Superheroes safe for toddlers.?

Kelsey

I am looking for a line/group of superheroes that do not depict violence and are therefore safe for 3 and 4 year old boys who do not understand that shooting someone until they are dead or beating them up until they bleed are NOT appropriate ways to deal with a real life situation.

I looked at the Super Hero Squad, but it is still violent, just smaller looking people. I am looking for something that focuses more on the saving than the killing and fighting. For example, if you can find a fire fighter superhero or something like that, someone who does NOT hunt down bad guys and kill them, I would be very grateful.

Answer
Thanks for being such a thoughtful parent or teacher! Characters and concepts that used to be for 6-10 year olds are more and more often getting pushed down to preschool and toddler toys.

Super hero play is empowering for little kids, but we should also consider that kids this age are just beginning to develop impulse control and the ability to resolve a conflict without hitting, kicking, scratching, biting, and screamining. :) Why inundate them with "heroes" who fight, fight, fight?

Your best bet might be the Rescue Heroes. Rescue Heroes is a toy and video line by Fisher Price. They make sturdy action figures that are firefighters, police officers, helicopter pilots, etc. Their accessories are things like shields and sprayers, and they have some fun vehicles.
They can be found here:
http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=7500&e=meet&pcat=hero_world_rh
I wish they had at least one female character, though!

On the computer, look for the Pajama Sam games. The main character is a young boy who dresses as a superhero and has great adventures, but he uses problem solving and reasoning to defeat the bad guys. The games are fun, with just enough suspense to capture the preschooler's imagination.. After my kiddos played Pajama Sam on the computer, they often incorporated Pajama Sam into their pretend play outside. It was still good, fun superhero play, but they focused on finding clues, discovering secrets, making inventions and rather than punching and kicking.

Veggie Tales has a superhero called Larry Boy. This is a Christian cartoon series that seems to have a lot of appeal for kids that age if it happens to be a fit for your personal beliefs. Their silly songs and humor tap into the preschooler's love of the absurd, and the episodes are intended to teach morals. Again, you can see Larry Boy become incorporated into pretend play, and the games are always less violent than when they are playing Batman or Spiderman!

PBS kids has two series - Super Why and World Girl - that have hero-like characters, with a focus on age-appropriate, educational themes. Costumes and toys are available. They are cute, but very "young" - they may not ring true with older preschoolers who have already discovered more grown up superheroes. You can check them out here:

Good luck!

When did your toddler...?

Teen mommy

When did your toddler learn to drink from a big kid cup? Did you get rid of the sippy cups, or keep them for bed time, etc when they did learn?

thanks

Answer
My daughter started trying the big kid cup around 2 years old. I personally don't think it's an important thing to learn young so I didn't push it. She has a cup as part of her bathtub toys and one day she started experimenting.

She still drinks almost exclusively out of sippy cups because we live in a very hot and dry climate and it's important that she has water readily available all day. I'm not going to leave cups of water around the house, so she has sippy cups and I have a water bottle with a built in straw. I fail to see the difference between the two.

Have you seen the batman figurines in Cheerios?

OldrNotwis

What is the purpose? I have this little batman figurine and the only thing that moves is his right arm, like he's trying to pound on something. I had a joker figurine and the only thing that moved was his leg, like he was trying to kick a ball.
RAWR - you sort of answer the question. There is some truth to what you say, but I was looking more for an answer specificly what the purpose of the figuring has. Why does one have just one leg that moves? Why does one just have an arm that moves?

Answer
im guessing so joker can kick batman and batman punch joker but yeah. Its really for kids to play with it. Thats it mostly . Toys. so kids will buy the cereal in order to play with batman and joker

Are the Batman toys really going to be worth a lot later?

Nautilus

My nephew just got some Batman toys for his birthday. He got Batman, some Clown guy and the Joker from the new movie comming out this summer. Should he keep them in the boxes or can he play with them. He is 6 and asked me because his friends were telling him he should not open them. If they are, are they only valuable now or will they be valuable in the future? Thanks.

Answer
No. Too many people are saving toys these days for them to be worth anything in the future.

In the future the only toys that will be worth a bit are variants, exclusives or the toy lines collected only by little children and that are opened and played with(and those you will need to wait until the kids grow up and get nostalgic for their childhoods).

SW, Batman, GIJoe, Transformers, Indiana Jones, etc.. very little price increase in the future do to so many saved by collectors

In the long term Power Rangers would perform better.

where can you buy cheap sex toys?!!?

abercrombi

me and my girlfriend want to experiment but we spend all our money on designer lingerie(it comes off anyways so idk why we do it!) but yeah soo we dont ever have money left, so help a girl in NEED!!

Answer
I would not recommend cheap sex toys. Studies have shown that many sex toys have found to have toxic chemicals in them and you certainly don't want toxic chemicals in such tender areas.
I suggest experimenting with food. whipped cream or warm chocolate syrup can be fun. Spread a blanket on the bed that you don't mind getting stuff on.
Or, if you don't want a mess, tickle each other with feathers.
Do you have a silk or satin scarf? Tease him with it.
You don't have to look far to find interesting things to play with.

what are good websites that show how to make fun bird toys?

Nancy Nee

Answer
Your idea of a "fun toy" for your parrot, may not be your parrots idea of a fun toy. I have been around parrots my WHOLE life (my parents have had their 3 parrots for 37 years, I'm 20 years old, so my whole life), and I have now adopted a amazon who was previously abused. Here are some ideas of toys that may not (do not) look very pretty, but your parrot will love-

Large, bright plastic beads. Make sure they're not coated with anything (like fake pearls), and are way way too big for your bird to swallow. Tie them on a cord, with lots of knots. Absolutely facinating to a parrot (not to mention, fun to untie all those knots!), Plus they're totally un-destroyable and re-useable, just tie on a new string when the old one is frayed.

Clean "garbage". I personally don't want to pay any money for something my bird will destroy in 10 minutes, so I give him what I call "clean garbage". Cracker boxes (not the plastic the crackers were in, remove that), toilet paper/paper towel rolls (shove some toilet paper with little treats wrapped up inside, and you have a great foraging opportunity), rolled up newspapers, old phone books, old paperback books (remove any shiny covers or pages, just leave the plain paper). You'll have a big mess, but your parrot will have fun.

If you live in the forest, collect and boil (for about 10 minutes) pine cones or small pieces of wood. Parrots love to chew woody stuff, and it's good for their beaks.

If you live near a beach, little sea shells are great too (the flat clamshells, nothing a tiny toe can get caught in). Boil for 10 minutes to sterilize. If your parrot breaks them (mine just rolls them around in his beak), remove them, and don't offer them again. broken sea shells can cut you birds tongue.

In the summer months, I stock up on used baby toys from garage sales for a quarter or fifty cents a piece. Wash them well in hot water (no soap), and they will provide just as much amusement to your parrot as a $20 dollar acrylic parrot toy from the petstore. Soft plastic toys are great for ripping up, and liking toys are great to add wood or plastic beads to for hour of entertainment.

I use all these things for my bird, and my parents do for theirs too. Pretty much everything I mentioned is free fun for your bird, and if you look at garage sales, baby toys can be pretty cheap. Hope I helped!

I need an alternative to cake for a toddler's 2 year birthday?

Stephanie

My son isnt a "sweets" kinda kid. He enjoys all kinds of fruit however. I have seen how you can carve a basket out of a watermelon and think something similar would be a cute alternative like a car or truck or something "boyish". Any ideas how to do it websites would be great! Thanks!

Answer
Listen to Christopher! It does take alot of time and practive to do crafty carvings! Your two year old wont remember the time and effort you put into such crafting. If you are having a party, why dont you have cake anyway, however, add his favorite fruit somehow in a creative manner. For some kids, it is all about the presentation! He will be too busy with his guests and toys to worry about anything else! Try the following website for some kid friendly ideas! Good luck! (I just went through a two year old birthday myself, and chose the easy route of ordering a cake from the nearest bakery! She didnt eat cake, but she enjoyed blowing out the candles and picking the Minnie Mouse toy toppings off of the cake!)

Answer
Hello!

I am a huge fan of Disney World and have all of the books and merchandise so I thought I'd leave you a comment and see if I can help at all. I am 17, and have been to Disney World about 6 times and loved it all ages, I first went when I was 6 so I can sort of relate to your children's ages.

I'll go through each park and let you know what I feel is appropriate place / thing to do for a 4 and 5 year old, hopefully I will be of some help.

Magic Kingdom:
Donald's Boat = A water play area,
Mickey and Minnie's Houses = Great to explore, real houses with lots of hidden secrets,
Barnstormer = A young children's rollercoaster,
Jungle Cruise = A river boat with lots of audio-animatronic animals,
Pirates of the Caribbean = Is a maybe, as there is quite a large drop.
The enchanted tiki room = Audio-animatronic bord show,
Country bear jamboree = An audio-animatronic musical show with bears,
Tom Sawer Island = A huge play area kind of place with lots of room to explore,
Haunted Mansion = I went on it at 6 and found it hilarious! But some bits are a little spooky,
Liberty Belle Riverboat = Relaxing cruise
Main Street Vehicles = Can ride a fire engine, a tram, a horse and cart right up to the castle,
Cinderella's golden carousel = Pretty self explanatory
Mickey's Philharmagic = A 3D musical show with all disney characters,
Dumbo = Elephants which the kids can control to go up or down,
Peter Pan's Flight = An indoor ride in pirate ships that goes around Neverland,
It's a Small World = An indoor cruise around the world with lots of little singing dolls,
Mad Tea Party = Alice in Wonderland themed tea cup ride
Snow White's Scary Adventures = Is a maybe, as the witch scenes are dark and could be scary.
Winnie the Pooh = Definitely!!! Kids will love it, ride in a hunny pot around the 100 acre wood,
Tomorrowland Indy Speedway = Drive cars around a track
Carousel of Progress = A moving theatre that takes you into the past and future of technology,
Monsters Inc Laugh Floor = An interactive comedy kids show where they can talk to you,
Buzz Lightyear = A space ranger shooting game through Zurg's Planet,

EPCOT-
Journey into Imagination = A cute ride into the 5 senses with a purple character named figment,
The seas with nemo and friends = Climb into a shell and meet nemo and friends,
Spaceship earth = A ride through the life of communication,
Honey I shrunk the audience = A 3d interactive show,
Grand fiesta tour with three caballeros = A boat ride to find donald duck as he's lost in mexico,
Universe of energy = a moving theatre, but it's very ong and they may get bored...
Soarin' = lifted up into the air and put in front of a cinema screen,
Living with the land = boat ride through epcots greenhouses,
Turtle talk with crush = let your kids talk to crush the turtle from finding nemo

Hollywood Studios -
The Great Movie Ride = Go through some of the most famous movies including mary poppins and wizard of oz,
Beauty and the beast live = A musical show,
MuppetVision 3D = A 3D movie experience, FANTASTIC!
Honey I shrunk the kids movie set = Playground where everything is HUGE!
Backlot tour = Look behind the scenes at props,
Toy Story Midway Mania = Play 3D shoot out games while on a ride,
Journey into Narnia = Walk into narnia through a wardrobe,
Voyage of the little mermaid = A little mermaid show,
Playhouse disney = Live stage show usually either handy manny, bear in the bug blue houe, little einsteins, my friends tigger and pooh or mickey mouse clubhouse.
High School Musical Pep Rally = Live dance/singing show

Animal Kingdom -
Finding Nemo Show = A musical with huge puppets,
Kilimanjaro Safaris = A safari ride with real animals,
It's tough to be a bug = A 3D show with Flik from a bug's life, some bits may shock them as they touch seats etc.
Festival of the Lion King = A lion king themed show,
Pangani forest = A trail through forest to see hippos, birds and fish,
Wildlife express train = A train ride to see behind the scenes animal enclosures,
Affection section = Petting zoo,
Flights of wonder = Bird show,
The Boneyard = Play area where they can dig up dinosaur bones,
TriceraTop Spin = A dumbo-like ride with dinosaurs

So there you have it, those are the rides that I would deem appropriate for your girls.
Don't forget they can also meet lots of characters at each park, there are also night-time fireworks, shows and day-time parades for them to see.
There are lots of little hidden extras that will surprise them along the way too.

As well there is Downtown Disney full of shops that will entertain them; such as the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique where your little girls can get dressed up as princesses, have their hair and make-up done too. There is Once upon a toy, which is a HUGE toy shop. And also a lego store which has lots of lego sculptures inside and outside.

Also the monorail is exciting for kids as they can see Cinderella's Castle in the distance.

what happen to all the toy stores?

TREBOR.

when i was growing up there was like 3-4 toy stores in the mall, now they've all moved or went out of business, there's nothing but clothing stores, and then we wonder why our kids are so screwed up, and hanging in the streets its like there childhood has been taken from them, you hardly see kids playing street football, or doing kid stuff, seems most want to be a stupid ass thug, it just aint right, we are totally losing our youth.

Answer
Walmart, Kmart, Target, Meijer, thats wut happened to all the toy stores. The mom & pop stores can't compete with the big box stores. Sad but true the other thing is kids just don't get out and play like they did when we were kids. they are on their computer games. The neighbor kids were lookin for something to do and i suggested kickball in the field behind the houses. Parents would not let their kids come out and play because because there would be no adults there and someone might kidnap their kids. I volunteered to supervise. we put up posters and set a time. It took a couple of weeks for word to get out and for parents to ease up and get enough for 2 teams but now we have 3 games goin 2 or 3 times a week. alot of parents are joining in now too. We all have a great time.

Sometimes investing in something long-lasting which costs you $40 more at first will outlast something cheaper which has to be replaced 3 times.

First tablet for kids. Second grader and is a very quick and fast learner.?

fletcher h

My friends grandson wants a tablet for Christmas. He is 8yrs. old and a fast learner and a very smart kid. He is a second grade student and makes perfect grades in school!!! He has been playing video games since he was 4yrs. old and figures out new games he gets very quickly!!! I was amazed how quickly learned how to use his DS!!!!! I would like my friends here to recommend a good first tablet for this smart young man. Not a toy tablet but the real thing for him to get started with. 7 inch would be a nice size. Thanks very much for any help I can get. This is a great kid and loves to learn!!! I want to get one that will challenge him not too hard but not too easy either!! Again thanks for all the help I can get. This kid really deserves a gift like this!!!

Answer
A Leappad could be something you can look into :)

for a child, would you get a tablet or ipod?

lovingmomm

ok not exactly an Iphone out of my budget. I have £100 and would like to buy my child either an android tablet or an android galaxy mp3 which is like the ipod touch. the only problem is I'm torn as to which, mp3 is phone size and has better portability, but tablet is bigger so better for seeing and mistouches on the pad. what are your thoughts?

just a few notes. I believe that being tech savvy in todays world is a good thing, there are lots of educational games available through android and I've seen how fast my son learns through a computer, and it's faster than I can teach him. I believe in limiting screen time and this would in no way replace the toys he has or books, I love books and this is a love that I am fostering in my son too, technology can be a compliment. I guess what I'm really trying to say is please no answers of "neither, children should have oldfashioned games and books like we did as children" I've made an educated decision about buying my child this item, just not yet come to a conclusion as to which, I guess that's where opinions come in and what I'm here for

Answer
It depends on how ur son is. I would probably go with the tablet..but be careful u dont want to spoil ur son...either. So many kids r spoiled now a days.. and this is coming from a kid.

how do i kiss a girl?

mj

are there any sites that tell how guys can kiss girls

Answer
* Girls like a short kiss for the first kiss.
* Kissing during an on screen kiss during a movie can sometimes be a good idea. Try doing it when you feel the tension has sufficiently mounted.
* Also, it's usually okay to go in for the kiss if you catch her looking at you during the on-screen.
* It is probably best done in a private place, so that you two feel more comfortable.
* Offering to do it in a bed may make people uncomfortable, and they may feel pressured.
* You can put on some music to set the mood.
* You could try candles-they set a passionate mood.
* Discussing what you and your partner like and dislike helps a lot when heading towards kissing.
* Make sure your breath smells alright -- use mints if you need to. (Note: sometimes the mints may not be enough. In that case, try using a little peroxide before you brush -- don't forget your tongue. And make sure to floss regularly. Most of the time, these steps can eliminate the need for gum or mints.)
* If you have braces, make sure they're clean.
* Talk to her while kissing each other. Girls like it if you whisper nice things. For example you can say something like: "You're beautiful" or "I dreamed of kissing you since I saw you the first time." Practice talking while kissing: It´s important that your lips don't lose contact with hers while talking.
* Put your strong hand pointer finger under her chin. Tell her she's amazing, and lean in with a slight smirk.
* When she's wearing lip-gloss, do the "you paint it on and I take it off" thing.

* If your girlfriend is tired or not in the passionate mood, don't start the whole heavy breathing kissing thing because she may think you are a lust hungry freak.
* Think before you kiss on a first date. Rushing doesn't do anyone any good.
* Remember, friendship first, then love. But be careful to not get stuck in the "Friend's Box" where she doesn't know that you "like her".
* Don't lower your hands too far down if she's not comfortable with it. If you have before and she didn't say anything, chances are she likes it ;)
* Don't try to go in for a French kiss too quickly—sometimes this can startle a girl and make her feel pressured.
* If she pulls away or wants to stop, do not go for more. It makes her uncomfortable and that's bad.
* Don't force her into anything. If she says no, then stop, and she will be cool.
* Don't talk smack about her friends or close guy friends. She'll tell them.
* If you do decide to use candles, make sure they are away from anything flammable. That can wreck your relationship if you burn her house down.
* When/if she rejects you about anything, go with it. Don't run crying.
* Do not use gum to freshen up your breath. It builds up saliva in your mouth, which makes your breath worse.

GUYS-How do you feel about girls kissing other girls?

Jessica

We're both bisexual & best friends. We ALWAYS kiss on the lips..NOTHING more. Is that weird? or ok. My ex hated it.

Answer
Girls kissing Girls are GAY/ LESBIAN. i dont care if its widely accepted or not ... the brainwashing of the future generation is because of what we accept today.

Im a male , and its no different than seeing 2 guys kiss .....GAY (way less common thank god)

The only thing about girls kissing is that its so common that when i see it , i treat it passively.
and that is how I know that we are f*ckin up the future because no one cares to correct anybody anymore ...PARENTS???? cuz I see more teens being gay than i do adults ?

everyone has a right to whatever the F they wanna do , God gave us free will but dam ... Who/ or What do you believe in ... I vividly remember reading in the bible that says ( not in these words )

Thou shalt Not be Gay

christmas toys for my kids?

Jhoanne

I am going to get the toys for my kids. since we are going to a roughttime we are going to get free from toys for tots. Can i go alone there *(they already have my info). or do i need to take my children. they are 12,9.7,11 years old. I don't want them to fell bad if they are getting free staff.

Answer
I don't think your kids need to go with you. They should have the information on all your children and have some things put aside for them already.

I don't see a reason for the kids to have to come. It might be better for them not to because like you said they may feel embarrassed, and it will ruin the surprise.

You shouldn't feel embarrassed lots of people are having a hard time this Christmas. I wish you the best for the new year and happy holidays.

Angel Tree-The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program provides new clothing or toys for children of needy families, with angel tree’s often found in high-traffic areas such as malls, churches and corporations. Each tree is decorated with numbered paper angel tags with the first name, age and gender of a child who will receive the gift. To sponsor a child from the Angel Tree, simply remove one or more tags from the tree and purchase appropriate gifts for the child or children described on the tags. The organization displaying the Angel Tree is also the collection point or drop-off location for all gifts.

Toys for Tots- The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program helps needy children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; playing an active role in collecting and delivering a shiny new toy at Christmas. Local toy collection campaigns begin in October and last until December 22, with toy deliveries normally taking place on December 23 and 24. Community members drop new, unwrapped toys at toys for tots locations, which are collection boxes positioned in local businesses. These toys are stored in warehouses, sorted by age and gender, and then delivered to needy children at Christmastime.

Operation Christmas Child- Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to needy children around the world through shoe boxes or small plastic containers filled with unwrapped toys, school supplies, candy and other gifts, then shipped to needy children overseas with a personal note included. Suggested gift ideas include toys like small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, and toys that light up and/or make noise. Christmas gifts of pencils, pens, crayons, markers, coloring books and other art supplies are encouraged, as are gifts of toothbrushes, toothpaste, bar soap, and other personal care, hygiene items.

Make a Wish Foundation- You can make this holiday season special for children dealing with life-threatening medical conditions and illnesses by your generous donations to the Make a Wish Foundation of America Adopt-A-Wish program, thus helping a child’s dream come true. Make a Wish’s unique holiday donation options help grant the wishes of children, creating special memories for the wish child and family. Those who adopt a wish by making a donation are provided a unique and special story of how your donation bought joy to a wish child.

My Two Front Teeth- My Two Front Teeth is a non-profit, charity organization that provides donated toys to underprivileged children in daycare, preschools and community agencies. You can donate toys online; just sign up to receive an email notification prior to the holiday season, choose a child to sponsor and purchase and donate toys to children in need via My Two Front Teeth. My Two Front Teeth offers a personalized, online gift-giving experience to aid underprivileged children. Children are selected through community organizations and allowed to individually pick their one holiday wish.

The Christmas holiday season is fast approaching, so start an annual tradition of charitable giving, donating toys and other items to needy children and families. Setting the right example and role-modeling heartfelt giving, volunteering to help serve holiday meals in shelters or soup kitchens for the homeless, children are less likely to grow up with a serious case of entitlement and will have better appreciation and gratitude for what parents have done for them throughout the years.

What is the summary of Toy Story (1995)?

Q. Make your own best summary for Toy Story (1995).

Answer
Im actually watching it right now.

A cowboy doll, Woody, is the leader of a group of toys that come to life whenever their owner Andy is not present. With his family moving home and one week before his birthday, the toys stage a reconnaissance mission to discover Andy's new presents. Andy receives a space ranger Buzz Lightyear action figure, whose impressive features soon see him replacing Woody as Andy's favorite toy. Woody is disappointed and resentful at his replacement. Meanwhile Buzz does not understand that he is a toy, believing himself to be a real space ranger, and sees Woody as an interference in his mission to return to his home planet.

Andy prepares to go to a family outing at the space themed Pizza Planet restaurant with Buzz. Woody attempts to have Buzz misplaced, but ends up knocking him out the window. The other toys mistakenly think that Woody tried to get rid of him. With a missing Buzz, Andy takes Woody with him to Pizza Planet instead. Buzz sees Andy getting into his mother's car with Woody and manages to climb aboard. While stopped at a gas station, Buzz confronts Woody for what he did. The two fight and accidentally land outside the car, which drives off and leaves them stranded. Woody spots a truck bound for Pizza Planet and plans to rendezvous with Andy there. Needing Buzz to return with him, Woody convinces him that the truck will take them to a spaceship. Once at Pizza Planet, Buzz makes his way into a claw game machine shaped like a spaceship, thinking it to be the ship Woody promised him. While Woody clambers in to try and rescue him, they are captured by Andy's neighbor, the toy-destroying Sid Phillips.

At Sid's house, the two desperately attempt to escape before Andy's family's moving day, encountering nightmarish mutant toys as well as Sid's vicious dog Scud. Buzz sees a commercial for Buzz Lightyear action figures just like himself and realizes that he is a toy. Woody is unable to get a depressed Buzz to participate in his escape plan. Sid prepares to destroy Buzz by strapping a firework rocket to him, but is delayed by a thunderstorm. Woody convinces Buzz that life is worth living even if he is not a space ranger because of the joy he can bring to children. Buzz regains his spirit, but Sid takes him to his backyard. In cooperation with Sid's mutant toys, Woody stages a rescue of Buzz and scares Sid off by coming to life. However, the two miss Andy's car as it drives away to his new house.

Running out on the road, they manage to climb onto the moving truck but Scud gives chase and Buzz tackles the dog to save Woody. Woody attempts to rescue Buzz with Andy's RC but the other toys, who still distrust him, toss him off onto the road. However, spotting Woody driving RC back with Buzz alive and well, they realize their mistake and try to help them into the truck. When RC's batteries become depleted, Woody ignites the rocket on Buzz's back and manages to throw RC into the moving truck just as the duo go soaring into the air. Buzz then opens his wings to cut himself free of the rocket moments before it explodes, and he and Woody land safely inside Andy's car to Andy's joy.

On Christmas Eve at the new house, a reconciled Buzz and Woody stage another reconnaissance mission to prepare for the new toy arrivals, one of the new toys being a Mrs. Potato Head. As Woody jokingly asks what might be worse than Buzz, the two share a worried smile as they discover Andy's new gift, a puppy.

I need Christmas gift ideas?

Tommy

My work is participating in adopt a kid for christmas this year. We got an 8 year old boy. I chose to buy him a toy but I have no idea what to get him. I need ideas on what are good toys to buy for his age range.

Answer
It of course depends on the child, LEGO is a good option, since it's timeless and they have collections aimed at slightly older kids from 6-10, like the Star Wars sets or the Lone Ranger sets. Also you can't go wrong with R/C gadgets like a helicopter or car.

There are a few good items on this list for boys in 2013 - http://www.topkidstoys.com/top-boys-christmas-toys-2013.php that would suit an 8 year old.
Good luck.

Answer
my nephews are 4 and almost 6 and they share a room.

We didn't want just white because with boys walls wont stay white. She didn't want the traditional blue. She wanted a light grey that looks almost white.

They have this bunk bed that can be turned into 2 twin beds if they ever get their own room.

What is a good christmas gift for an 18 month old boy?

My godson will be 18 months by christmas. I am unsure of what to get him. I usually spend around $50 to $75 on him for christmas. I want to get him something fun that he wont outgrow right away. Maybe something that involves learning. Any ideas or suggestions?

Answer
Light & Flight Airplane by iPlay - The Light 'N Flight Airplane is the perfect toddler ride on toy for
youngsters. The soft propeller spins, and the airplane lights up with changing patterns! Your toddler
will hear the captain speak, realistic take-of sounds and landing sounds. Turn the key, and then shift
the gears to hear revving sounds. This toddler toy plays familiar tunes. Handy storage space under
the seat can hold special little treasures. The rear handle is excellent for beginning walkers, too.

OR

John Deer Animal Sounds Hay Ride by Learning Curve - Chunky John Deere tractor pulls along farm animals. Four animals are
removable, and must be matched with their correct seats in the wagon. Each animal makes realistic sounds when they are
pushed down. Plays "Old McDonald" when the farmer figure is pushed. Recommended for ages 18 months and over.

Merry Christmas!

DISNEYWORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Katie

I'm going to DISNEYWORLD for the first time in June, do you think it's a good time to go? I'm from Australia and I've been waiting to go here all my life! Is there any tips when going there, or what to pack? any shows or rides I must see or go on? :D THANKS SO MUCH ! Xx

Answer
Like the last answers said, it will be busy, and no matter how high of expectations you have, WDW will exceed them! I agree with everything the previous answers said, so take that advice in addition to mine. Here's some of my favorite things to do and some tips and hotels.

I would start by going to disneyworld.com and allears.net! This year they are running limited time magic. They announce them as they occur. Check limitedtimemagic.com on Fridays to see that week's announcement! The following are my favorite rides, shows, and more. Some of them are kind of aimed towards kids (like Buzz), but are fun for all ages. If you are "too cool" though, don't do it, just know they are great fun. Any ways, here you go:

Magic Kingdom: Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Wishes, Main Street Electrical Parade, Celebrate the Magic, Big Thunder Mountain, Buzz Light Year, Small World (music's annoying, but it's a classic), Jungle Cruise, Mad T Party, Philhar Magic, Monster's Inc Laugh Floor, Peter Pan, Under The Sea, and Carousel of Progress.

EPCOT: Ellen's Energy Adventure, Gran Fiesta Tour, Journey Into Imagination, Maelstrom, SOARIN, The Seas, SpaceShip Earth, Test Track, and Illuminations. (I don't know how much you like educational shows so I left them out.) Additionally there are lots of entertainers and things to see.

Hollywood Studios: Great Movie Ride, Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow, Muppet Vision 3D, Rock 'N Roller Coaster (ONLY IF YOU LIKE BIG THRILL), Star Tours, Backlot Tour, Toy Story Mania, Twilight Zone Tower Of Terror (Thrill, but more show than thrill), Beauty and the Beast, Fantasmic, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, Lights Motors Actions, and Voyage of the Little Mermaid. Tons of shows, so beyond this, just kinda do what looks cool. These are the must dos though!

Animal Kingdom: Conservation Station, Dinosaur, Expedition Everest, It's Tough to Be A Bug, Kali River Rapids (You will get wet), Kilimanjaro Safaris, Festival of the Lion King, Finding Nemo, Flights of Wonder, There are endless trails and paths to walk through and see animals, so I'll let you decide on that.

As far as dining goes, for most sit down restaurants you will need a reservation. You will have a good time no matter what though. Just go with a smile. :-) There are also tons of character meet and greets through out the park. Look at the calendar on Disneyworld.com to plan what days you will be in what park to make sure you can see the shows, as they don't all run every night. Also, Disney Quest (located in Downtown Disney) is a five story arcade that has awesome simulators, new video games, and the classics. There are two water parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Blizzard Beach offers a more thrilling experience, while Typhoon Lagoon is better for families. All three require extra admission. (or if you have "fun and more" on your tickets, that is what it's for.). Disney World has two mini golf areas, also requiring extra admission (or "fun and more"), that have a touch of Disney Magic. As far as hotels go I would recommend the following;

Value: Pop Century, great fun and you can walk across the bridge to the newest resort, Art Of Animation.
Moderate: Port Orleans French Quarter, you can walk to River Side. It is the smallest Disney resort, which is good as you will walk a ton. You can take a boat to Downtown Disney and back.
Deluxe: Beach Club, sand bottom pool and lazy river. You can walk to Epcot or Hollywood Studios. Additionally, you can walk to Yacht Club, Board Walk, Swan, and Dolphin. Five hotels for the price of one! You do need a valid Beach Club room key to access the pool though.

Also, things like Fantasmic, everyone reads the same tip: the second show is less crowded. Because everybody reads that though, it's not so true anymore. Take tips like that at your own risk! Make sure that you have at least one day for swimming and relaxing at the hotel. Get Fast Passes for the newest rides, as they are usually the longest lines. You will be there as they are updating to the new MyMagic+ system, meaning that rather than having a ticket, a hotel room key, fast passes, gift/credit cards, you will just wear a wrist band. The wristband will count as your park admission, your hotel key card, credit card (optional), and your FastPass. The FastPass system will be upgraded to FastPass+, so you decide online which attractions you want a fastpass for on which days at what time. You can then edit your decisions in the park, online, or on a mobile device. Like I said earlier, you will have a good time no matter what, and Disney World will exceed ANY expectations you have, no matter how high they are.

Hope I helped,

- Andrew

Answer
There used to be a game named VMK(Virtual Magic Kingdom), but it closed down.
A fan-made game derived from VMK called VFK(Virtual Family Kingdom). It's very similar to VMK, but the graphics is highly different, from an advanced looking 2-D to a primitive looking 3-D.

Do you have problems saying sorry?

JustMe

I do. Ugh I hate that word, how can I say sorry to my dad? I know that he will yell at me because I yelled at him yesterday and my mom told me to say sorry so how do I do that?

Answer
I also hate saying sorry, What I do when i have to sa sorry is cross my fingers behind me and while i sorry i think of the things i would love to say, for example i sorry to my older sister and while i say it i think u get on my nerves and stuff. i cross my fingers becaues it makes me feel ike i dont mean it

who should say sorry?

Alison W

my friend bails and lies to me all the time. she cancels plans last minutes. and blames everything on her parents divorce. so thats why ive been talking behind her back.she found out and now we arent friends. ive been feeling guilty about it and i feel like a bad person. but i dont know if i even want to be friends with her anymore. whos fault is it? who should say sorry?

Answer
Both should say sorry but the chances of your friend saying sorry may not be forthcoming. Be realistic that she may never. Unfortunately, your friend has used her parents' divorce as a crutch instead of allowing herself to grow, she has chosen to allow herself to atrophy. Atrophy of any muscles become useless. Eventually, you have to let go of the crutch and do the hard work to make it develop. Granted it is painful, but the rewards could be awesome.

Perhaps you should apologize by stating, "I am sorry I spoke bad about you behind your back. That was wrong of me, but I am very frustrated by you constantly cancelling plans we make as I get excited we are going to do things together and then get so very disappointed when you don't make it. I miss our old friendship. I am sorry about your parents. I am sure it sucks for you, but you can't let your parents' mistake to define your happiness. Only you can. Let me help you remember life can still be fun and no matter what, the next plan we make together, I will come and drag you by your hair and I don't care if your even naked, you are still going out with me!" Say something like that with a smile and a giggle and see if that will help.

Also, no more talking behind people's back. Sometimes a frank conversation with honesty can clear many misunderstandings. There may be more going on with her cancellations, try to find out what is going on deeper in her world if she will let you. If she declines, respect it and just let her know you are there.

Sometimes, friends do grow in different directions. That is OK too and try not to look at how the friendship ended but how the friendship you had enriched your life and made you today!

Good luck and I do hope it works out for you

Rc Plane or Rc Buggy?

Lucas

I was wondering which one to purchase---a remote control buggy or a plane? What would be the most fun? Thanks for your feedback!

Answer
Hi Lucas

Your question depends on you like more and price.
RC planes are a lot of fun but you need access to open areas to fly one. You will also need to have an idea of what type you would like to purchase as this can impact on the amount of fun you want to get from the model.

What do your friends have? Planes or cars?

RC cars are great if you like to do jumps, back flips or go drifting. The advantage with a car when you are just getting interested in RC is that when you crash, the car in most cases suffers little or no damage (depending on what you buy).

Get on YouTube and search for things you like in the remote control area, there are thousands of videos to look at.

Hope this helps with your search

Parkzone F4U Corsair RC plane?

Shogun

If I am relatively good at flight sim video games and know relativley well how to use ailerrons, rudders etc... would I be able to fly a Parkzone F4U Corsair RC airplane? And if I DID land too hard, they seems relatively "repairable" ?

I am also quite an experienced modeller and am more than adequate at doing small repairs...

I just don't want to blow 279 dollars on a toy that I destroy in 7 seconds :) I tried the Pheonix RC simulator with a Corsair at this shop and id fairly well with it, but I'm still not sure.

Answer
This is a highly maneuverable plane, BUT it is NOT the plane for a beginner for several reasons:
1. It is a low wing aircraft, and the "gull" wing makes it a bit tricky to land, especially in "breezy" weather unless you can land DIRECTLY into the breeze. (I have a "scale" Corsair using a .60 with retracts and flaps, somewhat larger!)
2. It is a "tail-dragger", which DOES require additional skills for takeoff as they do NOT handle as easily as a "tricycle" gear, nor do they land the same, REQUIRING you to know how to "flare" on landing IF it is close to scale.

This plane does NOT have retractable landing gear, so it SHOULD be able to take slightly rougher landings than similar planes with retracts.
Note that it is FOAM construction, therefore very light AND difficult to repair, (parts are USUALLY replaced, rather than repaired, and that CAN get expensive.)

My suggestion would be to buy a high-wing trainer FIRST, and work up to more advanced models.
Sims are fine, (I use one myself to keep in practice somewhat,) but REAL planes DO fly differently.

You MIGHT also consider a kit WITHOUT radio, and buy a 6 channel, (or greater,) radio so that when you DO move up to more advanced models, you will not need to replace your radio transmitter; since you say you are an experienced modeler you should have no trouble assembling a kit plane.

Whoever invented Bozo the clown?

Bozo Todor

Answer
Bozo the Clown didn't start out as a cartoon character. He began in a series of book and record sets, designed so kids could listen to a story and read it at the same time. The first of them was Bozo at the Circus, issued in 1946 by Capitol Records. It was highly innovative, very popular and much imitated, and it made a good deal of money for the character's creator, writer/producer Alan W. Livingston.

were you ever on Bozo the Clown?

Phat Phil

What Sims 3 Expansion Pack as of 2013 brings the most content?

Andy f

In terms of game-play and keeping things fresh?

I only have WA and NL

So out of the following, which ones would you say are a must have? And which ones aren't worth the money?

Ambitions
Generations
Pets
Showtime
Supernatural
Seasons
University (To Be Released)
Island Paradise (To Be Released)

Also, what Stuff Packs do you think are worth getting? Or has the most content?

High-End Loft Stuff
Fast Lane Stuff
Outdoor Living Stuff
Town Life Stuff
Master Suite Stuff
Katy Perry's Sweet Treats
Diesel Stuff
70s, 80s & 90s Stuff

Thanks!

Also, a bit unrelated...but is it just me...Or does it seem that Sims 3 just doesn't quite have the same charm as it used to have in Sims 2? Or even 1 for that matter? Will any of these expansions bring that charm back?

Answer
If you enjoy playing with careers or want your Sim to have the ability to be self-employed (writer, painter, gardener, etc.) or like the idea of being more involved with your Sim's actual work, then you would like Ambitions. It added many new professions and self-employment, and added new education career. You can follow your Sim on the job as firefighter, architect, stylist, spirit hunter, private investigator. It added a salon, fire station, inventions, junkyard, sculpting, and a consignment shop to sell your art and various other things. The time machine is an awesome invention!

If you enjoy playing with non-traditional Sims, Supernatural is an excellent EP that added fairies, witches, genies (if you have Pets), and werewolves; enhanced vampires and ghosts; and allowed selection of non-human Sims at creation. It also added a lunar cycle, some interesting new venues, alchemy skill, the ability to grind your own gemstones, the fortuneteller career (mystic and psychic branches), and a consignment shop that is open 24/7. EDIT: Since you have Late Night, when I got Supernatural, it gave me the option to opt out of the celebrity system and/or remove celebrities altogether, YAY! It also added several new cool recipes and plants like mushrooms, ghost chilis, and honey.

If you enjoy the family aspect of Sims and want that more enhanced, then Generations is good. It added the daycare profession, which your Sim does at home, and several new toys for the tots and children. It also added after-school activities, boarding schools, pranks, discipline, learning/teaching to drive, sleepovers, and teen parties while parents are away.

If you crave realistic weather, they did an excellent job with Seasons. It added seasons (of course lol), very realistic weather, new recipe pumpkin pie, community festivals, new parties, trick or treating, snowboarding, rollerskating, iceskating, flowers to pick for simoleons, slow dancing, online dating, egg hunts, kissing booths, eating contests, tanning, swimming in the ocean.

I'm not as enthusiastic about Pets or Showtime. But between the two, Pets is the much better. It adds wildlife (turtles, lizards, etc.) that you catch and keep or sell, cats & dogs & horses you raise from babies or adopt as adults, an equestrian center to do races and breed horses, a training field for racing and jumping horses, new dog and cat parks.

Showtime wasn't worth the money, IMO. It added three new professions that you basically have to "babysit" your Sim so they don't bomb on stage as they do their constant gigs, and after playing awhile, the stage performances are extremely repetitive. If you play more than one Sim, it's difficult to do that because you have to really keep on top of what the performer Sim does.

And IMO, no stuff pack is really worth the money. The 70s, 80s, 90s pack was especially disappointing. They barely added anything, and they had SO many possibilities that they just didn't bother with.

I'm looking forward to University Life (baristas, brewing teas, "herbs" [drugs], and a ton of new social things) but Island Paradise? I'm just about beside myself, lol, waiting for it to come out in June! Houseboats, speedboats, jet skis, traveling between islands, living in the middle of the *ocean* if you want and not tied to any land, ladders, fishing off the boats, scuba diving with (they promise) sea life and not a rabbit hole, snorkeling...

Why am i so obsessed with having a baby?!?

Jamie

I am 20 years old and my fiance is 21. We have been in a solid relationship for 4 years and got engaged last christmas. We have already made our wedding plans and are ready to put things in motion for our 2013 wedding. However I am having trouble concentrating on anything but babies!! Three of my friends just had babies and i find myself so jealous I cant even be happy for them. I have been looking online at other peoples newborns and I'm starting to scare myself. My fiance and i have decided we want children soon but I'm not sure if now is the best time. We are stable in our own 2 bedroom apartment, we have a car we own, several baby needs such as high scair bouncer, toys, ect ( from my sister who had a baby last year) and stable well paying jobs. But i dont want to feel like im missing out on anything. I always said i wanted to be stable so i could give my children what the want not only what they need. But am I ready??

Answer
I say go for it! Jealousy just reveals what you want: Children.

Yet go on a nice adventurous vacation before you have kids. There are a few years with young children that really ties you down, so you'll want to look back and know that were able to go somewhere cool before that.

Good luck! and pick out family names for their middle names!

Batman toys with different themes?

Bobby A

Back when I was a kid I used to see Batman toys where Batman would have a special costume on. Each costume had certain weapons and gadgets. My question is, was this based on the comic book Batman or were they just made up by the company who made them? I ask because I never really read the book and I never saw him in those costumes on the cartoon.

Answer
Your probably talking about mego action figures.

damn i feel old talking about them.

Mego was a basic figure they all looked alike but they had different costumes. Like batman superman, hulk, punisher mostly marvel and dc characters, star trek and star wars.

Christmas Help for toddler?

Nikkie

I live in pasadena md I have a 2yr old daughter and cannot afford gifts or a christmas tree all list are full and noone seems to want to help me. Anyone know what I can do?

Answer
Christmas is not that important to me. It seems most the stuff is junk and does not ever get played with. I limit the amount of toys that come in my home. So don't let it get you down. Celebrate the holiday together and make it not about gifts.

I highly recommend Dolly Parton's Imagination library, free book program. Hopefully your state offers it. Also nickjr.com has a website that is also giving free books, I don't know the details, I saw a commercial last night about it and haven't researched it.

I would choose a book over a toy any day for a 2 year old. Plus your 2 year old will get a book every month.

You can also ask for a toy on the Toys For Tots website.

what are some very popular boy toddler toys?

Cheap, sturdy toys for preschoolers?

Where do I buy the best inexpensive toys? What are the best toys that kids stay interested in?

Answer
WalMart has a good selection and the prices are reasonable.

Kids like to do role playing. Miniature kitchens, tool-shops, dress-ups, etc. are a lot of fun and very educational for toddlers. They are learning about the world around they through playing out what they see.

Supervised crayons, water-color paints, construction paper, blunt-edged scissors and glue sticks are another cheap, but very fun for kids this age. They love to create and it helps them to improve their hand-eye coordination too.

The beauty about this age is that they are learning while playing. It is effortless and fun.
