two-stage cam profile. The lower profile is for economy and regular driving while the higher profile "kicks in" at a certain RPM range for increased power. By doing this, the Vtec engine is effectively able to provide both economy and power from a single engine design.

The high-profile stage usually triggers at 5500 to 6500 RPM. You will usually feel a surge in engine power when this happens. The feeling is normally more pronounced at coastal altitudes than inland due to the higher air-pressure.

when does vtec kick in?

Kevin S

hi.. i have a 1996 acura integra gsr... i want to know when the vtec kicks in.. i know it kicks around 5200 to 5700 rpms from what i heard.. but not sure... my brother had the same car but 1999... he had a light on the cluster that said vtec when it kicked in... im pretty sure is a wire from the computer or engine that he hooked up to the dashboard to alert him when vtec kicked in.. my question is how do i know which wire to use... alll i need is a light to show me when vtec kicks in... any sites i could go to.. please help... thanks

Where can I buy toy soldiers online?

Tom Miskel

What is the best online store to buy toy soldiers from? I am a collector and quite old so I'm not really too sure where to look. I like collecting plastic toy soldiers, mainly the smaller 1:72 scale soldiers like Airfix, Hat, and Zvezda toy soldiers. I already use Ebay for 2nd hand figures but I am looking for cheap new boxed sets.

Answer
You can buy any toy soldiers set available online at ArmyToySoldiers.com. They source all available products online from all manufacturers and toy outlets and offer the cheapest prices for each toy. Whats more they allow you to purchase from multiple online stores in one go without leaving their website so it saves you a lot of time searching and a lot of money too. Win win :)

whats up with kid rock? tours? new album?

mike u

nothing on his website.

Answer
Kid Rock today
Kid Rock and Twisted Brown Trucker (see below) were to release a live DVD of their performance at the Palace of Auburn Hills, Michigan on May 12/May 13, 2006 by the end of 2006, which never materialized.

A new studio album from Kid Rock is in the works and is set for release in September 2007,according to mtv.com.In an interview with Real Detroit Weekly in 2006, Rock said he is attempting to create "a timeless rock-n-roll record". Rock also said the record will be produced by Rick Rubin as well as Rob Cavallo, and will feature the J. Geils Band's Peter Wolf; the album has been rumored to have a tribute song to New Orleans from the outcome of Hurricane Katrina with Fats Domino on vocals as well as a guest spot from the Root's Questlove. Kid Rock stated to billboard.com that the album will be full of "bangers" and he will do a full-out media blitz (which he has never done). DJ Paradime confirmed a tracked called "Guilty" from the upcoming album.

Rappers Beanie Siegel[1], MURS[2], Trick Trick, and DMC have all expressed interest with working with Bob on their 2007 forthcoming albums.

Legendary rap pioneer Reverend Run has confirmed an album with Kid Rock called "Running With The Kid" a play off of Eric Clapton and BB King "Riding With The King".The release date is unknown but Run says they are going to work on it by the end of April 2007.

Is it true that kid rock?

fixit

Is it true that kid rock is Hank Jrs. son?

Answer
NO!! kid rocks parents are from Detroit. Hank Jr has a son who has real talent his name is Shelton Williams (hank 3)...and this is what he has to say in one of his songs
"just so you know so its set in stone, kid rock don't come from where i come from, its true he's a yank, he ain't no son of hank, and if you thought so well g.d. you're effing dumb"

interview w/ hank 3:
Later on your new record, you take a pretty good shot at Kid Rock.
Yeah, well, thatâs been going for a while, and he brought that upon himself, man.

So youâve had a run-in with him?
Um ⦠Iâve met him, back when he hit with that big song, and he came in, like, âYou know, Iâm the next Elvis.â Iâm like, âWhatever, dude â the Beastie Boys have been around a lot longer than you have.â I first immediately saw that OK, this guyâs an asshole, and I can see why him and my dad get along pretty good. And then we came back through Detroit, and he kept trying to come on the bus â you know, him and Pam [Anderson], and all that shit â and I said, âTell that motherfucker I got nothing to say to him,â and then he finally gets his way back in there and tells me how I need to be treating my father (Hank Williams, Jr., who Kid Rock has collaborated with), and Iâm like, âAll right, you just crossed the line motherfucker.â And I donât know how many times I have to say it: âNo, heâs not my fucking brother. Heâs a goddamn Yankee from fuckinâ up in Detroit, and his dad runs Cadillac dealerships.â Heâs got no blood relation to us at all.

christmas toys for my kids?

Jhoanne

I am going to get the toys for my kids. since we are going to a roughttime we are going to get free from toys for tots. Can i go alone there *(they already have my info). or do i need to take my children. they are 12,9.7,11 years old. I don't want them to fell bad if they are getting free staff.

Answer
I don't think your kids need to go with you. They should have the information on all your children and have some things put aside for them already.

I don't see a reason for the kids to have to come. It might be better for them not to because like you said they may feel embarrassed, and it will ruin the surprise.

You shouldn't feel embarrassed lots of people are having a hard time this Christmas. I wish you the best for the new year and happy holidays.

What are some of your favorite accents?

meee

I have an...American accent? I suppose. Uhh, it's not Southern, I live in Northern U.S.

For those of you not from the U.S. do we even have an accent? Haha.

What are your favorite accents?

Mine is Italian, and British. (When it's not the snobby-sounding British accent, which it rarely sounds snobby)

Answer
i like light french accents, the french language is most lovely.

british and australian accents are nice, some are fancy.

i have a thing for irish and scottish accents . . . lol. they are SO attractive! xd

i find chinese accents funny for some reason . . . haha. im chinese but born in america, people say i have a valley girl accent. haha.

What do you think of british accents?

DizzeeBee

For my group's IB Theory of Knowledge presentation, we are going to look at the different accents across the UK and how they affect our perceptions of people, whether they are related to class (or appear to be), how accents differ from dialects, how british accents are perceived internationally, what implications having a certain accent has etc.

Survey-

Where are you from?
How many british accents can you think of? Name them.
Where do you think your knowledge of these accents comes from?
Can you think of stereotypes of this accent?
Do you think these stereotypes are accurate?
Anything else you'd like to add?

Answer
Cambridgeshire, England, but I live in the North now.

Geordie, Liverpudlian, Brummie, Cockney, Scouse, Scottish, Northern Irish, Welsh..

By asking people; "So where are you from?"
There are so many different British accents.

I try not to apply stereotypes to accents, because I know what it feels like. Everyone where I live thinks I "talk posh" since I spent most of my childhood in Cambridge (that's where I picked up mine). "Posh" leads to "snobby", it's not a nice stereotype!

Kids Night Club?

Princess

I want to start a kids night cub but i'm not really sure how. First of all it wouldn't be like an adult night club it would be more secure and more kid-friendly. There would be a certain age limit like you can't be younger than 10 or 9 unless your with a responsible simbling and you can't be over like 16 or something. And I don't know where I should hold it and I lve in Berwick PA so I want to have it there. And the bad part about it is I'm only 12. And I really want to start it but I don't know who to. Like if you bring a bag in it would have to be checked for alcohal before coming in just in case. And anjother thing I might do if I start this thing is you can't bring in any outside drinks because of again alcohol reasons. And there would be a lot of security for the parents to feel safe but there wouldn't be like 3 dozen parents swarming the place so then the kids wouldn't want to come. And we'd serve good food and drinks. And I'm thinking maybe even have a room where you can eat.
i left off at where kids can eat and kids who don't want to dance can hang out in there. So any tips or comments for me cause I don't know waht to do.
Jason W: There would be some security outside to for robbings and stuff. And I live in a pretty safe community though. And it would be near a store like Wal Mart or something for more biuissness and other financial reasons.

Also I could get other people to sponser and stuff and by people I mean companies.

Answer
the night club thing for kids seems a little effedup they need to be in a library so i dont have to worry about them robbing me when there leaving your night club

How good US KIDS golf clubs are?

Nokia

Can you compare them with name brands like Calloway?

Answer
They are good for the very beginner and younger kids while they are still growing so fast. I bought a set for my daughter when she was 7 or 8. Once they get older and are hitting the ball pretty good you will probably want to invest in a better set that really fits them and their swing. It has been my experience that you get what you pay for in golf clubs. Calloway's are for sure great clubs. I would not put US Kids clubs in the same category with Calloway. It all depends on the rate of improvement of the kid and what you are willing to spend.

What's a cool toy for a 2 year old little girls birthday?

missy800

I was thinking a play kitchen but now I don't know...what would you recommend fun?

Answer
A play kitchen is a good idea--make sure you get a cool "play food" set to go with it if that is what you purchase.

My daughter recently turned 2. She loves music, so family members bought her toddler instruments--a guitar, drum, keyboard and a set of bells. She loved all of them. Also, 2 year olds start to do role playing and imaginative play, so things like a set of plastic farm animals, dolls, a dollhouse, etc. may be a good idea. And also, stacking blocks is a favorite past time in our house. So colorful blocks might be a good idea too.

Good luck!

What are some good toys for a 2 year old girl?

Feed the m

Answer
Blocks, both wood and those mega blocks are GREAT for kids that age. My daughter LOVES her mega blocks that we got her when she was 1. She enjoys the wooden blocks too. She enjoys playing with cars and other vehicles (yes, she's a girl but I encourage her playing with cars too). She LOVES trains. She has a kitchen. She has a doll which recently lost an arm so I guess I'm going to have to get her another one. grr. She loves all kinds of toys, my apartment is a MESS of toys! This is a great age for pretend playing so hats, dress up shoes, dress up clothes are fun too.

personally i don't find it worth the money you pay to get in. the games aren't that great. even the interactive experiences like cyber space mountain are a big let down.

DISNEYWORLD... overwhelmed by planning.?

We are going in September with two children boy 10 and girl 8 and staying at Polynesian for a week. One of the days we would like to go to Sea World. I know we have a park hopper ticket. We watched the DVD that Disney sent and have a pretty good idea that we want to spend a little time at each place at least. Other than that.... I am nervous about what to do when? Like the day we get there... what should we attempt first? What are the do not miss meals? How do we get to SeaWorld? Do we have to buy tickets there or make reservations? I wish we just had a schedule to follow that made sense. ... and ... are there any tricks to save money... like on drinks? I'll take some insider advise please!!!!

The book "The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World" is wonderful to buy if this is your first trip.

If you've been before, you can just look at it in the bookstore and take notes from it.

There's a site called AllEars.net that has the most amazing information of all unofficial websites out there.

AllEars has schedules, rate & reviews, tips, ticket information, blogs, and a whole lot more! Just sit down and start exploring. It'll take a long time to do it though, fair warning.

At the Poly you'll be able to buy a refillable mug for hot or cold drinks, but they are NOT worth it if you aren't staying at the hotel for long (if you are only staying there to sleep, not using the pool much). They can ONLY be refilled at the Poly and nowhere else, there's no point taking them to the park with you.

If you are staying at one park all day long (or are planning on making a second stop at it during your trip) you can buy a refillable mug for THAT park, but only buy it if you are BIG drinkers. In most cases you can buy one water bottle at the beginning of your trip and keep refilling them, some people find Florida water to have a 'funny' taste, so they just buy a bunch of those single serving drink mix packets (crystal light, propel, kool-aid, lemonaid, etc)

None of the parks are half-a-day parks, they all deserve a full day, at least, to enjoy it fully! Do not listen to anyone that says different.

Animal Kingdom has a TON of things to do and is best to get there early as possible. If your kids are into thrill rides, get on Expedition Everest. If they aren't, get to Kilimanjaro Safari. Both of those rides get huge lines all day long and it's best to get them early as possible. Personally I'd go on the Safari first (animals are active in the early A.M and late P.M.), then run to get a Fast Pass for E.E. for later that day.

Epcot has a lot of kid friendly things to do, and alcohol for the adults! LOL You can get a passport at the World Show case and do a craft in each country. A fun thing to do is have someone from that country write "hello" and your child's name in their language in their autograph book. Innoventions East and West are always pretty fun, but it depends on what interest your kids have in video games and futuristic items I suppose. There's a really cool thing called "Club Cool" where you can try a ton of different Coke-a-cola products from around the world for the best price, FREE!! Test Track and Sorin are totally amazing too.

The Magic Kingdom is a must too. Be aware that Peter Pan almost always has a long line, so if your kids want to do that, try and get there at an 'off' time, like 12/1pm or really late at night. There's too much other things to talk about there so I'm not going to type it all.

Disney Studios, go to Toy Story Mania as soon as you enter. The line is long all day long, so it won't matter when you go, but if you go early at least you'll know you did it once and and won't need to worry about standing in line with a bunch of tired kids (other then yours).

As for Sea World, either take a taxi or rent a car. There is no Disney transportation over there. Sea World has nothing to do with Disney, so they aren't likely going to have much information for you and they won't be able to sell you tickets either. They will call you a taxi though, however you'll need to arrange a rental car yourself either at the desk or before you leave home.
