Toddler activities for busy mom?

cqueen4

I need some ideas of activities to play with my toddler and ones for him to do alone.

I am a stay-at-home mom but also have a four month old son who I am nursing. It is hard to give both boys attention, make meals, do housework, etc so I end up putting the TV on for my toddler A LOT.

It is all educational shows but I want something else to do with him and mostly for him to do alone. He has toys to play with but it seems he gets bored of them and wants to come find me. I will play with him as much as I can, but I need to give attention to my younger son. And I have many things I need to get done around the house as well.

Ideas of activities we can do together? Ideas of activities he can do alone while I'm doing housework or taking care of my baby?
I should have mentioned that my toddler is only 17 months old.

And I am a stay-at-home mom...I love my son and want to give him attention but cannot afford to be hiring a babysitter like that!
I mentioned his age because he is not old enough yet to just sit and color on his own or to help me w/ chores.
I just have to say this - please so remarks of "get a babysitter". We can't afford one plus we actually believe PARENTS should raise their OWN children.

And just so I don't get any other comments about me writing so many details - both my sons are napping right now and I'm waiting for the dryer to finish so that's why I am online quick trying to get some bills paid and am looking for answers to this question.

Thank you.
I make sacrifices so we can afford for me to stay home w/ my children so I don't appreciate the responses saying that I should just go out and hire a babysitter as a way to remedy my situation - that's all I was getting at

Each to their own on daycare or not....I believe it's wrong but that's my right as it is your right to disagree.

.

Answer
My older two are 17 months apart, so I know about where you are right now. For what it's worth, it does get easier, and my girls are now very good friends (at ages 4 and 5 1/2).

Anyway, here are some things that worked for us while I was nursing the baby, cooking dinner, etc.

Play an interactive game where you're talking a lot, but don't have to *do* anything with your toddler. One that my daughter liked was "baking." She'd mix up some imaginary food in her toy kitchen and bring it to me to taste. I'd take a little taste and then respond, "Hmm, needs more cinnamon." She'd take it back and mix the imaginary mixture again. We'd go back and forth for quite a while with me recommending a variety of ingredients and saying that it tasted yummy or yucky each time.

Read books while nursing.

Make up a "treasure box" of things that your toddler can only play with while you nurse the baby, and swap items in and out occasionally. I used a shoe box and put in several small things like a deck of cards, small board book, measuring spoons, toy necklace, toy car, small doll, etc. Most of the stuff was just whatever I found around the house, but I might occasionally buy a new toy, too.

You might want to consider getting an Aquadoodle. It has a water-filled pen, so there's no mess, but it allows the child to draw all over the mat. When the mat dries, they can start over. That was a wonderful purchase when my oldest was about 18 months old.

Have you tried play-doh yet? I've found that play-doh in the high chair (or at the kitchen table) can be great for keeping a toddler close but occupied while I make dinner.

Another thing my youngest really likes to do while I work in the kitchen is play with water. When he was a few months younger, I'd put him in the high chair and pour some water into the tray. Then, I'd give him a cup or a spoon to splash around in it. Sometimes, I'd put an ice cube into a cup and let him play with that (while watching carefully that he didn't put the whole thing in his mouth, of course). When he got a little older, he liked to stand on a chair at the kitchen sink, and I'd turn on a slow stream of water from the faucet for him to play in. Yes, it's a little messy, but it's just water.

Do you have any good toddler CDs or anything that your little one likes to dance to? That's something else that has kept my kids occupied for longer periods of time. I interact and dance around with them while I clean, but I can still get stuff done.

If you're taking care of the baby, let your toddler take care of his own baby -- feeding, diapering, etc. And don't worry if he tries to nurse his own baby, too. :-)

If you're doing housework, let your toddler help as much as possible. I know he's little, but he can use a dustcloth, push a toy mop/vacuum, use a wet washcloth to wipe a table/counter, etc. My 20-month-old likes to help unload silverware from the dishwasher and put laundry into the washer/dryer.

Finally, accept that the cleanliness of your house may not be up to your standards for a little while. I now have three kids under the age of 6, and my house definitely doesn't look the way I want it to, but it's worth it to spend more time with my kids and less on housework. My husband jokes about a "10-year plan" -- in 10 years, the kids will be old enough to keep up the house a little better. In the meantime, we'll just keep doing the best we can, but try not to stress about it. :-)

How to create a homemade toy for toddlers?

Grace

I am trying to create a homemade toy for my toddler. I am a stay at home mom of twin girls. They show that they are tired of playing with the same toys and so my husband and I thought it'll be a good idea if I came up w/a homemade toy. But, Im stuck.
Please help me.

We'd like it to have a meaningful concept as well as it being safe. Dont' want pieces to easily come off and find them in their mouths!

Help! Should I quit my Montessori teaching job?

Cathy

I graduated high school spring of 2013 and immediately began studying for my Montessori certification. My mom was a Montessori teacher so I've always wanted to. I worked as a teaching assistant for four months at a Montessori school before I moved and the commute became too long. I floundered for a couple weeks and then was so fortunate to find a position as a toddler assistant at another school (that's my favorite age and the age I am studying to work with). I've worked there for about five days now.

The staff are very sweet and I feel like I'm joining a team or a family, which is nice, and I love the kids. But there are a lot of problems. The teachers all got their Montessori certification through a distance learning program that's not affiliated with the AMI or AMS. There are 24 toddlers, and the classroom has lots of bright colors, cutesy plastic toys, and florescent lights which is counter to traditional Montessori – my last classrooms were calm, peaceful environments with wood and wicker, pets and plants, and natural light. The children aren't encouraged to help put on their own shoes or coats, pass out snack, or pour their own milk (even the older two-year-olds). The work mats are crazy rainbow designs, the tables are primary tables (far too big), the water table isn't monitored so they are constantly dumping water and drinking out of each other's cups. The children have not been properly introduced to the classroom structure and materials and so chaos reigns supreme, it is exhausting. The lead teacher seems to just be coming in every day for the paycheck. Despite what the handbook mandates, the kids do not wash their hands ONCE throughout the entire day – not at diaper time nor meal time, presumably because the teacher is just interested in getting everything over as soon as possible. Don't get me started on the lunches! They eat cheap cafeteria food (pizza and tater tots, etc) in a cafeteria, instead of healthy home-brought lunches in small toddler tables like I'm used to.

My mom, who stays home with my 15-month brother creating a small Montessori environment with him, has just been asked to nanny another baby in our home. She has said that if I would stay home with her, she would open a very small in-home Montessori school and I could take on a few little ones. We could do everything in true Montessori ways and I could learn from her, she has a Master's in Montessori and lots of experience, instead of from some dull teacher who treats it like a daycare.

The problem is that the staff at this school really wants me, and really hope I can contribute with my experience. But I fear there is just too many problems, a basic difference in vision for a school. I am also very worried about how bad it would look to have quit two separate toddler teaching jobs in a matter of months.

The next step for me, after I finish my Montessori training, is to move to a large city where my boyfriend and some of my family is, and be a Montessori nanny. So it seems like staying home with a small in-home Montessori nannying service would serve my interests best in the long-term anyway.

What do you think?

Answer
I think you come across as inflexible and righteous. If you don't learn to be more accepting, you may find you are going to have a hard time in life.

You don't mention where you live. I live in a upper middle class area where home prices easily top $1M. I don't have children. Some friend's children have attended Montessori pre-schools, but none have used it for elementary schools. If there was a community that would embrace the Montessori philosophy, I would think it would be mine (or like mine). But I have never known anyone who had a Montessori nanny or even heard of one. Are you sure there are even enough of these types of jobs that you can get one?

Which of these reviews makes you want to buy one more?-

"Once at McDonalds I found some really some really cool elements from the McDonalds toy and then decided to join Skylanders. A couple of months later my mom bought me Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure. I buy the games for challenge and fun. I like the heroic challenges [and] I think Spyro and Flameslinger won a heroic challenge. Didn't you know that the series lightcores work with Spyro's adventure? There's some kind of glitch or something going with Spyro's adventure that lets you use the lightcores. And the series 2 works with Spyro's adventure because it works with Giants and Spyro's adventure because it's series 2. If you like portals, frozen figures, and challenge and fun then Skylanders [Spyro's adventure]. It's really cool. P.S., coming this fall in 2013 is Skylander's S.W.A.P force with over 200 and something S.W.A.P abilites. Now coming is our lightcore Skylanders for S.W.A.P force-Lightcore Warnado and lightcore Smolderdash, the first female Skylander that is a fire elemental. Peace!"

and review 2-

"Kid Icarus: Uprising has been already rated very high by very pro players and game companies. The game is a high-speed action, shooter, and adventure game. The game itself is just great because it has 25 (Well, 26.) different unique levels each different from the last...sort of. Some say that the controls are difficult, but after a bit of training, it gets really easy. PvP is my favorite part of the game. I prefer to fight in teams, so Light vs Dark is definitely fun for me. My favorite weapons are the Saggitarius Bow, Beam Claws, Tiger Claws, Raptor Claws (I LOVE CLAWS!!), Laser Staff, Dark Pit Staff, Thanatos Staff, Gaol Blade, Samurai Blade, and Magnus Club. Although you may not know about these, you'll quickly learn just how powerful they truly are. If you have ever played Super Smash Bros. Brawl, then you know that Masahiro Sakurai (The director of the game) likes to think of the players, and knows not every player is the same. That's why each weapon is different. Some hit high, but have bad accuarcy. Others have high-side effect ratios, but move slowly. Some are just balanced, and aren't really paticularly good in ANY stat. With hilarious commentary, intense gameplay, and non-stop fun, Kid Icarus: Uprising is DEFEINETELY reccomended to any players who like a challenge. And even if you're not intense, the game allows you to set the levels on different intensities (From "Too easy" (Where you're pretty much invinisble.) to "Nothing Harder!" (The dead oppiosite, everything is trying to kill you...viciously.)), so you can test your boundries. The harder the level, the more hearts you get, which can be used to trade in for weapons. Stronger weapons are rewarded as well for players who are willing to take a risk. And, yes, there is risk. It requires hearts in order to increase the level of difficulty, so if you die, you lose a certain amount of hearts from the amount of risked. However, I promise you will quickly make a profit by raising the intensity. I hope you enjoy this game, I know I did."

These reviews were written off the top of the two writher's heads. I won't say who wrote them, so this is a fare, even match. Which one is better? Which game would you want to buy now (Even if you like one over the other, pretend you've never heard of any of them.)? Thanks :)

My daughter would much rather play with electronics in the entertainment center then with her toys?

Mom to 1 a

Does anyone have a child that likes to do this. She could care a less about the toys but she loves the electronics. She's 9.5 months old.

Answer
My kids played with the kitchen utensils instead of their toys. Always knew where they were, tho. She will outgrow it eventually.

moms and dads kids birthday question?

Horse Up

if you have a kid coming home with bad behavior, like not doing work, etc.... what do you do if her/his birthday is coming up? we have tried everything as far as discipline and still no improvement. she just doesn't wanna do her work. her birthday is next week and i dont think she should be rewarded with lots of toys and gifts. what would you do? she just doesn't listen and doesn't take us serious whats-so-ever. she is 10

Answer
Tell her in these words "You will not be having a birthday party! And I mean that! You better start behaving! You need to be more responsible! Take away her TV, computer, cell phone, and any electronics, or things that she is in love with, like her toys or games. Tell her to do her homework, do her chores, and go to bed! Tell her if she starts improving in her behavior and her grades get better, that she can have her electronics back, and she will have a birthday party. Who cares if the party is a little late, its still a party! If this doesn't work, don't give her electronics back, and don't give her a party! Make sure she doesn't have any friends over, or goes to a friends house. Make sure every single night she comes home, does her homework, and chores, and goes to bed by 8:30 until she starts behaving and starts getting better grades! Soon, she will get annoyed, and will want her stuff back, so she will be really good. Good Luck :)

They are pretty much the same in each shop, however every now and then, Toys'r'us, do some great deals with extra games so check out their web site regularly, otherwise try play.com and gamestation. But it is usually £179 with Wii sport.

where do they sell fire red and those sorts of games?

Well there are places you can try. I know some bookstores and resale shops that deal with video games will sometimes carry older video games. Out here we have a place called bookmans where they are a bookstore but also sell music, video games, videos as well as board games and old toys.

Would anybody recommend the Halo remote-controlled scorpion tank?

Tori Kuten

This toy is part of the Halo video game franchise and is manufactured by NKOK.

What are some good things and bad things you have to say about this toy?

Would you recommend it? if not, why?

Answer
Do not waste your $$$! The cannon barrel broke right away, the controller is cheap and hard to drive straight for an adult, let alone my son....uses alot of battery power as well. Over-proced junk!!

This toy is terrible. It does not drive straight. Because of that it is difficult to control, and no fun. Believe the other comments which say this product sucks.

bought two tanks - they worked once. The laser stopped working after one round. The remote for one tank operated the other tank at the same time. The laser concept is great, but it doesn't work. We returned both tanks. Toys R Us should not carry this product judging by the overwhelming negative reviews.

i purchased this for my son and right out of the box the controller wasn't working. i thought it was just a bad one. so, i exchanged it 2 days later. it lasted a day and the tread stopped working in forward direction. and it smells like smoke. total piece of JUNK! i'm getting my money back!

How can I get two toddler boys to share toys and play better together?

mommy06880

I currently babysit for a friend who has a two year old boy who is very laid back and calm. My son on the other hand (20 months) is super active and a little crazy. They both play pretty well together however, I am constantly having to stop the figthting over toys as soon as one picks it up the other wants it. I know I can not fully break them of this, they after all are toddlers but what can I do to help?

Answer
There are some age appropriate toys that have multiple sets of things, which they can both play with at the same time. Or a project that they both contribute to assembling...something big enough that they can work on it without getting in each other's space. May I suggest Place & Trace by Discovery Toys...a set of three separate puzzles geared to their age. Give each boy one puzzle with its 4 pieces. They can complete the puzzle, use it to cut out Play Doh, or even cut out cookie dough and bake cookies in fun dinosaur shapes or transportation or house pet (each puzzle has a different theme). Often, an open-ended toy will be played with in different ways by different kids. That's what you need to look for.

Need an age appropriate toy for 2 boy toddlers?

CrackerJac

I saw a big box of GI Joes at the dollar store but then I was thinking about the small parts and I wouldn't want my lil cousins to choke or get stabbed in the eye. So what would be some age appropriate toys?
4 minutes ago - 3 days left to answer.

Answer
I think that a good game to play with for a toddler is with puppets. I thought that these were hard to use but my husband recently bought some online and they were very easy to use and play with. My son he loved these puppets so much. My son convinced my husband to buy him a puppet theater and made a play for the whole family he has gotten very good with the puppets he and his friend are going to make a play next week in school too. I think it has been one of the best toys we have ever gotten my son. I leave you a link where my husband found the puppets they have a whole lot of them.

Cleaning cloth and plastic baby toys.?

too lady t

I was given some baby toys by a friend.

I understand that I can put the ones that are only plastic in the dishwasher, and that I can clean the ones that are only cloth in the washing machine.

But what about the toys that are both plastic and cloth? For example there are some ring-type rattles that have stuffed animals attached...what do I do with these? Or the cloth ones with plastic rings and crinkly parts? How do you ladies clean this type of toy?
Also, do you clean things from the store before you give them to your baby?
What temperature do you use in your delicate wash? Will "hot" melt anything?
Trust me, I'm not going to be a clean-freak mom! I don't believe in anti-bacterial everything for myself, and I don't for my (coming soon) son. I understand antibodies need to develop. Some websites suggest cleaning toys weekly! That is just nuts.

Answer
Well... as for the plastic, I actually don't like the dishwasher since mine doesn't get hot enough to really do any good, and the cleanser we have to use is a powder which can scratch the plastic (making it harder to disinfect.) What I do is wash by hand the first time, after that I use a lemon-juice/vinegar mixed with water solution and let it soak for a few hours, then dump and let dry.

For the cloth toys I use the delicate cycle on my washer. It works very well, and doesn't scratch any plastic that might be connected to it as well. Then line dry. However, if your machine may scratch the plastic, then you can put it in a pillow-case and tie the pillow-case shut or use a piece of cloth to tie it shut. This is what I used to do when I was growing up when things needed to be cleaned, and it worked well.

Word of warning though. Do NOT dry in the dryer. The heat cycle especially is damaging to toys. It's better to have the patience to line-dry them if possible. If you live in a slightly-moldy part of the country, then cool-fluff dry in the dryer.

I do try to clean things off from the store before giving them to my baby, but usually we've never really had to. Used things, always. Brand new... not so much.

Add: My washer, when we push delicate, uses cold water. What I find is that hot, while it's great for disinfecting, tends to warp some plastic doll's heads, their hair sort of melts, and stuffed animals with really soft coats, it burns and curls. Sometimes the washer won't do that, but the dryer does it notoriously. That's why I always air-dry.

My mom worked in a daycare and they washed all of the toys weekly. But in a situation like that, it's sort of needed. If you're having a cold or a flu circulate, then go around again and again, you've got to disinfect. *shrugs* When I go out, I use a lysol on the cart rather than one of those cart-cloth wraps. The reason? The flu is dangerous until they reach a certain body weight, and I don't want to do the flu-shot. (I do go out of my way to get a cart that's been sitting in the sun for a while at the back of the lot. So we walk a bit more... the sun kills most viruses naturally and then I don't have to do anything to the cart. Remember, shopping carts actually test higher for more bacteria and viruses than public toilet seats.)

We use a foam stuff called "Vicks First Defense" on the hands that protects against bacteria for up to 4 hours when we go out (nasty tasting too.) But... my daughter is small. >3% of the population small. If she gets real sick and doesn't eat, she doesn't have much weight to fall back on you know? She's had one minor cold, got over it faster than I did.

And I get a LOT of books from used stores. I just love them. Board books too, even though she chews on them. I just leave them out in the sun after wiping them down to remove any crud on them.

At home, I don't disinfect. Unless it's like that circulating cold. :P But there's overly disinfecting, and then there's going too loose, and there's a comfortable medium. I think every mother has to find it. My friend, her son has major health issues so she's far more careful about exposing him to things. Me? I think nothing of popping a sample of pre-cut cantaloupe when we were in the grocery store today. She LOVED it. :)

Sorry for rambling, obviously tired... I did find one thing though. We have a book with crinkles, plastic toys, and a squeaker inside. I've washed it a few times. The only problem I've run into is sometimes the squeaker gets waterlogged and you have to squeak-squirt the water out inside of the book. The crinkles have never been affected.

WTF is up with bilingual baby toys?

Due Feb 25

I have a 9 month old son and when I look for a new toy for him I notice that they speak Spanish AND sometimes French. I'm sorry, but this is America!! They are in OUR country and they need to speak English! I bet if we went to Mexico, Spain or any other country that speaks Spanish, that they don't have toys that teach their kids English!

I refuse to buy my son a toy that will speak Spanish to him. I don't care how cool it is. His first and ONLY language will be English. It's bad enough we have to press 1 for English when we call companies.

I had to rant. It's a pet peeve of mine that just gets my blood boiling.
Ok, maybe I should of said this another way. I can understand my son learning a second language later while he's in school. I had to take Spanish 1 in high school and I'm sure a course in a second language is still a requirement.

I just think that until a baby has mastered speaking English well, they shouldn't be confused with other languages.

Yes, I do have a college degree and I have traveled a lot and have lived in Europe three different times.

I'm 28 years old, so I am grown up. I just don't agree with baby toys teaching a second language when they don't know how to speak English yet.

Answer
WTF is up with baby toys that make noise at all? Why all the sudden, are wooden blocks and developmentally stimulating toys without buttons and music more expensive than the ones with? AS far as languages go...its not about making our children learn the language, it is about broadening their horizons in order to expand and encourage their minds to grow and strive to experience other cultures. It is also scientifically proven that children exposed to foreign languages at an early age have higher IQ's later in life than those who don't, but I personally believe that if you children are going to learn something worthwhile, it shouldn't come from a cartoon frog or a Disney DVD brandishing the name of a famous scientist.

Why do baby, toddler, and boys in general that are children like to play with toy cars?

DeeDarling

Why do they?

Answer
Because it's fun, same reason girls play with those toys.
But not all of them do. My 4 year old nephew has zero interest in cars, planes, trucks, etc, and rather prefers playing with Legos or art sets. On the other side of that coin, his sister who's 11 months younger, is a fanatic about hotwheels and shows no interest in dolls or art or legos.

Allowed any toy without parents placing a higher value on certain toys or pushing certain toys/play types based on gender (dolls are for girls, cars are for boys - that nonsense), children will play with whatever they like, and sometimes that doesn't fit in with the typical idea that boys naturally love cars and girls naturally love dolls and tea sets.

Children and Difficult Behaviour?

Q. How would you deal with these problems????

Every child misbehaves from time to time. This is always distressing to us as parents because we would all like to be perfect parents of perfect children!

There are many reasons for a child's misbehaviour, and many ways for parents to help the child improve. Difficult behaviour includes:

using bad language,
behaving aggressively or violently,
destroying property,
lying,
stealing,
refusing to cooperate with necessary tasks, such as getting dressed in the morning, going to bed at night or doing school work.

Answer
Bad language or verbal agression can be dealt with by simply sending the child away until they decide not to continue the undesirable behaviour. Most of my daughter's bad behaviour falls into this category. Children have a right to feel angry and to be upset but not to be aggressive or violent with it. If my daughter is having a tantrum or being rude or whining and has not responded to talking then she goes to her room until she is fit to be around people again. I don't get angry just say 'you can't behave like that when you are with other people. Please go and do it on your own.' This works and is an important lesson about social expectations.

Refusing to do things in the evening is easy to deal with - say after dinner it is either home work time or bed time - your choice. Make sure there is something he or she enjoys after the homework, a game or story so they do not want to miss it. Bedtime is a firm rule. If they really won't stay when you put them there get a lock for the door. If they bounce about and play remove the lightbulb. You will only have to do this once or twice - the message is quite clear. Refusing to do things in the morning before school is more difficult. My daughter watches TV before school, takes a toy to school and has a treat in her lunchbox. These things can be taken away one by one. If it is worse than that talk to the school. My friends som refused to get dressed and the school told her to put him in the car and get him there in his pyjamas - he did not do that again cos the other kids laughed at him and he could not go out and play.
With lying you need to reason a lot and tell stories about the boy who cried wolf and make up some where something bad happened because a child lied. We had this with my daughter and I had her toys act out a scene in which one toy said another toy did something naughty when it was the first toy. The second toy got in trouble and cried and my daughter comforted it and was really indignant. The toys were then not friends any more and the toy that lied was sad. She understood this. You also need to tell them clearly that they get in more trouble for lying about something. When they tell you they broke something they weren't meant to touch say 'Thank you for telling the truth. You will not have any pudding today for breaking that but you will still have your stories because you told the truth.'

Stealing and breaking things is often a sign of psychological problems because this is not normal naughtiness and the first thing to do is talk about it, have them make their toys act things out and try to find the cause and help them with it. If the behaviour continues when the problem is known - a new baby making them seek attantion any way they can or they have fallen out with a friend at school and feel very angry you need to reassure and listen and give them more attention but still give consequences as well as they need boundaries to feel protected and safe. I would punish with the loss of a treat and have a serious talk and the whole story/ acting things out with toys idea and then a more serious punishment and a firm warning that next time a favourite possession of theirs will be stolen or broken. Then I would do that.

That's my thoughts - I am sure many people would do things differently.

how do you think children should spend their free time?

michelle

Some people believe that children are given too much free time.they feel that this time should be used to do more school work . how do you think children should spend their free time?

Answer
It depends on the age of the child.
I think parents today over schedule their kids. Soccer, homework, karate, music lessons, etc. etc. etc.
Kids need to be kids. But that doesn't mean video games and TV, though. Books are good, and kids of most ages should be able to entertain themselves for a while with toys and games they play on their own.

What are the earlest tv shows you remember watching?

Just Askin

So many programs have come and gone around the world.

BQ1 What country do you live in?

BQ2 Have you ever been on television? Or in a movie?

Answer
Gulla Gulla Island - SCARRED ME! That yellow thing is freaky!
Rollie Pollie Ollie - I thought it was inanely boring even then.
House of Mouse - I liked it, it had cartoons and Disney.
The Weekenders - saw it at some point, it got canceled but I really liked it.
Seseme Street - not an avid watcher, but who hasn't seen this?
Dora the Explorer - sadly, this was more helpful for learning Spanish than anything.
Flintstones - Only sometimes, but I kind of thought it was bland. And Gazoo ANNOYED me.
Animaniacs - Still continues to be one of my favorites, I love the adult jokes I can now get.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - I liked the idea of Asian fighting styles, fun inplausability, and wisecracking jokers as the heroes wrapped up in one show. I'm still a Turtle girl, and even though I think it's a lot more corny now I love it.

Darkwing Duck - Disney's blend of wisecracking superheroes, trademark animals, and actually threatening villains (for the most part) with weapons and guns instead of dumb things. Sure, it had some dumb episodes, and the animation ranged from really good to choppy. But I still like it today, and that must mean something.

homemade dog toys

Answer
WARNING: If you turn your old socks into a dog toy, you're teaching your dog to find that smell and destroy the item. This will not do good things for your wardrobe. If you must use socks, go buy some new, super-cheap dollar store ones. Put a few pieces of dry dog food in the sock before you knot it, and the dog will understand what's his and what's yours.

What are top 10 family movies of the 90s?

Justin bieber/believe?

Belieber

Hi
i was wondering that Justin bieber wrote the album believe to the belibers?
Do u know any thing else about it?
Thank u

Answer
Justin Bieber did not write his album, Believe for his Beliebers. The title of the album goes out to people that believe in their dreams, believe in themselves and many more of what others believe in. There are several different types of songs on the album Believe that is dedicated to others such as Maria is about Mariah Yeater, Turn To You is dedicated to his mom Pattie Mallette, She Don't Like The Lights and Be Alright is for Selena Gomez. Justin Bieber did say that his song, Believe was dedicated to his Beliebers more than once. Justin Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun said On-Air with Ryan Seacrest on March 26th that Believe is dedicated to the Beliebers and Justin Bieber wrote the song on his birthday which makes the song even more special.

Was Justin Bieber arrested?

AimePlus1D

I heard that Justin Bieber was arrested for hitting a photographer after a date with Selena Gomez. My mom said it to me a while ago and I kept hearing it in school, but then I checked it up on the interent and the only result that came up was one like a month ago or something with him hitting a photographer with a bag. Don't leave nasty comments about me liking Justin Bieber or calling him gay, fag , etc. !! I hate that s**t cuz most people hate him cuz he's a guy that write songs about girls and he is automatically gay.. Sounds like a loada b***s*** if you ask me !

Answer
Justin Bieber is not arrested nor is going to be. Justin Bieber and girlfriend, Selena Gomez were walking out of a store while they were getting in the car. As Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez got into their car while getting ready to go somewhere they needed to be several photographers surrounded around his car taking photo's making so that Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez could not drive. Justin Bieber got out of his car to kindly tell the photographers to please get out of the way. As one photographer in particular was trying to start a conversation with Justin Bieber. The photographer that was trying to start a conversation with Justin Bieber insulted his girlfriend, Selena Gomez asking how she got the herpes on her lip which was a cut. Justin Bieber got quite angry and intended to push him. You can get arrested if you were to throw something at them or hit them which would be known as assault but you can't get arrested for pushing someone especially if they do not fall onto the ground. The photographer should be the one to get arrested as since he was the one that was harassing Justin Bieber and his girlfriend Selena Gomez. Justin Bieber will not get arrested. If anything, he will be doing community service.

what do you consider a spoiled toddler?

how do you think this person made this homemade toys, and also please give me by step by step tips for budgies

Q. http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii121/tstmard/PHOT0022.jpg
i want to make it
and please tell me it buy step by step
make it easy im 11 :]

Answer
Quite simple idea & a good one at that~ especially for budgies. All you will need is some pure cotton rope (or you can use a sisal), small beads variety to thread(can be found at any craft store, or Michaels) & either popsicle sticks or if you are handy, you can use 1X2 pine wood, the coloring is simply food coloring & safe for your budgie.( I choose not to use coloring on any of my avian toys because my birds are all white, when the coloring gets wet, it stains alot of things) And the little bell should be ONLY stainless if you would like it to last & be safe for your bird(stay away from ZINC & lead) Also the tiny piece of metal in the bell should be removed & you can leave without or use a bead instead it will ring just the same( the tiny metals are junk, but also dangerous to many birds, if swallowed etc). This idea is quite easy IF you view the picture closely...Simply thread the beads on the cotton or sisal which will be multiple strands which come fom one area atop which is knotted with probably a stainless(or nickel) ring needed for hanging. Just knot the strands where beads stop/end...the cotton or sisal rope is thread thru a small hole of each wood slat carefully, then knot rope again & continue threading beads till rope length is full, then knot the ends leaving a very short tassle fray...always watch that toys do not become a danger to birds...always check for loose metals or frayed ropes/materials that a bird can get the talons caught in or wing, & such. Always view birds as if a young baby or toddler, doing so will keep them safe~
Have fun making little things for your feathered one~ Takecare~
Online there are many bird sites that offer toy making ideas...Wonderful neat things with everyday household items & baby toys, buliding blocks, leggo's ect.. pure pine wood or pvc are good items always, bird tend to chew~
Take care~

What ever happened to Bozo the clown?

pnut1980

I loved that show. I could totally of made the ping pong ball into the last bucket.

Answer
Bozo died in 1997 at the age of 75. His name was Bob Bell. I remember him, too - he was the epitome of what every clown should live up to.

Ronald McDonald vs Bozo The Clown?

seether_24

who would win in a fight?

Answer
Both have red hair and have to stay out of the sun so I'm picturing a dark alley at night. I have to say that Ronald McDonald is one scary dude. Bozo has the big hair and is by far more entertaining but I think Ronald would kick some major but in a fight (he has a way bigger posse with Grimace and the Hamburgerler and that bird chic and Bozo only had like one other clown).

Buying advice

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Ultrabooks are the higher end of Wintel laptops but they have some of the same concerns as Apple. They make it next to impossible to change any hardware in them. Service of them will have to be done by the manufacturers. With most of them, you can not change your own battery or hard drive. They are designed to catch your eye but they are not any more special then other laptops except for the fact that they are slim or thin. Your paying for it being thin and slim. For the money your going to spend on it you can buy a much better laptop with more power.

Tablets are just toys to me. They can not handle the work load like Laptops and Desktops and do not have the storage capacity you will end up needing.

Hybrids are the worse of the worse. The flip or detachable touch screens are just a disaster waiting to happen.

Never buy an All In One. They are far worst then laptops of any kind to service and they have a higher failure rate. My experience with them are limited because the few I worked on made me think they were designed in such a way as it would take a blow torch and a jack hammer just to disassemble them.

Choose wisely.

Can I download games from the Xbox marketplace to a standard USB flash drive?

Ross

I only have a 10GB hard drive for my xbox and want to download a new game but do not have space. Can i Download the game directly to a flash drive? and if to will it play off of said flash drive? Thanks in advance.

Answer
Yes you can! You will be given a storage option that says USB or hard drive(or memory unit)so choose USB and the game will download to the USB but keep in mind you will have to keep the USB plugged in at all times while playing the game.its very simple actually i use this method to have a backup minecraft world. But also know that not all USB will work well with the xbox you may expirence issues with a cheap USB so i reccomend the Sandisk flashdrive thats actually made for xbox (you can find it at toys r us or GameStop for about 20.00) if you can't find it though because it is rather old I'd get a standard Sandisk USB for best results. Now do work my friend...

Why does my cat talk to me?

Nicole C

So I got a cat about a month ago. She is about 4 months old and she is very shy around people. She is the exact opposite of shy around me and was like that even in the beginning. To give you an example she woke me up this morning by sitting on my chest and demanding that I pet her.

Anyway I've had cats before but she is the first I've ever had that actually talks to me. She isn't hungry or anything I'll just walk into the room and she will talk to me like I understand what she is saying. Its almost like she is telling me about her day or something. Some times I talk to her when she does it and she acts like we are having a conversation or something. Its not really annoying but I'm just curious if that's normal or anything. It seems a little odd.

Answer
Cat personalities are alot like human personalities. They're all different. I have a cat that does exactly that. To the point of irritating. When she doesn't get enough attention from you, she screams louder. When we have company over, she runs for the hills when they bring children and doesn't come out of hiding until they're gone. We have other cats in our house but for some reason, she has to scream to everyone else, "I'm the Mary!" The others don't act like her. She'll jump into your lap and put her tail up and into your face. Sometimes nudging her head under your hand to get the petting started. Yeah, she's a little hag but we love her. Not all cats require that much attention. I guess that's what they mean when they say your pets own you, not the other way around. Just like children, some can play by themselves and some need more attention. It's normal... just a new personality to get use to, that's all. Indulge her, but not overindulge her. You may need her as a smoke/fire alarm one day.

How do you sweet talk a cat?

Shay

there is this stray cat around neighborhood, and some times I feed it but only wat i can give it at a distance because the poor things scared of me how can I get the cat to become more comfortable with me

Answer
I feed some local stray and feral cats, and patience is the key to winning their trust. Some have taken just a few weeks to get used to me, but the more nervous ones have taken up to 6 months before I could pet them.

Next time you put out food, sit as close to the cat as they will allow and just talk nicely to them to get them used to the sound of your voice. Cats don't like prolonged eye contact as to them it means a challenge or threat, so when the cat looks in your direction, slowly blink your eyes a couple of times and look away. This signals to them that you are friendly and non-threatening. Over time as the cat becomes more comfortable in your presence, you will be able to gradually move the food dish a little closer until eventually it will eat next to you. If you have some pieces of chicken or some other tasty food treat, you can always lay a little trail of these so that the cat will approach you. When the cat gets used to eating next to you, extend your outstretched hand (palm down) to see if it will sniff it to get to become familiar with your scent. If the cat rubs up against your hand, then this is an invitiation for you to pet it.

The cat may have had no previous contact with humans, or perhaps had bad experiences with them in the past, so never try to rush the process. Winning the trust of a nervous cat is so rewarding, that it's worth being patient.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

whats that video with that cat who names every country?

Meana

I saw a video and there was his black cat and he was in front of a map and he was saying the name of every country there is, if anyone knows what I'm talking about please send me the link, it would make my evening. Thanks!

Answer
Search youtube for animaniacs nations of the world

It's the character Yakko Warner from the 90's show Animaniacs.

He doesn't name every single country though. But he comes really close. There's a long discussion about it on some of the videos posted.

He fails to name Wales and South Africa, as well as countries of the former Soviet Union. He adds the name of the Carribean sea, the only body of water he mentions, and names the continet Asia, after and somewhat run together with Bangladesh.

He calls Cambodia by a variation of its name, Kampuchia. He names the capital of Algeria instead of the country.

The Spanish Sahara is the territory now known as Western Sahara, under control of Morocco.

Germany used to be split into East Germany and West Germany but was reunited not many years before the video was made.

how to get cheap or free toy 2 lbs. yorkies?

where can i find one?
not like toys at toys r us but, the ones real dogs the ones that stay small and are called toy yorkies.

Answer
*rolling eyes*
They didn't actually think you meant a toy-toy; they are commenting on the fact that you're clearly not ready for a real dog.

Before you even think about bringing a dog into your home, you need to do some serious research. People who don't educate themselves before taking on a dog often end up dumping their poor pets in shelters. And from your post, it's clear that you're not educated about dogs.

Plus, if you're looking for "cheap" or "free" dogs, you probably don't have the money you need to have a dog. It's not just the initial shelter adoption cost (and I'm assuming that you're at least responsible enough to know not to buy a dog from a pet store or a backyard breeder), which will probably be anywhere from $100 to $300 per dog. Decent dog food is expensive, along with leashes, toys, beds, grooming supplies, treats... And the biggest expense of all-- vet care. You'll need at least several hundred for the first vet visits, and there are *always* unexpected emergencies like injuries or infections that can cost thousands. Whenever I see someone looking for a cheap dog, I just know that he/she isn't prepared for the realities of dog caregiving.

I suggest volunteering at a shelter so you can learn about dogs and dog care before you consider adopting.

What sort of ride on toy works for bigger than average toddlers? ?

heartlosta

Okay, my daughter will be 2 in December, and she loves ride on toys, however, she's way too tall for the ones she has, even a ride in car that's supposed to work until they are 4, because she's about 37 inches tall and almost 40 lbs already. Lol- I have the playskool push walker that turns into a ride on for her, and when she sits on it, her knees are past the front of it. So are there any small ride ons designed for little ones that she can use both in the house, and outside? We're thinking about her first bike, but she's really clumsy yet(grandma always calls her grace, lol, and that's not her name) and I'm afraid she'll be falling off or digging tracks in my carpet. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Answer
The prince lionheart wheelybug large sized. It is pricey but rides nicely. It is designed for kids ages 3-5, and weight up to 50lbs. My son who is an averaged sized nearly 8 year old ok his weight is slight 52 lbs, but he is 4'4 52 inches still rides this. It is like a scooter with wheels that turn in all directions. I like this so much I bought 2 for my sons ages 2 and 3 and 1 for my niece. They do roll nicely on carpet and are small and portable, and come fully assembled.

We have the cozy coupe too by little tikes, it does not accommodate my 52inch nearly 8 year old but would certainly fit a large 4 year old easily. We also have 2 of these.

Help me find a toddler ride on toy..?

Belle'smam

The one I am looking for is plastic, made for young children maybe 12months+. It is mostly pink and white, designed for girls. It has a basket on the front with a plush baby doll in it. I seen it at wal-mart a few months ago and thought it would make a great Easter gift for my almost 1 year old. Now that it is time to buy, I cannot find a trace of it anywhere. Do you know the name of the toy I'm looking for? Help, I'm running out of shopping time!

Answer
Try their website. They may have it listed and then you can buy on line through them or google it and see what other stores may have it.

It is a Taiwanese company try desperately to beat Japan out for quality. I know they are not real main stream yet, but they will be.

which are the best jigsaw puzzles and toys for 5 year olds?

bebu2025

Can any parent recommend some time tested puzzle that their kids have used and enjoyed and are suitable for 5 year old? also can anyone recommend good educational toys for kindergärtner or 5 yr old girl? I know there are plenty of websites but its so confusing and i have a common problem as many, my child looses interest very soon, so a good recommendation will help.
thanks.

Answer
Go to a thrift store and get toys there as they won't cost much and you can donate them back when your child is finished with them. You will often find great quality toys there. Take your child along and let him pick some that she likes. Kids of that age love to paiint and make playdough. You will find recipes online and you can make them with your daughter. I have not found that five year old kids like puzzles that much, but again, take your child to the store with you and let her pick something she likes. Don't forget books and board games.

How do you organize your child's toys?

Charis

I have a 2 year old girl and our living room is covered in toys! LOL I have a shelving unit with those fabric bins in the cubbies that I store some toys in. Other than that her puzzles, stuffed animals, Little people etc have no place but the living room floor! Also I find she really doesnt go into the bins that often to look for toys so they just sit in there. How do I organize her toys so she can see where they are and so theres a more neat appearance to my house?

Answer
Toy box & shelves in the kids rooms.

We keep NO toys (except for 2 kids chairs) in the living room. They are all in his room.

What are some good math/science activities to do with older toddlers?

Linzbr

Answer
Math:
-Using muffin tins for 1-to-1 correspondence with toys, placing one toy in each section.
-Working with nesting cups or nesting blocks while talking about size comparisons and height.
-Matching games with socks, cards, or sets of toys (For example, combine pieces from two shape sorters, and encourage children to find the pairs that match by shape and color.)
-Scooping and pouring with sand or dry rice, filling and emptying containers of various sizes and using scoops of various sizes.
-Working with unit blocks, talking about shapes as they play.
-Using flannel board pieces, puppets, or toys to add and remove pieces as you sing "5 Little Ducks" or "5 Little Monkeys".
-Using glue sticks and basic shapes cut from construction paper to make collages.
-Sorting sets of similar toys (such as trucks, rubber ducks, or balls) from smallest to largest.

Science:
-Playing with flashlights
-Painting with ice cubes tinted red, yellow, and blue with food coloring
-Exploring shadows outside on a sunny day
-Painting with water using large brushes outdoors on a warm day, and noticing as it dries
-Going for a walk to collect leaves, rocks, and/or other natural objects
-Observing grasshoppers, ladybugs, or other non-toxic insects in a bug box. (Provide leaves/twigs for cover and a damp cotton ball for moisture, and turn loose again after a few hours.)
-Exploring fresh fruits of veggies using senses. How does each look inside and out, feel, smell, taste?
-Blowing soap bubbles.
-Exploring materials with different textures (burlap, silk, terricloth, etc.) with hands and/or bare feet

Toys & games for a 6 month old boy?

amys728

I have a six month old son. He is a really happy baby. He's always smiles & laughs & all you really gotta do is barely look at him & say hi. He also loves to just stare & look around. Especially if we're outside or in a new place. He gets so fixated, observant & pays attention so much on everything going on around him. He is so good when I take him out in public b/c of this. I was wondering if anyone can suggest any good toys or games I can play with him that will help him developmentally? I just want to give him as much stimulation and enrichment as possible. He really likes to play w/ toys. But I just have really simple, non-learning type of toys right now, don't know what to buy. We talk to him constantly. I heard that helps. We've talked to him since he was born, like when we change him, feed him etc. Sometimes it's in baby talk & sometimes it's normal talk.

To sum it up, what toys are good for a 6 month old boy developmentally? Are there any games I can play with him to stimulate & enrich him?

Also, has anyone used the Baby Eistein DVDs? Do you think they really do any good or are they just hype? My son actually does like to watch t.v. alot, especially cartoon shows.
