Answer
i have been there..we went to dollartree one yr and bought my daughter all kinds of stuff they are all new and in packages and 1.00 cheaper than a thrift store..also i do know that toys for tots helps, the salvation army, and the united way. you need to get them on the lists asap to help also..i dont know if they have this or not where you are, but one yr i went to h&r block and i got a loan off my income tax in december i will be doing that this yr they start it on november 17th this monday maybe you should check into that. its like a line of credit off your income tax. you know come to think of it one yr my mom couldnt afford christmas for me and my brother and she went to rent a center and did a 1 week free thing and got us something there maybe you can get a playstation 3 from there and go to a game stop and buy a few cheap used games. if you need thanksgiving dinner check pantries in your area. the will be giving dinners away and also christmas dinners too. if you need a tree it is best to wait the week before to get it at a great price!! not from a tree lot but like from walmart or your local grocery..I have been there keep your head up and remember your boys love you and they will understand that this yr will be rough but i know better times will come for you and your family..may god bless and i will pray for you..

Angel Tree-The Salvation Armyâs Angel Tree program provides new clothing or toys for children of needy families, with angel treeâs often found in high-traffic areas such as malls, churches and corporations. Each tree is decorated with numbered paper angel tags with the first name, age and gender of a child who will receive the gift. To sponsor a child from the Angel Tree, simply remove one or more tags from the tree and purchase appropriate gifts for the child or children described on the tags. The organization displaying the Angel Tree is also the collection point or drop-off location for all gifts.

Toys for Tots- The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program helps needy children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; playing an active role in collecting and delivering a shiny new toy at Christmas. Local toy collection campaigns begin in October and last until December 22, with toy deliveries normally taking place on December 23 and 24. Community members drop new, unwrapped toys at toys for tots locations, which are collection boxes positioned in local businesses. These toys are stored in warehouses, sorted by age and gender, and then delivered to needy children at Christmastime.

Operation Christmas Child- Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to needy children around the world through shoe boxes or small plastic containers filled with unwrapped toys, school supplies, candy and other gifts, then shipped to needy children overseas with a personal note included. Suggested gift ideas include toys like small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, and toys that light up and/or make noise. Christmas gifts of pencils, pens, crayons, markers, coloring books and other art supplies are encouraged, as are gifts of toothbrushes, toothpaste, bar soap, and other personal care, hygiene items.

Make a Wish Foundation- You can make this holiday season special for children dealing with life-threatening medical conditions and illnesses by your generous donations to the Make a Wish Foundation of America Adopt-A-Wish program, thus helping a childâs dream come true. Make a Wishâs unique holiday donation options help grant the wishes of children, creating special memories for the wish child and family. Those who adopt a wish by making a donation are provided a unique and special story of how your donation bought joy to a wish child.

My Two Front Teeth- My Two Front Teeth is a non-profit, charity organization that provides donated toys to underprivileged children in daycare, preschools and community agencies. You can donate toys online; just sign up to receive an email notification prior to the holiday season, choose a child to sponsor and purchase and donate toys to children in need via My Two Front Teeth. My Two Front Teeth offers a personalized, online gift-giving experience to aid underprivileged children. Children are selected through community organizations and allowed to individually pick their one holiday wish.

The Christmas holiday season is fast approaching, so start an annual tradition of charitable giving, donating toys and other items to needy children and families. Setting the right example and role-modeling heartfelt giving, volunteering to help serve holiday meals in shelters or soup kitchens for the homeless, children are less likely to grow up with a serious case of entitlement and will have better appreciation and gratitude for what parents have done for them throughout the years.

Kids and toys?

mrjts

I have one daughter age of 7 and one step-son he is 10 and they both are always fighting over toys. how can I teach them to share?

Answer
1.Tell them about the poor kids who wish they had these toys!
2.Let them play with the toys at different times!
3.Take their toys away until they learn to share!
4.Show them how it feels when someone refuses to share with them
Example:Go buy something like a toy that both of them wants and say it yours and when they ask to play with it you say so you want me to share?( Then they are suppose to say yes)(they may not but if they do)!You say no im not sharing my toy! Then if they ask why then say becasue you guys dont know how to share! Then ask them how they felt when you said that you are not sharing your toy! Then say well thats how each of yall feel when yall dont share you make a person sad because ou wont share! If this doesnt work sorry with my kids it did!

Why blame McDonalds for giving away kids toys?

Dr Skipper

Almost every fast food restaurant nowadays have kids toys! They're just cute. I never went to McDonald's for the toys even as a kid...i went because it tastes good!
omg I still have a toy from McD's from when I was LITTLE and it still functions perfectly. It's a little videogame where you're a monkey and you have to catch all of the bananas. :D I had a stuffed animal monkey and when I was little I played that game as a way to "feed" him by catching the bananas for him <3

Answer
I agree, so what if McDonald is giving away toys, a lot of other fast food places do that too. Also in the end toy or no toy it is the parents who take their kids to McDonald and orders the food. Now in my opinion there is nothing wrong with eating fast food every once in a while but it shouldn't be an everyday thing. It's common sense to know that fast food isn't good for you and that if you eat that stuff (especially three times a day) you're going to gain weight. Just like in the move Super Size Me. Basically the toy is just an extra treat so to speak, something the kids can play with while they are eating or after they are done eating. Besides they already offer healthier foods too so you get to choose. Either way the toy isn't to blame.

toddler toys are their favorites?

What is your toddler "boys" favorite toys and are worth the money?

Answer
My 2 1/2 year old is absolutely in love with Diego. (It has been a life saver in so many areas! We did his room entirely in Diego, and it actually helped him transition from his crib to the toddler bed with no problems. Anytime he doesn't want to go to bed we just get him excited about his Diego bed!)For Christmas we bought him the big rescue center and his grandpa got him a different one. We can now just buy him the extra animals that go with it when we want to get him a new toy. He gets so excited about these! He takes the animals with him every time we go somewhere that he might get bored, including restaurants. They make a little case specifically for them.

As for other toys that have been worth the money, he likes any form of toy car. He has everything from hotwheels to tonka trucks. I love watching him dig through his toy box and picking out all of the cars (no matter what size) so he can play with them together. He also loves animals (part of this stems from his love of Diego) and dinosaurs. We bought him the little packs of 50 animals and 50 dinosaurs for about $2.88 at walmart and these have been amazing! He can sit there and make each animal noise (again learned mostly from Diego) and he loves to make the dinosaurs roar.

The best toys to get for your son are whatever suits his personality. If he has a tv show that he loves, get toys that are related to that. For my son it not only ensures that he plays with them, but it also makes him get more into the educational shows. He's learning spanish, animal noises, and counting way before I thought he'd ever learn it. The only things that I really try not to waste my money on are toys like leapfrog and baby einstien. He's never really gotten that into them, as there is nothing in them that he can relate to. I've known several people who spent alot of money on these things for their kids to never touch them. I know they are supposed to be very educational, but so far my son has learned more from the toys that you would think of as mere novelty.

Good luck!

Why do baby, toddler, and boys in general that are children like to play with toy cars?

DeeDarling

Why do they?

Answer
Because it's fun, same reason girls play with those toys.
But not all of them do. My 4 year old nephew has zero interest in cars, planes, trucks, etc, and rather prefers playing with Legos or art sets. On the other side of that coin, his sister who's 11 months younger, is a fanatic about hotwheels and shows no interest in dolls or art or legos.

Allowed any toy without parents placing a higher value on certain toys or pushing certain toys/play types based on gender (dolls are for girls, cars are for boys - that nonsense), children will play with whatever they like, and sometimes that doesn't fit in with the typical idea that boys naturally love cars and girls naturally love dolls and tea sets.

Kitten wont stop biting or clawing HELP!?

Zel Tokumo

I have had this kitten several months now, I have tried everything the vet and the pet stores have suggested doing.
I have given him more toys
I have given him more attention
I have tried a spray bottle
I have tried clipping his nails
I have tried the anti clawing and biting spray
NOTHING IS WORKING! he has seriously hurt me on several occasions, he has drawn blood and scratched me so bad I have had to get stitches, Today he bit a hole through my lip and I honestly don't know what to do, I know if I take him to a shelter he will be put down for being so aggressive, is there anything anyone can suggest I am at my whits end, I don't believe in declawing or filing down cats teeth i think its barbaric.
I said I was AGAINST declawing.... and please understand I cant just "deal" he is physically harming me, causing me to get stitches and severe cuts and bites.... he is 7 months old.

Answer
I applaud your decision to not de-claw. Even while you're in pain, very nice.

I have four cats. My newest female kitten liked to playfully bite or chew and sometimes grab with her claws on tender skin -- this lasted for a couple months. I was getting concerned, we don't bite or claw in this cat family. I quickly told her (though not sure how much she understood) that this was unacceptable, none of the other cats do this. I tried a tactic that a dog trainer showed me a few years ago for my puppy, asserting your dominance. Your companions must know that you are the Alpha. Not the Master, that title holds no respect. But the Alpha.
Every animal family has an Alpha and to become the Alpha, you must set an example of dominance. For large dogs I was told to (if safe, not an aggressive animal) have the animal (I used this on the kitten) lay flat on the ground, not painfully, just holding her steady so she couldn't stand up, and lay on top of them. Obviously, this is a kitten and you should not put any pressure or weight on her. But lay your body against and on top of her own, maybe holding paws so you don't get hurt. Do this very gently, don't apply a lot of pressure at all, you're getting a point across not harming. Stay there for a few seconds at a time. When she gets feisty and starts grabbing with her claws while you hold her, immediately and gently lay her down, hold her paws for your protection, and be the top dog. You may choose to gently (always gentle, trust is important) scruff her neck like her mother would do if she were to misbehave in her litter.
My kitten would still want to get rough and tag me with her nails, and every time she did, successful or not, I grabbed both paws and held them, spoke softly and petted her gently. She learned quickly that this behavior wasn't acceptable and she wouldn't gain anything by it. Not my blood, my anger, nor my fear. Eventually she stopped. Now this is a kitten I can piss off repeatedly and at most she will gently, with claws retracted bat at me.
The key is if they love, trust and respect you - they wouldn't want to harm you. Some animals play rough, but just the same way, calm them down, hold them and show them that you're the boss. If you can't or aren't willing to risk your body by laying (gently) on her, grab up those paws and just hold her so she can't get loose, never hurting though. I always told mine, "gentle paws, gentle paws" and now she's fine.
It takes time. And patience. And love and kindness and a lot of trust. Always remember, your cat is an eighth your size, and that can be scary and intimidating. Shouting can be scary as well as spanking, that can be traumatizing and lead your cat to never trust you again. Just show him patience and kindness.
Maybe sit in a room with him and make him focus attention on you, just repeatedly bring him down a notch so he can't harm you. if this is an out of control biting and clawing cat, measures may be a little more drastic. Try socks, slip little socks onto those paws while you interact. This could either help you or just annoy your cat.
He could be acting this way for any number of reasons. Maybe he's scared of you and feels that he must defend himself, or just unsure of people in general. His heart can still be won. Just remember how hard it is for you to communicate to him what you want, it's that hard or harder for him to tell you what HE wants. Also, nail clipping can be unpleasant for both parties involved. You should just get a scratching post or emory board or something similar for him to scratch, it's his natural instinct to scratch and clipping nails doesn't actually do very much, they actually lose the entire nail periodically as new ones grow in and clipping probably doesn't make his scratches hurt any less but I can promise you it probably scares the hell out of him.
Just always keep your patience and your kindness. This is an animal with free will, ruled by no one. Should he grow to love you it could be a beautiful thing.
i've had dogs and cats, but no dog was as loyal as my felines.

Zoo Animal Toy Ideas?

Eva

So I'm an intern at the zoo and one of the projects that I have to do is make a creative toy/enrichment item (something they will find entertaining) to give to one of the animals I work with. I really want to make an impressive toy but so far my mind has been drawing a blank about what to give them. Here's a little bit of info about each of the animals I work with:

Polar bear: her current toys are thick plastic blocks (think giant ice cubes), balls, burlap sacks, thick ropes, and thick plastic rings. She really likes peanut butter, honey, yams, and obviously meat. Sometime we will give her pine cones covered in honey and she loves them. She has a large pool in her exhibit and also a large grassy area. There really are no limitations in terms of the material the toy I can make her. During christmas she gets christmas trees to tear up. The toy can be something intricate to hide food in that she can mess with.

Lions: they really like soccer sized balls. They also have large pieces of wood to chew on. They can't have anything made of thin plastic or fabric. I was thinking maybe something with feathers to attract them but I couldn't think of what.

Baboons: they love ripping open boxes! Everyday their food is hidden in boxes for them to find and open. I was hoping to make some sort of intricate puzzle box for them to figure out but I'm open to suggestions as to what the design should be. They also like picking things out of holes, in their exhibit there is a giant tree stump with holes drilled into it and they like picking food out of it. Basically they would enjoy any type of toy a five year old or younger would enjoy.

Anteater: they like ripping things apart with their long claws. They don't really have any actual toys besides pieces of wood that they tear apart. They also like oranges because they can rip them apart too.

Andean bears: pretty much will get into anything. They have some sticks and pastic balls to play with but I think they could really use more interesting toys.

Tapir: doesn't have any toys. He likes veggies and swimming in his exhibit pool. Can nudge around at things with his nose pretty well.

Capybara: Not really sure what they guys might like. They are pretty shy. I know they like the water though.

Any suggestions for any or all of these animls would be great. If I like your idea I might just make it and be able to give it to them, and then I can let you know what they do with it. Thank you!!!

Answer
Polar Bear:
How about diving rings? You know the ones they make as pool toys for little kids? They might be a little small though, so maybe you can make it out of something else...bike tires maybe?

Lions:
I'm stumped. Perhaps food animals with the fur/feathers still on?

Baboons:
Wrap food in progressively bigger boxes. Get a small-ish box and wrap it in gift wrap. Put that box in a slightly bigger box, then a slightly bigger box...you see? They'll open a box expecting food and get another box.

Alternatively, as you pack the boxes together, you can squeeze food in around them. So, they open a box, get a little treat and another box...open that box a little treat and another box...

That will work for the anteater and Andean bear too. They can rip through the layers.

Try big cardboard boxes for the tapir and capybara. Big enough for them to get into. Put food in and around them, and cut holes as windows. Works for rabbits, cats and hamsters. LOL!

Kids and electronic learning toys?

New Mommy!

I have a 2.5 year old boy who loves to play with my phone. I have downloaded several apps on my phone specifically for him to use. He knows how to unlock my phone and put the apps he wants to play with, mainly they are numbers, letters, shapes, etc.

I am considering getting him the Leap Pad or the Innotab from Vtech for Christmas, but am not sure which one yet. I have considered buying a tablet for the family and downloading apps to help the learning process. I have tried to sit with him and teach him with books, blocks, cards, etc and he pays far more attention to the electronic type devices and is learning new stuff everyday.

I know some parents that have ipads and let their children use them, but they are too expensive to let a toddler play with in my opinion.

Do any of you have anything similar with your children or what would you recommend?

Answer
Get the new Leap Pad. My daughter has the Explorer and they take the same cartridges and they are absolutely wonderful for learning. My daughter is only 3 and at the 4th grade level.

Childrens toy shopping?

Crys

I went to Wal Mart today, browsed the toy aisle a little.
I've been wanting to get my children (Ages 1,3,4) Vtech type of toys, or fun learning toys. I found a Fisher Price toy that sings the Abcs, numbers, and songs. I'm thinking about getting it.
Also, the electronic books that read to you, for when I'm busy and I can't read to them.

I want to get these, because my oldest loves to read, or have people read to him. And, they play with my one year olds toys, so I'm thinking about getting them the book, and some "fun, exciting" toys, and getting her (one year old) the Fisher Price toy.. so when they get bored with their toys, they can play with that one to. I think they would like it, but I don't know if it's the best idea.
What do you think? I want to get them some fun, learning toys, so that they can learn as they listen.
Like I said, they play with my daughters toys. She has a Vtech helicopter and blender, they play with it more than she does. So, I think they would enjoy it. But I would like to get something they really enjoy, which is why I'm thinking of getting that for her, they'll end up playing with it, I'm sure.

Answer
I think those are all great ideas and very well thought of. Just don't skimp out or forget the simple stuff.

I found that my kids also like to play with the most odd and simple toys. I buy them mostly educational toys that I sit down and play with them but they are uber excited to play with a simple empty soda bottle. So I like to buy them a few educational toys and a few simpler ones.

My 2 year old daughter's favorite toy is a small sesame street "Oscar the grouch" toy that does not do anything. It is simply made for her to hold. She loves that thing and totes it everywhere!! It only cost a couple of bucks but it has made such joy in her short life so far.

gt bmx #s how to read and identify ?

ratt

how do i read gt serial #s??

Answer
Well, I guess you should know something about bicycle serial numbers.

These numbers are PRODUCTION numbers used by the framebuilding factory to identify each frame. They mean nothing with regards to the model or even the brand of bike they are used with. The number immediately before or after yours might have been another type and brand of bike altogether. The only thing you can learn is the factory where the frame was built, the year it was built, and the position in the production line of the frame during the year (or month or day, depending on the frame maker). Say your frame number is something like BO5000234. This would indicate that it was made by Boan Bicycle Company in China, in 2005, and it was the 234th one made during that production run.

So, I can't really tell anything from the number unless you provide it, then I can only fathom an educated guess.

What Do The Mean By Mass Produced?

IV is now

I know what mass production means but what does Mass Produced mean?

Is it the same thing?

Mass produced like a Mass Produced Bicycle.

Or a Mass Produced Plane

ect.

Thanks!

Answer
Typically things that are mass produced are made on production line, also known as, an assembly line. Mass Production versus Mass Produced is simply a different tense. One is present tense and the other past tense. They both mean the same thing, standardized production of a product.

Are there any 'fix it' toys for toddlers?

Q. I don't mean a tool belt or a tool bench, but actual toys that need 'fixed'.
I came across a John Deere tractor that had a screwdriver and another tool stored in the top. The truck would 'break' and ask you to 'fix' something, requiring the child to pretend to 'fix' it.
While the Amazon reviews all said the toy was great, nearly all of them said it broke way too easily. Do you know of,or have any toy that will let my son 'fix it'.
Sorry Maggie, My toddler simply must be smarter than yours.

Answer
A toddler (defined as age 12-24 months old) doesn't have the cognitive development to understand preforming multiple actions to cause a reaction. Do you mean a two year old or three year old?

I don't have any children myself. I'm a Toddler Teacher educated in the development of children ages 6 weeks to 4 years. A child discovers cause and effect as a toddler. Push a button, the car moves forward. If the car is "off" and they push the button and nothing happens, a toddler typically won't troubleshoot the car by turning it "on" or opening the battery case (if it is accessible). Now, they may go to play with the on/off switch, turn it on, and hit the button again and the car moves forward but they haven't really grasped the concept.
I've also had many parents of two-year-olds tell me their child can count but that is a concept that children don't understand until they are three. Any two-year-old can learn to recite 1-10 but counting is the concept of a number representing an amount. When you have a two-year-old count 8 toys, they will mimic the motion of a finger pointing to each toy and recite the numbers 1-10 (or whatever numbers they know). The numbers they say won't end up matching the corresponding toy number and the child over counts/under counts the amount of toys.
I wish there was a test that easy to prefer for your kiddo and I wish you had given a more precise age. The "my toddler simply must be smarter than yours" statement isn't enough to convince me that your child is smarter than the hundreds of other children I have cared for.

Where should I put toddlers toys?

mememe

My husband, 2 year old daughter and I live in a one bedroom apartment. We have toys in the coat closet, walk in closet, kitchen, kitchen drawers and living room. There is no extra space to convert to a playroom, not even extra space in our living room to make a play corner. The only solution I can think of is to convert our dining area into a playroom. My husband and I work a lot, and have opposite schedules so we rarely eat together at the table. However, I we have a new dining room table I do not want to get rid of. Our dining room is not big enough to double as a dining/playroom either so I don't know what to do!! The main problem is that our dining room is right by the front door so it's one of the first things you can see when you walk in, and I would have to somehow move the table into our living room.
Is it worth sacrificing our only eating area so toys dont take over our entire apartment??

Answer
Since you already have toys in both closests would it be possible to condese your stuff to one and put some sheleves in the other and convert it to toy storage? You could put everything in bins and just pull out one or two at a time.
Or if you really don't use your dinning room can you find some low shelves to fit under the table? She's only 2 she won't mind having a "cave" to store her toys. You could put two shelves back to back under the table to add storage and keep it where it is now.

baby and kitten????

Hot_Mama_2

we got a kitten for my 4 yr old daughter but I also have a 4 month old baby. I am afraid that the kitten will scratch or nipple on the baby . should I be worried. the kitten loves to play with the babies toys. it has had all of its shots and seems to be friendly. any advice would be appreciated

Answer
Kelly, It's funny. I've had babies (now grown) and various animals, including cats. Back when the kids were small I heard the "old wives tales" and worried that my first-born daughter might be allergic to the four cats we had. She survived fine & now owns her own furry friends.

Now that I'm older, though, and raise Ragdolls, I look VERY hard at prospective owners that have children, especially babies, because I worry about the *Kitten's* welfare.

A toddler is apt to stumble over a kitten & hurt (maybe even kill) it. Beyond toddlerhood, a young child needs to be taught to be kind and gentle with a kitten or cat. As one person mentioned, her child abused the cat and it ended up scratching the child. The cat can hardly be blamed for this.

Anyway, these are things that should have been considered prior to adopting a kitten. Since you already have one, may I strongly advise you to teach your daughter how to handle a kitten. (My daughter was *always* good, my son was *horrid*!). Since the kitten is sociable, things should go well. I like that you're paying attention to their interaction - that's a great sign!

Cats and kittens will not harm your baby. Although some seem to have had the problem with the bottle nipple, I never ran into this when my children were small.

Good luck with your "babies" all 3 of them! :-)

Baby and toddler sharing a room, baby keeping toddler awake...?

ashleyfoof

I have a 7 month old and a 2 1/2 year old. They share the nursery. The 2 1/2 year old only just recently started sleeping in his own bed after having slept with us for his whole life. He now goes to bed in his own bed and sleeps all night. The 7 month old started sleeping through the night when he was 3 weeks old, but in the past month has started waking up in the middle of the night again. And this week has started staying up for hours and we can't get him to go back to sleep. I DON'T want to end up with sleeping issues with him like we had with his older brother. I was so excited because I finally had a baby that would willingly go to sleep in his crib and stay there. I felt like we did everything right and now he hates to sleep in his crib too. I'm so exhausted and frustrated being up for hours everynight. I know that the baby needs to learn how to put himself back to sleep, but we can't just let him cry at all because it keeps the toddler awake. I definitely don't want to move the toddler back to our room and ruin the progress we finally made with him. And I don't want the baby to ever get used to sleeping in our room.

Anybody have any suggestions?! We all need to start getting some sleep.

i was thinking about this recently since my kids will be sharing a room and they will be almost 2 years apart too. i never had issues of sleep with our son but time will tell with our next baby who will be here nov 24th. i suggest maybe staggering their bedtimes. maybe put the baby to bed first or your son to bed first and maybe when the baby wakes up, your son may not be in bed yet or he will be knocked out by the time the baby starts rying. also maybe get the infant a small stuffed toy to help him fall asleep too. this helped a lot when we weaned our son off his binkie at night. also maybe a warm bottle for the baby will him fall asleep better at night. but i know when the baby wakes up, you shouldnt pick him up and rock him. you have to let him figure it out on his own. because what you do wil shape is sleeping habits for a longtime to come. trust me, when he starts crying he'll figure out a way to get himself to sleep. i sued to always run to my sons crib when he would wake up and cry and rock him and pick him up and turn on the tv-anything. then i stopped. he took about 2 weeks of crying like a maniac in the middle of the night, but he eventuall soothed himself to sleep. we only dealt with this around the time we weaned him off his binkie though. he went straight into his big boy bed. as for the toddler, maybe you can make a little palet on the floor in your room. and if he gets up anytime in the night, go to your bed. or maybe he'll jsut need extra naps during the day.

Interview Babies R Us?

Q. Basically I have a group interview Monday at babies r us I'm looking for sites/help with interview questions/answers. I'm 19 just graduated high school a year ago leaving for navy in 6 months next never had a job/interview the job is off hours stock crew just looking for insight or experience

Answer
There is a free website you can join called glassdoor.com where most well known companies are listed and you can review i.e. interviews with questions, employee reviews pros and cons etc.Below is a few interviews shared by people who applied at Babies R Us and don't forget to review their website for I.e. do they have a credit card or bonus card, products sold, how long in business et.

I applied online and the process took a day - interviewed at Babies "R" Us in August 2013.

Interview Details â I filled out an application online and about a week later got a call for a group interview. There were about eight people including myself. They basically take you to the back room and have you introduce yourselves. You have to say your name, an adjective describing you, and why you want to work at Babies R Us. Then they give you building blocks, similar to legos, and have you come up with a toy idea with a small group. You present it in front of the managers saying what the name of the toy is, describe what it is and what age group would most likely use this toy. After both groups go, you have to go out and get item(s) to sell to the managers. I got a dress, shoes and a headband. You come back to the room and look over their return policy and Babies R Us credit card pamphlets. I'm not sure if this is for every Babies R Us, but at mine we had to trade with the person who was sitting 4 seats away from us and sell their item. We role played being a customer and a seller then went back to our seats. We then had to partner up and interview each other. After the interview, we had to introduce the other person to the group and managers. They left the room then came back about 6 minutes later and pulled two people, myself and another person, for a 1 on 1 interview with the hiring manager. She was friendly and told me I would get an email telling me if I got the job by Friday night (the interview was Thursday). The whole process took about 3 hours.
Interview Question â Name a time where you had to deal with a difficult person and how did you deal with it?What is your biggest accomplishment?

I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Babies "R" Us in May 2013.

Interview Details â Filled out an application online and was called a week later for an interview. HR was very polite and smiled a lot. She made me feel comfortable. It was a group interview. About 5 or 6 other people showed up. Store manager joined the group shortly after. He was very friendly also. I was a little intimidated at first but for the most part I realized that interacting, answering questions and showing interest and professionalism helped me stand out from the group. They have you do a group project, and then the one on one with either the HR or GM. It is a very lengthy process be prepared to be there for a whole day! I was hired on the spot

Does my baby have Prader Willi Syndrome?

hhawkins29

My daughter was born at 36 weeks and 6 days. She couldn't breathe and was rushed to the NICU an hour away. She was diagnosed w/ RDS (Respiratory Distress Syndrome), hypothyroidism, and hypotonia (low muscle tone). After getting rid of the RDS and Jaundice she still exhibited eating difficulties and was put on a feeding tube (gavage). After 25 days we left the hospital and returned home but not before the tested her for Prader Willi. We've had her home since the 4th of December and I feel as though she's blossomed a little. About a week of being home and she fed perfectly and was off her feeding tube. Since she's been born, she's gained almost two pounds and grown almost 2 inches (8 lb 11 oz and 21.5 inches at 7 weeks). Not knowing if she has Prader Willi is killing me and our genetic consult is not until May 2013. She is hardly floppy in my opinion, trying to constantly wiggle out of our arms, she bats at toys and has been turning her head from side to side during tummy time. She also is awake during the day and has a strong cry. She has large hands and feet as well. I mention all of these things because they're characteristics/mannerisms of the syndrome. What she does have in common is how her life began (low tone and difficulty eating) she also has beautiful almond shaped eyes and a narrow forehead. She is not yet mimicking faces or making long periods of eye contact either. This is my first child so I don't know really how a 7 week old is supposed to act, or if the delay in development could be due to her prematurity. Can anyone PLEASE help me? Don't get me wrong, I will love her to the ends of the earth either way, I just do not want her life to be more difficult than it already has and am dying not knowing.

Answer
A 7 week old baby who is, in gestational age, 3 weeks, is not expected to have hit much of any milestones.
Here is a link to a chart: http://www.babycenter.com/0_milestone-chart-1-to-6-months_1496585.bc

Mimicking faces is definitely not expected yet. Making eye contact, or at least being interested in faces, is. However, babies are born with pretty poor vision- they need your face to be fairly close in order for them to be able to make eye contact.

One thing I'll say about some of these milestones is that there are a lot of reasons for a kid to be slow with them. I don't know anybody with Prader-Willi, as far as I know, but I took care of my baby brother full time when he was a baby. He took a long time to pick up his head.... because he has a big head. I've got a number of friends with physical and not cognitive disabilities who missed some milestones because the physical issues made them harder to hit.

What are most interesting Lego Batman Toys for kids……?

Alex Margo

Answer
STAR WARS´s better!

Have you seen the batman figurines in Cheerios?

OldrNotwis

What is the purpose? I have this little batman figurine and the only thing that moves is his right arm, like he's trying to pound on something. I had a joker figurine and the only thing that moved was his leg, like he was trying to kick a ball.
RAWR - you sort of answer the question. There is some truth to what you say, but I was looking more for an answer specificly what the purpose of the figuring has. Why does one have just one leg that moves? Why does one just have an arm that moves?

Answer
im guessing so joker can kick batman and batman punch joker but yeah. Its really for kids to play with it. Thats it mostly . Toys. so kids will buy the cereal in order to play with batman and joker

Has anyone flown with a toddler?

lupa03

Especially lately with the new rules? We are taking an 7-8 hour plane trip cross country with my son who will have just turned 2 for the trip and was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions or tips for the plane ride? Things to keep them occupied? Ways to get the car seat through the airport? Can we bring our own juice cup and snacks with the new regulations? Any advice and wisdom is greatly appreciated!

Answer
I'm a former Flight Attendant and I fly a lot of long haul alone with my three kids.

We always bring a car seat. They sell gizmos which attach to seats to take through airports but save your money and use a small, foldable, metal luggage cart and an extra bungee cord to secure it in place. One trick I used to do is NOT bring a stroller and my toddler could sit in this contraption if she got tired.

If there are two of you traveling, one can pull the car seat and the other push the stroller. JFYI, here are some of the gadgets sold to help with this situation.

http://www.gogobabyz.com/products/gogo_kids.html
http://www.amazon.com/Traveling-Toddler-Attach-Rolling-Carry/dp/B000JHN3AS
http://www.onestepahead.com/product/osa/363756.html

You could also see if your stroller can transport the car seat. Try it at home and either wedge it into the seat or attach it to the back. Careful of tipping, especially with the latter.

Bravo for taking the car seat on board. You are smart to not check a car seat as luggage. The airlines lose and break them ALL THE TIME and it's too important a piece of safety equipment to leave it up to fate and baggage handlers. Bringing it on board means it gets to your destination with you, in good shape.

Instead of a diaper bag, use a backpack (or a backpack style diaper bag). This will free up your hands. You may want some sort of small bag for essentials. I don't take a purse when I fly.

For entertainment, get him a new toy, anything, and it doesn't have to be expensive. Keep it and give it to him once you're on the plane. I found that stickers, coloring stuff, simple plastic toys (like animals, cars, etc.) and books were better at occupying them at this age. No one will mind if you read to him.

Be sure to buy one or two new toys to give him at critical periods. One is when the plane is pushing back from the gate. Everyone has to be seated and this is tricky for toddlers. Hopefully the toy will keep him occupied, at least until you're in the air!

I actually don't recommend a portable DVD player *unless* he can watch it without sound. I doubt he'll wear the headphones at this age but you can try it at home. If you opt to bring it, make sure it either has a battery life of at least 5 hours or you have a second battery. Bring a recharger and an adapter in case of any delays.

Just some other small tips;
-Bring a change of clothes
-Bring way more diapers than you think you'll need
-Learn to change him standing up (don't try to fit him on one of those tiny baby changers and toddlers hate to lie down in strange places)
-Bring an empty sippy cup to fill during the services. This will prevent spills in the air.
-Get up and move around with him but keep an eye out. Those carts the F/A's use are the perfect height for hiding little ones
-Bring snacks. Don't fret security. I've never had anything taken away (yes, water but not snacks) and that's the only risk. If you have something not allowed, they simply remove the item. No scenes, no speeches, no arrests!
-Try to sit in a bulkhead seat so that there's no one in front of you
-Bring slippers for him, especially if you're not in the bulkhead!

Please shelve any potty training projects until you're on the ground again. Children understand this special situation and putting them back in diapers does not really upset the process. You can't always get a toddler to facilities when traveling and they don't give you a lot of notice. Don't risk an accident.

The 3oz. limit on liquids is not enforced for those flying with children and babies in most countries so bring what she needs. There are no specific food restrictions.

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/children/formula.shtm

It's actually a myth that they have to drink on take-off and landing. If he falls asleep on take-off, please don't unnecessarily wake him up!

The BEST way to avoid ear issues is to take your little guy to the doctor a few days before flying. My son was good at getting symptomless ear infections. Make sure yours' doesn't have one of those! The doctor will look in his ears and make sure they're clear and infection-free. Healthy ears can handle pressurization changes.

For more information, I wrote an article on this subject. It's based on both my personal and professional experience of flying with kids. It's totally non-commercial and other parents have contributed;

Have a good flight!

Can toddlers ride Toy Story Mania?

cutie249

My son is 2 and only 32" tall. My husband and I want to ride Toy Story Mania at California Adventure, but we want to ride it at the same time. Will my son be able to go on the ride with us or can you only do parent swap? I read online that they have parent swap, but I want to know if there is anyone who has taken their 2 year old on this ride.

Answer
As long as he can sit up by himself he can ride. Each vehicle side holds two people where each have their own lap bars. However, they will let you place an infant between the two of you effectively having your son share the lap bar with either you or your husband. Even with this you will still proabably have to hold him sometimes. If you do not want to do this you can do a rider switch. Just ask for a Switch Pass from the cast member at the entrance to the queue. One other thing to think about is if you do a switch and it is just the two of you, you may find it quicker to go through the Single Rider line(if they have it open). If they have the Single Rider line open you probably will get through faster twice than once in the regular line and returning with the switch pass.

Ideas on what to get a 16 mth old girl....?

firsttimem

Basically we are wanting to do some shopping when we get our tax check and wanted some ideas on what we can get our precious baby girl who is 16 mths old. She has a lot of stuff already, but I was curious if there was one special thing your toddler really likes or enjoys?
Thanks!!

Answer
My daughter is 16-months old, too! We own nearly every Fisher Price toy, so these are her favorites.

Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Learning Kitchen

Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Learning Home

My daughter loves her Little Mommy Newborn Doll

Anything Elmo... I don't know how I lived my whole life without hearing about that furry, little red monster but he's all she talks about now.

Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Say Please Tea Set (you have to buy it online, but it is totally worth it. My daughter plays with it non-stop!)

Fisher Price Little People Animal Sounds Farm

Books, cars (her father is a mechanic, so she inherited a love for cars!), videos...

Oh, we found her the cutest little tiny purse at Kmart and she loves it. She puts it up on her shoulder and tells me "Bye Bye" and stuffs it with all of her toy keys and cell phone.

That's all I can come up with off the top of my head. I hope that helps!

What are the cool toys for 7-8 year old girls?

janez1

I am buying Christmas gifts for 2 african american girls, ages 7 and 8, who are from a struggling family. hey are "girly, girls" and like dolls, arts, etc. What are the cool gifts for a girl this age? Also, they need shoes. What is "in" for 7-8 year old girls?

Answer
Well, what's in for that age group now is:
Hannah Montana and Disney stuff.
Zhu Zhu pets are VERY popular this year.
You could get some "Make your own bracelet" kits.

For shoes I'd go with a cute pair of sneakers, just anything pink or purple and girly.

Amazon have some, here - http://www.amazon.com/mn/search/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=Claw%20Crane%20Machine&linkCode=ur2&tag=softwaengin0d-20&url=search-alias%3Daps

What is the best way to win toys using a claw machine?

Blessings

Those claw machines are so frustrating. I just want to win, and I think there is a way to do it.

Answer
Make sure the claw closes all the way,do not play the claws with black rocks on the bottom(theyre magnetic and throw the claw off) and also be sure to grab the heaviest part of the prize because the top if most claws are stronger then the actual hooks or arms

If money were no issue, what would you buy your kids for Christmas? ?

Sheila

I would get the two youngest (4 yr olds) the Biscuit my lovin' pup, that awesome robotic dog. I would get the older two their dream guitar.

Answer
Boy oh boy I can think of tons of things. lol

1. My 7yr old son for years has been begging for a "car he can really drive" like they see at Toys R Us. But those things are over $300. As a family with 3 kids . . . well let's just say Santa would only bring him that. The livingroom would look bare on Christmas morning with just that car. lol

2. My 9yr old is begging for an American Girl doll like her friends have. Those dolls cost so much. Again with 3 kids we only can afford so much per child and one American Girl doll would eat up a lot! I don't see how parents afford those dolls. I know some families whose girls have more than one!

3. My 12yr old doesn't ask for much. (Is she really my child? lol) But she'd love all the Harry Potter books and movies. She's has said she'd love all the movies on DVD. She also wants an American Girl doll.

I personally would love a Wii. lol I'm into video games! So I'd share that with the kids too. ; )

At Christmas time when you were a little kid?

Beefcake

What was your biggest dissapointment in getting presents. Mine was getting clothes....no eight year old is looking forward to more clothes. I wanted toys. There were no electronic gizmos in my day, back in the 60's.

Answer
What turned out to have been my favorite present (of 14 years of celebrating), was taken away from me against my will, & replaced... I'd wanted a dog -- all us 4 kids wanted a dog. I was given a very cute, small, toy, terrier-type, real-looking dog, which barked at loud noises. It was 'love at first sight'! I even took it across the alley to show it to the elderly couple who lived there. Then, I put it in my room, & we went somewhere --I don't recall if it was to dinner, or what-- but, I went to my 'dog' first thing when we returned... It wouldn't bark. It never barked again. I didn't know if the batteries had been old, or I had left it on, or if it was broken, and I didn't care which! I loved my dog! But, Mom had the idea that it should be returned, & no amount of crying or pleading could change her mind. It went back into a bag & out the door with her... She returned with a much larger, homely, very slow-moving , robotic-walking, hound-looking dog. I was extremely broken-hearted! I didn't want to hurt Mom's feelings, so I walked it 1 or 2 times a year. Every time I walked past that 'hound', I mourned for my little fuzzy 'barkless' dog... ); What made it even worse was that it left me feeling that Mom didn't really care how I felt. );

Children's feelings do matter!
Don't ever think that they don't!

what are some nice crafts that I could make for christmas presents for family ?

brokenhear

we are very low on money this year, so I thought I could make some crafts for different people in my family, anyone have some idea's or some websites that I could use?

Answer
I like to make gell candles for each person. Real simple, looks nice and you can even color and/or sent the candle. Nice thing is you can personalize each candle. Put a small trinket inside the jar before you pour the wax...for example put a toy firetruck in it for the firefighter in your life, ect. Another good one is use cookie cutters into Christmas Tree ornaments.

What is this 80s toddler toy?

When I was young I used to have these toys that you could push together or play with alone...they did not use any kind of battery or anything like that. They were really similar in what they did to bendy straws. They expanded and contracted. they were probably about 3/4 of an inch in diameter. any ideas what they are?

toddler toy help?

my girl has a dol she takes every where even to timeout or to punishment.
what would be the funest and best way to stop this?

Answer
honestly, i don't think you can. toddlers sometimes have a "lovey" that they take everywhere. it's a comfort object, and helps them to feel safe and secure. it will pass over time, but it is doubtful that you will be able to make her get rid of the doll anytime soon without an all out war.

i've read some great articles about loveys in parents magazine. you can check out their website and probably look up those articles. hope this helps!

What was your baby checklist?

Kayla

this is my first pregnecy. What was your checklist? What did you use and what was a waste of money?

Answer
like newborn essentials? well here are the things that we got and use

List of Newborn essentials
Car seat and stroller
Diapers (we use Pampers Baby Dry and they work very good, no leakage) 1 box Newborn size, 2 boxes size 1, two boxes size 2, and 3 boxes size 3 (you donât want to overstock on diapers, because you never know how big the baby will be and how fast it will grow. Donât open boxes that you are not using, in case the baby grows out of a size, you can exchange unopened box for different size or brand , Walmart will let you do that for sure)
Wipes- I like the store brand ones like Babies R Us, Target, or Walmart
Onsies (otherwise known as bodysuits)- Newborn size pack of about 6 (for newborn I would recommend buying onsies long sleeved that cover the hands, so the baby doesnât scratch itself.)
Size 0-3 months about 6 onsies
Size 3-6 about 6-9 onsies
Pants (Walmart sells great pants, I think Gerber, that are cotton and skinny at the bottom, which is great, especially for a newborn baby, you can put socks over pants and layer with another set of clothes on top if it is cold, or for summer nights, these pants donât expose babyâs legs as much as regular pants do, which you donât want when it is cold)
Sweaters (couple heavier ones and couple light ones, preferable without a hood, hoods just donât seem comfortable for baby to lay on)
Pack of socks
Pack of hats
Couple going out outfits, but donât buy anything less than 0-3 months (Babies really do grow fast)
Receiving Blankets (get as much as you can) I use them as towels after giving baby a bath, swaddling, diaper changing cover, etc.
Swing
Bassinet (or just a crib) or playpen (some come with little bassinet for baby to sleep in and changing table, and also can be used instead of a crib when baby gets older)
Crib/Bassinet sheets
Bathtub- we use Fisher-Price Precious Whale and we like it so far, its lightweight, cheap, and has plenty of room for bigger baby (and can be used from newborn size)
Baby Shampoo and Body wash
Grooming Kit
Wash cloths
I would actually make a medicine kit-get fever reducing meds, gripe water (naturally calming) etc
Breastfeeding pillow
Nipple cream
Electric Breast Pump (with all the essentials like storage bags)
Bottles
Formula (just in case, get one can, we use Babies R Us Advantage, its comparable to Similac Advance but almost 50% cheaper and just as goodâ¦.we tried both)
Drying rack
Microwave sterilizer
Bottle warmer (very very useful if bottle feeding)
Formula Dispenser
Pacifiers (My son loves Avent, plus it comes with a cap so the pacifier stays clean)
Diaper Genie (I heard it was useless, well when my sonâs poo started smelling, it wasnât useless anymore!)
Thermometer if it doesnât come with the grooming kit, which it should
Diaper Bag (although a big purse with lots of pockets and compartments will do)
Toys (babies love toys that make noise, like rattles)
For later: High Chair, walker( or jumperoo or exercauser)
I think that covers most of it. Check out craigslist.com, you will find a lot of good products for much cheaper)

Answer
Here's a general list (from personal experience, every mom is different with different preferences)

List of Newborn essentials
-Car seat and stroller
-Diapers (Pampers Baby Dry work very good, no leakage, but if you want a cheaper alternative, Up and Up Target brand diapers are pretty good as well) 1 box Newborn size, 2 boxes size 1, two boxes size 2, and 3 boxes size 3 (you donât want to overstock on diapers, because you never know how big the baby will be and how fast it will grow. Donât open boxes that you are not using, in case the baby grows out of a size, you can exchange unopened box for different size or brand , Walmart will let you do that for sure)
-Wipes- I like the store brand ones like Babies R Us, Target, or Walmart
-Wipes Warmer- Especially if you will have a winter baby
-Onsies (otherwise known as bodysuits)- Newborn size pack of about 6 (for newborn I would recommend buying onsies long sleeved that cover the hands, so the baby doesnât scratch itself.)
Size 0-3 months about 6 onsies
Size 3-6 about 6-9 onsies
-Pants (Walmart sells great pants, I think they are Faded Glory, that are cotton and skinny at the bottom, which is great, especially for a newborn baby, you can put socks over pants and layer with another set of clothes on top if it is cold, or for summer nights, these pants donât expose babyâs legs as much as regular pants do, which you donât want when it is cold)
-Sweaters (couple heavier ones and couple light ones, preferable without a hood, hoods just donât seem comfortable for baby to lay on)
-Pack of socks
-Pack of hats
-Couple going out outfits, but donât buy anything less than 0-3 months (Babies really do grow fast)
-Receiving Blankets (get as much as you can) I use them as towels after giving baby a bath, swaddling, diaper changing cover, etc.
-Swing
-Bassinet (or just a crib) or playpen (some come with little bassinet for baby to sleep in and changing table, and also can be used instead of a crib when baby gets older)
-Crib/Bassinet sheets
-Bathtub- we use Fisher-Price Precious Whale and we like it so far, its lightweight, cheap, and has plenty of room for bigger baby (and can be used from newborn size)
-Baby Shampoo and Body wash
-Grooming Kit
-Wash cloths
-I would actually make a medicine kit-get fever reducing meds, gripe water (naturally calming) etc
-Humidifier (cool mist) or Vaporizer (warm mist)
-Breastfeeding pillow
-Nipple cream
-Electric Breast Pump (with all the essentials like storage bags)
-Bottles
-Formula (If bottle feeding)
-Bibs (preferably that have the closing tab on the side instead of the back, I found it was more comfortable for my baby)
-Drying rack
-Microwave sterilizer
-Bottle warmer (very very useful if bottle feeding)
-Formula Dispenser
-Pacifiers (My son loves Avent, plus it comes with a cap so the pacifier stays clean)
-Diaper Genie (I heard it was useless, well when my sonâs poo started smelling, it wasnât useless anymore!)
-Thermometer if it doesnât come with the grooming kit, which it should
-Diaper Bag (although a big purse with lots of pockets and compartments will do)
-Toys (babies love toys that make noise, like rattles)
