Compu Kidz Teach & Talk Activity Laptop (includes mouse) toy advertised and I wondered if...?

Oneida

...it is better than the one Amazon
I was trying to find a toy for my nephews. I can pay $75.00 for one and I have an option of buying a $89.00 Compu Kidz brand computer for $70.00 off regular price ($19.00 final price) at a department store in PA. I am trying to be serious so apparently I came to the wrong website for this question. (I love Amazon and came here on their suggestion.) Does someone know the answer to this question?

Answer
I bought them for my kids online from Goodys store. Being it was right before xmas, I paid 15 .00 each for them, plus a total of 10 .00 shipping. I was very excited to pick up such a "great deal" as Goodys suggested retail price on them was 60 .00 each. As soon as I opened them I knew I was ripped off... .They are flimsy, the battery covers are plastic and barely fit on properly, the graphics are reminiscent of the game "pong"....Dont get me wrong-Pong was amazing about 30 years ago when it first came out-but the compu-kidz laptops shouldnt go for more then 10 .00 at regular price. The sound is barely understandable. My daughter had asked santa for a "pink laptop"-and I was able to get this one in pink and one in blue as well-for my son. My daughter was thrilled to see the pink laptop when she opened it and the fact that it had the "mouse" made her even more excited-as it looked just like my laptop to her... .She loves it for that reason... .my son played with his a total of 10 minutes, and put it down forever. They both have Fisher price "Pixter" games
http://www. amazon .com/Fisher-Price-Toys-H4651-Multi-Media/dp/B0007XIE0I

and that is a really good system, but I had picked them up Blackj friday and paid 20 .00 each for them. Now the price is outrageous-and as good as the system is, it isnt THAT goood. I just bought them each a "leapster" game system and a number of game cartridges for their birthdays. That system is phenomenal, but it is pricey-especially if you need more then 1.

If you want something educational for your nephews, check out
http:// leapfrog .com/en/ shop .html

They have great games at decent prices-and you cant go wrong with anything on their site.

I also like the v-smile. Unfortunately, only the pink girls system is at rock bottom at 19 .00-I guess more boys are into the system.
http://www. toysrus .com/product/ index .jsp?productId=2661784
In addition to the system, you would be best off purchasing the ac adaptor instead of dealing with constantly replacing batteries-and since there is more then 1 child, you would need 1 extra joystick-about 15 .00-Mine came with 1 game, I’m not sure if it still does. I noticed on amazon reviews that some people felt the system didnt hold up well. I have a 4 and 5 year old-and they have been playing with theirs for 2 years now. I cant tell you how many times it has been knocked off the tv, and fought over, pulled, pushed and mistreated-and it is still going strong.

Last but definatley not least, a close friend of mine swears by the new fisher price smart cycle. She paid 89 .95 at Aldis b4 xmas. I am sure you can find it way cheaper then what amazon is asking....

http://www. amazon .com/dp/B000NWU9NI/ref=pd_sl_ya_flat-hi_q4bgbk_39865653_1

No matter what you decide, I strongly advise against the compu-kidz.. .it looks nice in the picture-but this is a case of where the looks are REALLY decieving.

My 3-year old son broke his leg two weeks ago, watched all our dvds, any ideas to keep him entertained?

goblueman1

He can't walk on it but scoots around on the floor okay.

Answer
Hmmm, I have a goood and cheap idea. it will keep him entertained for not 2 long, but it's interesting. It depends on the child's attention span. Get a large soda bottle. (not too big, a liter will be fine) and some rice. get some small toys that will fit in the mouth of the bottle. (keep that in mind) put rice in about 3/4 of the way and put all the toys in. (about 6 or 8 will be fine. Make sure to ake a little list of what toys you put in the dinosaur. put in a m'n'm or a little plastic dinosaur. after you wrote down the toys, close the top and shake the bottle up. everything will be all jumbled up. give the bottle to the child and explain to him it's a game of find it. if he can read, give him the list and have him roll the bottle around and shake it until he can see the item in the side of the bottle. when he does, he should check it off on the list. if he can't read, tell him what you have to look for and help him. you could bring up learning oppertunities too. tell him about dinosaurs when you find the dinosaur objest. make it fun and creative. just e-mail me if you need more ideas. Please tell him to get better. from me. My e-mail: POTCLover8@aim.com

I threw out over half her toys, now what?

Who am I?

For weeks I had been telling my DD to clean her closet. She's a stubborn girl and has a horrible habit of throwing everything (polly pockets, Pet Shop, Legos, bead kits... the whole 9 yards) in the bottom even though I have given her baskets and lidded boxes and shelves. So today I put everything in a bag and I'm tossing it. Of course she is mad and making excuses but I'm NOT backing out now. This is not the first time I've had to do this. She simply does not take care of her stuff.

Thing is, Christmas is coming. She and I both know this. I'm hesitant to buy a load of crap that is, in her eyes, simply replacing what was tossed and furthermore will more than likely suffer the same fate eventually. But I can't simply *not* get her anything because she still believes in the "big guy". I don't know what to do, I really don't. Any advice I'd truly appreciate on how to handle this situation.
She isn't spoiled with possessions by an y means. Kids have toys though and what she has she doesn't care for. When she HAS been taught and she HAS been given the resources and she HAS had punishments up until this point there is really no option but take the offending issue away. So before she does start re-accumulating I would like to ensure the same thing doesn't happen again. As for donating, this stuff hasn't been taken care of... the Polly dresses are torn, the legos scattered into only a handful. What started out as nice sets of toys has been reduced to rubbish.

Answer
if she still believes in santa, use that against her. remind her that santa only brings nice toys to boys and girls who are good and take care of what they have, so if she makes another mess then santa wont be bringing as nice of things for her if shes going to treat them like garbage. after saying that, of she remains clean and keeps her room tidy when you ask her too, get her the things you were originally planning on getting her. if she doesnt and she continues to break toys and acts carelessly about them, only get cheap simple things, not the things she really wants, get a bunch of clothes and books and maybe a few small toys and when she acts upset remind her that santa doesnt waste nice toys by giving them to kids who break their toys and dont take care of them.

I need help on pricing used toys for a yard sale?

Bubba

I have lots of Barbie stuff from dolls to clothes, cars and furniture all is still in great shape. I am de junking and we are having a yard sale. I am having a hard time pricing them. Any ideas? Also I have polly pockets (the old kind) and a ficher price doll house and people set. What would you pay for these idems? Any websites you know that could help price them? Thanks

Answer
The things you are selling are valuable to some people, but if your goal is to actually 'get rid' of everything, you have to price things much lower than the value you would get if you priced them for sale on eBay or Amazon. Top price should be $10 and work your way down from there. For instance the doll house should be $10 and the dolls should be $5 or less, depending in the condition. You would have to sell the clothes all together in a zip lock bag for $5. That's the way yard sales are, CHEAP....it's either that or keep everything.

Want to but my kids a microscope for Christmas...would like a good one this time.?

haloperido

Last year got my kids a microscope that looked good from toys r us....turned out to be a piece of poop. Looking for better quality but not above 200 clams
thanks

Answer
Logan F is correct. The quality of microscope depends on how old your kids are. You can expect to pay between $50 and $100 dollars for a reasonable children's student microscope. The instrument should come with a carrying case, slides, mounting fluid, cover slips, maybe even some biological stains. The eye-piece should be 10 X to 20X magnification. Zoom eye-piece if you can get it. The objective lens should range from 4X, 10X, 40X, and 100X. The stage, that part which holds the slide and sample being observed, should have a slide mechanical stage with X,Y position adjustment controls, or, at least two clips to firmly hold the slide to the stage. It should have a mirror for reflecting light through the stage and the sample into the objective lens for viewing through the microscope. If you can get it, battery operated light bulb on the opposite side of the mirror is very helpful. An aperture adjustment between the mirror and the underside of the stage is a very handy addition for enhanced viewing.

Again, like Logan F pointed out, all of this depends on how mature your kids are and how skillful they are at handling an instrument with delicate lens and mechanical adjustments.

One place to look for good quality used student microscope is in second hand stores. Very good quality unit can be had for reasonable price, but be sure that the instrument and lens are not damaged in any way.

Good luck.

Describe a toy that was important to you in your childhood.?

Mary

You should say:
when you got this toy

how you got this toy (or, who gave you this toy)

how often you played with it

(or: how much time you spent playing with it)

what you did with this toy *

and explain why it was important to you.

Answer

Transitioning to toddler bed?

Jenn

My son is almost 21 months old and we are going to try him in his big boy toddler bed this weekend. My fear is that since he will have acces to toys and a room that he will not want to sleep, but play all night instead, lol. I want to try the transition now only because we are expecting as baby in 3 months and I don't want to hit him with a new baby sister, a new bed, and then potty training around 2 as well.

So, any advise on ways to ease a toddler into their toddler bed? How did it go for your child?

Thanks

Answer
Hi there, great idea to time this now. Most toddlers transition quite easily to their new bed. If he's sensitive to it, prepare the move by telling him he is a big boy now and gets to sleep in a big boy's bed, ... Keep all the rest (such as cuddly toys, mobiles, anything that was in his direct environment when in his cot) the same as much as possible, also stick to the routine and schedule you had before.

This is also the perfect moment to start working on clear rules about night time: no playing, no walking around the room after bedtime, ... and you decide whether he is to call you when he needs you at night or if you want him to walk over to your room. But the best is not to overstress these things now, I would not even mention them to him now, except for casually 'time to go to sleep and stay in your own bed now' that kind of thing.

If you'll emphasize "do not come out of bed" you might actually give him ideas he may not have tried otherwise ...

You know your boy best but the main thing now is to set clear simple rules, stick to them consistently without making a fuss about them.

Good luck with this big step for your son, and with baby sister on the way!

Room for toddler boys?

Juliette O

i am about to decorate a room for my 2year old and 4 year olds room, but have no idea what to do it in. There last room was spongebob, this time i want something that they wont out grow so fast (no characters) i was thinking either camo or john deere. Any ideas? tips? ect?

Answer
my nephews are 4 and almost 6 and they share a room.

We didn't want just white because with boys walls wont stay white. She didn't want the traditional blue. She wanted a light grey that looks almost white.

They have this bunk bed that can be turned into 2 twin beds if they ever get their own room.

Am I the only one who is sick of NASCAR haters/bashers?

Q. As a NASCAR fan, bashers sometimes really get me p*ssed off. Some of the comments are really silly, it's the nasty comments and attacks on NASCAR fans that make me angry sometimes. I usually ignore it but it's hard to ignore personal attacks because I choose to like Nextel Cup..Am I the only FAN that's getting a little tired of the really nasty comments?
By the way, Aaron, this is a question about NASCAR fans. I don't lie about people who bash NASCAR. It just goes too far sometimes. I don't mind the annoying comments, I hate the nasty comments and personal attacks that some fans get when they ask a question about NASCAR. I know that most of the nasties do it just to get attention..

Answer
k..let me get on my box for a second.
yes, i'm getting very annoyed with a lot of things, including fellow nascar fans.
the haters/basher will always be there. oh well, their loss. they are missing out on a great thing. i am amused that they find it in their time to deal with something they claim to hate so much.. personally, i have better things to do with my time than focus on something i do not enjoy. to me, it's easier to let it slide off my back then to get annoyed with it. they have no impact on my life and i can watch my tv or sit at a track w/o their approval so i can happily go aklong my merrily nascar way. however, you have to look at what some fans are putting out there to the public. i say some, b/c i know there are still some TRUE fans out there.

first, let's get something straight: nascar is about racing. it's not about sex. so can we please of the love of all things holy in racing stop throwing underwear at driver's like jr or kasey kahne. yeah, we got it..some people think they are easy on the eyes. pretty does not pay the bills unless you are dancing on tables. driver are drivers. they are there for the talent and the sport. let's stop demeaning them like a freakin' piece of grade a meat. now, as i said, yes, there are some that are easy on the eyes. i lvoe tony, i think he's gorgeous, but if he could drive a car i wouldn't hae one piece of #20 gear.. if fans put it out there like it's all about something so shallow people will take that and use it.

second things are getting just ugly inside the sport. personally, i'm getting really extremely tired of everyne being ridiculous about the rivalries. i mean, yes, there are rivaliries and you can bag on other driver's a bit..but in the past years it has gotten to the extreme. it's gone from my driver can outdriver you driver.. to your driver is a lying cheating, homesexual, whinng scumbag..and it's just not nescessary.
people just can't admit when they are outraced, and it's irritating. i mean when someone besides their driver wins it becomes a matter of cheating an blah blah blah.. how about you just admit that you got outraced on that one. every driver would rather win against the best and have it be considered as a good win b/c they truly outraced.. and every driver would rather lose to a good driver than one who just got lucky.
it's getting really disgusting that people are like wishing harm, actual bodily harm on other driver's..Now that's just plain sick and wrong.
seriously, my two favorite driver's are probably on the top of the hate list..so i've gotten used to it over the years..but i still think it's gone way overboard and really makes me want to be escorted out of the tracks in handcuffs. i mean some people just need their stupidy stuffed right down their throats sideways..

now we take all that and put it out there for the non nascar people to view and what do you think thy are going to take from it?? it's all about representing things better.
k i will jump off my box now..thanks.

NASCAR bashers?

Q. Why do we, as fans, waste our time answering questions that bash NASCAR or the drivers? Is it the quick 2 points? i'm not talking about decent ones. I'm refering to the "NASCAR sucks" and "Why are the drivers considered atheletes". These ummmmm, "educationally challenged" questions.
I was just wondering this. The martial arts section has some wrestling fans coming in and starting crap. They get pretty vulgar though. That is what started my thinking about this.
Ed K- We do talk smack about each other's driver. That's a part of NASCAR. We don't tell each other that your driver isn't an athlete or crap of the sort. We know they are. I don't stoop down to the level of sexual prefference when I rib someone else, that is too lame. I believe that true fans don't need to go there.
Ed K- You are right. Want a beer and go wreck a truck??? LOL Couldn't pass that one up.

Answer
Because we can't reach through the computer and grab them by the neck and squeeze the Chit out of them!!!!! lol
So we true fans say something to atleast knowing we did something, although you are right there is no point. Makes for some fun answers to give sometimes...
Have a good night.

Need an age appropriate toy for 2 boy toddlers?

CrackerJac

I saw a big box of GI Joes at the dollar store but then I was thinking about the small parts and I wouldn't want my lil cousins to choke or get stabbed in the eye. So what would be some age appropriate toys?
4 minutes ago - 3 days left to answer.

Answer
I think that a good game to play with for a toddler is with puppets. I thought that these were hard to use but my husband recently bought some online and they were very easy to use and play with. My son he loved these puppets so much. My son convinced my husband to buy him a puppet theater and made a play for the whole family he has gotten very good with the puppets he and his friend are going to make a play next week in school too. I think it has been one of the best toys we have ever gotten my son. I leave you a link where my husband found the puppets they have a whole lot of them.

How do you organize your toddlers toys?

Dani

I have 2 toddler girls; 4 and 2 and not sure how I should organize their toys. I have been using empty diaper boxes for their toys (hey! they come in handy, haha) and I just throw everything in there.. big toys, small toys, parts to other toys. For the past few days I've been rearranging their room and want to organize their toys better. Where do you put big toys like for example a leap frog pad or anything of that size? How do you keep certain toys together like all blocks together, play doh, or whatever else like that?

My daughter's don't have a book shelf or any shelf in their room so I can't use anything like that. There are 2 dressers that would be free to put anything on top.

Come on guys, I really need some help lol I'm having brain farts! LOL Thanks

Answer
We're fortunate enough to have an extra bedroom that we've converted into a play room for the time being, so we have a whole room set just for my boys toys. I'm a bit of a neat freak and like to keep things organized. When we moved into our house I bought these big organizers from The Container Store and sorted each by size, what type of toy they were, etc. We bought two of the organizers-one for each of my boys. We also have other bins and a big chest that we've collected over the years to hold their things. All of it has certainly come in handy-and it manages to keep the playroom semi clean(most of the time!) :)

What's a fun birthday party to throw for a 2 year old?

Country Gi

My daughter is turning 2 on September 2nd and I'm not sure what to do for her party, also any present ideas would be very welcomed!

Answer
Lol, it's funny, my dad always says the exact same thing as everyone else here. "Why are you doing a big party? Why are you wasting money? Your baby is only 2, they won't remember any of it and it's just for you..."

I understand the intent behind it, but I don't fully agree. I actually DO remember events that happened when I was a toddler, about 2 years old, and some memories I have my parents were able to confirm were even when I was younger than that and couldn't talk!

While I do think you shouldn't go crazy and spend a lot of money if you don't have to, especially if you are strapped for cash, I do think there is nothing wrong with having fun and enjoying the celebration of your little one's big day! Besides, what most people don't consider when they tell you that you shouldn't worry about it because it won't be remembered, is that often times you are inviting cousins and other children who ARE old enough to remember, and who wants to be known as the mom who threw a boring party for her kid?

There are so many themes out there to choose from, just pick whatever sounds cute to you. Does your daughter like a particular tv character? Like, maybe Minnie Mouse, or Dora the Explorer, or something like that? You could pick any preschool show as a good theme for her party. Or maybe if she has a favorite animal she likes, you could do that. Ponies or panda bears,or just whatever you can think of! Pink and purple are always cute colors for a girl's party.

As far as gifts for a 2 year old, there are TONS of toys made for that age range. Go to Walmart or Toys R Us and just pick something out. You could even take her to the toy store and let her look around, when she finds something she likes, you can go back later and buy it without her or you could even buy it while she is with you and simply hide it for a few days until she forgets about it. Then you just wrap it up and she will be just as surprised to see it on her birthday as if she had never seen it before! Fisher-Price and Little People are good brands with a wide range of toys you could choose from. If she is into dolls you could get her doll stuff, and if she is into coloring and artsy stuff you could buy a little art easel or something. There are endless amounts of possibilities for what you could do.

Good luck, I hope you find a good theme that you like, I'm sure your daughter will be happy with whatever you do for her, even if it's small! Happy early birthday to your little princess!!! =)

One Year Old Too Young To Go Trick Or Treating?

Pink Cupca

My daughter is over a year old now. she will be 14 months old around halloween time, and I got her a cute little costume, and I was hoping to take her trick or treating for a little while. Maybe just a block of houses or so, since she's so little. but I think she'd have fun with it, and I know I would too. lol and I would let her eat a couple pieces of the candy after we are done. Do you think this is too young to start trick or treating, what have you done with your kids?

Answer
Our daughter was 13 months last year and she went trick or treating as "Minnie Mouse". She loved it. She started walking at 9 months, so by the time Halloween rolled around, she was a great walker and walked the whole time we trick or treated (2 hours), which I didn't expect. We took her stroller, but we ended up putting the candy bucket in it instead of her lol. We Trick or Treat in a small community that really just sits on their front door steps and hands out candy to hundreds of kids on Trick or Treat night...so toddlers and even babies trick or treating in our area isn't out of the norm. Many people in our area even give out little trinket toys instead of candy that are age appropriate for most kids...small slinky's, figurines, etc...so our daughter got a lot she could play with in her loot and the dum dum suckers were great for her with supervision. The majority of Halloween candy is thrown away no matter what age, so being a toddler and trick or treating really doesn't matter when it comes to that...unless someone has a kid who is a "candyholic"..lol. Trick or Treat is more about fun than candy anyway and you can't put an age on fun...go with what you feel is right for your daughter no matter what others say.

I personally don't think that a year old is too young, but its really up to you. Our daughter had fun and was a trooper in walking. I kept saying that when she got tired that we would go home, but she lasted the whole time and loved it. Hope this helps.

What would you most likely purchase from an online baby boutique?

Sade

I am launching an online baby boutique business on May 1st & I am looking for input about what customers would most likely purchase from an online boutique. what should i buy first for my baby "please answer"?

brittney R

most important to least important with prices and info on being a first time mom

Answer
infant seat about $75.00-100

crib w/ matteress price varies, if you plan on having more babies don't buy a cheap one, they don't hold up.
crib sheets and blankets. (bumpers etc are cute but not practical.)
mobile or a crib toy that plays music with soft lights, comes in handy, when checkin on baby in the middle of the night about $30.00

I prefered the moses basket at JcPenny's, order online, for about $30
to a basinet, but both are optional

Pack n play can be substituted for basinet or moses basket too and very practical, years of use about $100.00

diapers and wipes get 1 bag of newborn and 1 bag of size 1 to start. about $20 per bag, I prefered the pampers swaddlers.

Breast pump if you are nursing, again if you plan on more babies don't chince here, Medela pump in style is the way to go! (about 250-300)

formula if not nursing and bottles, your choice really, I used Good Start, but my babies used formula at about 9mos

spit up cloths, cloth diapers work great for this about $10

one peice sleepers 100% cotton about 10 each onsies under 10 for a pkg of 3. Go for the newborn size, they are smaller than 0-3mos and baby won't be in them long BUT it is nice to have something that fits well to begin with, may still be "big" on a 6#baby,

NICE outfit for baby's first pics in the hospital. I have good luck finding this at herbergers. about 20.00

baby shampoo and lotion, stick with unscented to start with, most newborns have sensitive skin.

desitin, I like original most prefer creamy, but it you have to deal with serious diaper rash original is the way to go!

These things are the basics and will get you started, you will also want to consider a swing (I have 4 kids and a 125.00 swing that none used long but many new moms swear by a swing), few toys, a baby gym for baby to lie under, I couldn't have survived without a Bumbo for my babies, a diaper bag (I didn't include it in the above list cuz most hosp will give you one but you may want a larger one) Pacifiers, again hosp usually sends you with one. My pediatrician prefers nuk, I liked the mams, babies choice tho. baby monitor, swaddling blanket is also useful, bottle brush, again not a neccesity but makes you job easier, 0-3mos baby cloths and jammies These are good things to ask for for your shower.

And for YOU!

pads-lots of them!
nursing pads and a nursing bra if it applies
nupercaine cream in case you tear or need stiches, it effectively numbs the area so you can pee! LOL
Gerber also sells hot/cold reuseable breast pads to help with engorgment.

I hope this list helps you, I have listed what you will NEED above with extras that are helpful too below. CONGRATS!!!

Dont kids play with toys any more?

trekkie_fr

I see kids ages like 9-12 (Sorry kiddies but that is children) doing everything except play with toys lately.

I see them on cell phones,or 10 yr old girls dressing like hookers wearing way too much make up. I have even seen kids that age walking down the street smoking like its no big deal. They even talk about sex like they really know first hand what its like. ( Kinda scary I think)

Is it just my area here or are kids now a days trying to grow up too fast?

whose to blame for this?

When I was that age I was playing with cars,He-mans, Gi Joes and that sort of thing.
cancan: you gave me an idea for another question.

Answer
Kids toys are different these days - cell phones are the new "walkie-talkies". They play video games of cars, he-man, and GI Joe.

As for the "grow up too fast" argument, there are a few things going on that really don't go well together.

Twelve year olds have more knowledge (as you pointed out) about sex and other adult topics than newlyweds did a few generations back.

At the same time, the children aren't responsible for their actions as they are still children. Unfortunately, parents are limited in their right to discipline their children and many lack discipline themselves.

So, children remain children despite their abundant adult knowledge until long after they should've become adults. The nation is full of 20 year old children, and 12 year old girls dressed like hookers.

What's the solution? Turn off the fking TV and talk to your kids. Teach them responsibility. Be open with them about them becoming adults. Don't close your eyes and mumble abstinence - it isn't reasonable and it doesn't work. Instead, validate their emotions and facilitate their decision making.

Buying toys for your kids?

Daniel B

My son is really big into the re-release of Indiana Jones and of course like anything they have released the action figures to rake in even more money on the deal. He really wanted the Indiana Jones action figure from the movie and I told him if he cleaned up his room I would buy it for him. Well sure enough I got a call from my wife on my way home from work telling me that his room was spotless (and in record time LOL) so I should pick it up for him on the way home. So I stopped in at our local Wal-Mart on the way home and low and behold now that the movie was out you can't find them anywhere... just the other characters. I searched high and low... nothing, so I headed across the street to Target. Nothing on the shelves, so I asked a manager, and eventually I was able to convince them to check in the back and open a new box and sure enough... happiest kid in the world is under my roof now LOL. What lengths have you had to go to find a toy your child wanted?

Answer
christmas 06 the bouncing zebra was hot well we live in a small town and well they was sold out so i called walmart one last time and the lady said they had one more. So i said i headed the 45 minute trip to pick it up. Well the lady at walmart was nice she told me were she hid it so i could get it. Well i got there went to the toy section and it was not there. I knew someone else had found it. So i just started looking for a new toy as i knew i would not find it. Then i spotted it and well i followed that lady around the toy department. Well she parked her buggy about 10 feet from her husband and that was all that was in the buggy and told him to watch it. Then he walked to the next isle well i took that buggy and ran to the check out and headed to the car then came back in to shop and that lady was telling her husband off that was the last one walmart was getting and so i was glad and my daughter used it then my nephew no my little cousin has it and i am fixing to get it back finally then i can give it to my friends daughters little boy

Best powered riding toy for 15 month old?

abc123

What are your thoughts?
Hi, Clay! Thanks for answering. There are actually a few models out now designed for the younger kids.

Answer
I dont think that you should give a 15 month old a powered toy just yet. But around 3 or 4 years i would suggest you get a Powerwheel for him, they're made great and are super fun for little kids. Hope this helped!

Christmas toy ideas for my 15 month old..?

Wyatt's ma

What would you recommend? I don't want stuff that is going to be thrown to the bottom of the toy box and never touched again. So far I have gotten a Cars Workbench, a tool box with tools, a little wooden workbench with wooden hammer (he will hammer the different shaped blocks into the holes), and a magnetic writing board..

Answer
Leap Frog and Zhu Zhu pets seem to be the most popular toys for kids this year. Also, I agree with getting toys that light up.

I found a site that has other popular toys for kids this year. I'll leave a link to the site below.

Halo Spartan Costume?

lightjedis

I want to make a Mark V Spartan Costume, from halo 1. What would be best to make it out of? Paper? Cardboard? I can't do something toooo complex. Is there a tutorial for it? I just need help! Thanks! :)

Answer
The only thing I can think of is to get a Storm Trooper costume (ebay? cheaper) and spray paint it the color you want. Then get a motocross helmet (hand-me-down store?)and spray paint it. You can also get toy guns and spray paint them the way you want them to look. You might be able to find some water guns on clearance this time of year. They tend to come in cool shapes and are much bigger than toy guns.

What should I get my nephews for Christmas?

Chris

I have two nephews, one is 3 and the other is 2, they both pretty much like the same stuff. The 3 year old likes Cars (lightning McQueen) and swords and stuff and the 2 year old likes pretty much anything. I want to get them something they would really like. I was looking at learning tablets online and considering pitching in with my sister to get them because they are $100 each and I am on a $100 budget. I want to get something they can use for a long time and not get bored.

Answer
Toys. Kids love toys at that age. Toys that move. Don't overspend on this.

dog toys????

stephizzal

i have an amazingly intelligent, but somewhat hyperactive dog. but he poses me a problem. he has to stay home whilst i work and he gets bored. i need a toy to keep him occupied whilst i'm out, can anyone reccomend anything? the balls that drop out treats are no good, he figures those out in 5 minutes flat

Answer
My dog has the same exact problem. he is a working dog, so he gets bored easily. I actually consulted a dog behaviorist, and she provided several affordable options. Kongs work very well, because they keep the dog busy for a pretty long time. Also, she recommended filling old cereal boxes and milk jugs with a little bit of dog kibble to entertain your dog. Rawhide is good too, but it gets boring after awhile. She recommends putting down 1 item per 30 mins that you are gone. If you are gone for an 8hr work day, that means you have to put down 16 items! However, not all of us can afford to buy a bunch of kongs at $10 each, so there is a more affordable way to do it. Here's what I've tried: First, I went to the grocery store and asked for beef bones. They were really, really cheap. Then, I took the beef bones home, emptied out the marrow, boiled them, cleaned them off, and put them in the freezer. It takes a little while, but it's worth the money you save. Each night, you can fill the bones with dog kibble, plug the ends with peanut butter or something so the kibble doesn't fall out, freeze it, and then put it down in the morning before you leave for work. Also, my dog likes to have a rawhide bone or 2 for variety.
This is just a recommendation, I hope things work out for you and your dog.

Where to get dog toys for cheap?

Nicole

I have two dogs, and they're big dogs. I want to buy durable dog toys for them, but I don't want to spend too much. Where should I buy the toys from? My city doesnt have many pet stores. The only one I can think of is Petco. Does walmart or target have good dog toys?

Answer
Walmart and Target has decent dog toys, look for the stronger ones, hard rubber like Kongs are best.
Target is expensive, however, Walmart and Pet Supermarket are far cheaper. You can try flea markets and dollar stores too, sometimes you get good deals.

I have one dog who breaks all her balls, it's a compulsion, she plays with them only in order to puncture them, so I go to flea markets and get her used big inflated balls with relatively hard covers.
I buy them for a dollar or two, she plays with them a good while until she manages to puncture them, that way I don't mind if it only cost a dollar, sometimes less.

I've bought her big new balls and she deflated them before I turned my back, so that's a waste and dog's don't care if the ball is used, just clean it with bleach before you give the used toy to your dog.

Christmas Help for toddler?

Nikkie

I live in pasadena md I have a 2yr old daughter and cannot afford gifts or a christmas tree all list are full and noone seems to want to help me. Anyone know what I can do?

Answer
Christmas is not that important to me. It seems most the stuff is junk and does not ever get played with. I limit the amount of toys that come in my home. So don't let it get you down. Celebrate the holiday together and make it not about gifts.

I highly recommend Dolly Parton's Imagination library, free book program. Hopefully your state offers it. Also nickjr.com has a website that is also giving free books, I don't know the details, I saw a commercial last night about it and haven't researched it.

I would choose a book over a toy any day for a 2 year old. Plus your 2 year old will get a book every month.

You can also ask for a toy on the Toys For Tots website.

Help with babysitting a 3 year old girl?

Bree

I took a Red cross class and my dads REALLY good friend has a 3 yr old daughter and offered to have me sit her from the hours of 6:30PM-1:30AM ( i am Thirteen ) i want to bring a bag like a bag of things to do.... but i have almost NO idea what to put in because ive NEVER babysat before.... well i babysat my cousins ( 4 & 7 ) for 2 hours... but yeah u know i never really BABYSAT for like night , the dad says bedtime is 10:30PM ( he said she has been a very good girl and gets to stay up extra late ) but i figure she wont make it *lol* i dint really know what to do, i want to stay inside u know in case... so yeah help please!!

By the way i am very responsible......
And Very Smart and get good grades and got a 98.7% on the red cross test... so.... yeah in nervous help me think of things to bring and things to do!!

Answer
I hope I can help, because my boys are 12 and 13, and my daughter is..........3!!!!
Most kids have tons of toys/books/crafts, so you'll have more than you'd even imagine to work with.
If you want to pick up a few things, the $Dollar store is genius.

-Books...lots of books. Kids never get tired of books, parents do, but not kids.
-Stickers...but make sure they don't get put all over the house, but kids loooove them...maybe w/ a sticker book or coloring book.
-playdoh! or Crayola model magic (less messy)...when I bring this or playdoh out, I swear that my daughter dances and tells me she loves me (which tells me I don't get it out enough!)
-They'll probably have movies, and plan on watching one! Or a Dora video or something to kill a half hour, but no more really, or she won't want to go to sleep at bedtime!
-If you see a fun game or craft to bring that is cheap, do it, but otherwise just use what they have.
-Ask the parents about allergies in advance, so you can grab a little treat for her to have as a snack, maybe find out her favorite, she'll be so surprised and excited!

I think it's a great idea to get a bag going...then you can bring it to every babysitting job. Kids will love it because anything different is amazing to them, and it's so special that you brought stuff to share with them. Then the next time you babysit, they'll look forward to whatever book you brought, because they may not have it, and you do!

The biggest thing to remember, and if you have this mindset, it'll be much easier...If she goes to bed at 10:30, you have 4 solid hours to do one on one play with her. Reading, a movie, crafts, toys, snack, bedtime ritual, and then you can relax a little! But for those 4 hours, keep your mind on that little girl! You will enjoy it much more if you get into it that way, and it sounds like you are on the right track.

Good Luck, have fun, get a really fun bag ready, and I'm sure you'll have a long career of babysitting ahead of you. You'll gain wonderful experience, and make some $$$!!!

Educational toys for 3 1/2 year old girl?

Ryan

My daughter is 3 1/2 ...I'm starting Christmas shopping and everything I've written on this list screams "fun" and there is ONE educational toy on it... I can't really find any that doesn't seem too complicated for her ... she's very smart but I need something that's fun but something that's educational at the same time. Any suggestions????

The only thing I've found so far that seemed nice was the Computer Cool School..

Answer
My son turned 3 last month and he's been having a lot of fun with a Bright Baby brand sticker book. It's hard to describe, but the book is full of pages of just silhouettes, and then there are pages of stickers in the back, and you have to find the right sticker that matches each silhouette and stick it on. Once you get all the stickers in place, it forms a big picture. It's been great for his motor skills, spatial skills, concentration, etc. And not too expensive, either.....

Good toys for a 3 year old for christmas?

purple but

OK here it goes. My son is 3 and a half years old and my MIL has asked me to write a list for christmas of what kinda toys he wants. Problem is that he never expresses wishes in that direction. We don't have cable or tv channels (we watch videos) so he doesn't have a whole lot of wishes. He has ride on toys and trucks. Is not ready for board games yet but loves playing PC games for toddlers. He has a lot of toys that are good for children his age so I am sitting here and don't really know what to write on that list. What do you thing are some good educational and pedagogical toys that you can or might recommend for a 3 year old boy?
He likes Schoolbuses and Helicopters. He knows his ABC and can count to 10 in 2 languages and he speaks mostly in english but he understands german quite well. We do play-doh and coloring we read books, listen to stories on CD and tape, pretent play with him. I like the idea with the food and the doctor kit. He already has tools and a trainset. I do care a lot about the toys my son plays with and its educational/pedogogical value.

Answer
When you're three, practically any experience that doesn't involve a screen can be educational. Things that let him explore adult roles are always good: a doctor's set (fisher price has a good one) or some toy tools (little tykes makes a super cute set of these; they light up and make noise but aren't too annoying). What kind of things interest him? What does he like to point out to you when you're outdoors or around town that might interest him in scaled down three-year-old size?

Little boys may need more encouragement to work on their dexterity, so as an answer above said, some play-dough or anything that involves fine motor skills is a good idea.

Destructive 3 year old?

Jessica

My son is 3 years old, very well behaved. Only downfall with him is that he is very distructive, he like to figure things out on his own. He likes to take anything he can find apart just to figure out how to put it back together, he is so intrigued my electricity we have had to duck tape his outlets in his room because he likes seeing things turn on and off. He has takin out kitchen cupboards apart, he then gets his fisher price tools so "he can fick it". He's takin our vent apart, breaks toys, takes light bulbs out of lights just to screw them back in, taking his bike apart, uses forks to open locked doors (which is one of things me and his father do to keep him locked out of dangerous things). Like I said he's is an amazing well behaved little boy, just very intrigued to find out how things works. We try and keep our eyes on him 24/7 but as other parents will know that sometimes doesn't always happen.. I'm not looking for rude comments just suggestions please! Thank you so much!

Answer
It sounds like he is very smart.
I wonder if he would respond to redirection?

What if you made a workbench for him? It could be a thrift store wooden coffee table or some other piece of "repurposed" furniture that is at his height.

Get him a set of real, child-sized tools such as this:
http://www.amazon.com/GRIP-96009-Grip-Childrens-Tool/dp/B001AIU2UO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1367092127&sr=8-1&keywords=child+tool+set
Add a pair of child-sized safety glasses and introduce the tools one or two at a time as you feel like he is ready for them.

Recruit friends and neighbors to donate their old, broken stuff for him to take apart: old fashioned alarm clocks and telephones, fans, VCRS, broken RC cars, etc. Give him one item at a time, cutting the power cords off so that he can't plug them in while he is working.

Any time he wants, he can go to his work bench to work on his project. When he finishes disassembling something, he can collect the pieces he wants to keep into a "spare parts" box and begin his next project. Eventually, he'll be able to assemble his spare parts into new (make believe) inventions.

By giving him this special area, you have a place to redirect him when he gets into your stuff. You also have something (his tools) that can be taken away as a logical consequence if he disassembles things that he shouldn't. The family rule would be that he can work at is workstation any time. If he wants to take something there to work on (such as something he feels is broken), he must ask permission. He must also ask permission to take his tools away from his work station for any reason, such as if there is something he wants to work on in the yard.

Here are some additional toys from Fat Brain Toys - a great educational toy site - to keep in mind for holidays and birthdays that would fuel his need to "figure things out":

Nuts and bolts construction kit:

Contraption lab (would probably need help at first):

Snap Circuits Jr. (would probably need adult help with this one!:

What's your policy on toys in kids' bedrooms?

Just Me

Right now my 4 year old daughter and 10 year old son share a (very small) bedroom. Needless to say it's always a mess, there's too much junk and not enough storage for it all. Most of it's my daughter's, all my son really plays with anymore is Lego's and toy cars.

We are moving to where all 3 children will have their own rooms. My son is only 5 months old so it's not an issue yet but will be before we know it. Anyways, we won't have an actual toy room but there will be a corner in the living room where we will keep some toys. I'd like for my daughter to have toys in her room as well but it always seems to keep her up at night. (This isn't an issue for the 10 year old.) How can I keep some toys in her room to play with during the day but it not be a problem at night?
Do they make toy boxes with a master lock? LOL

Answer
I also have 3 kids and they have their toys in their bedrooms. It wasn't always that way though. When we had our first child, we lived in a split level and his bedroom was upstairs, so we opted to keep his toys in the family room so he wouldn't be tempted to climb the stairs and risk falling to get to play with his toys. Besides, it was just one kid, so not many toys. We had 2 more kids, and outgrew our home to the point where we had almost all the toys in the family room simply because we didn't have space in the kids' rooms for them. We have moved and our boys still share a room, but it's much bigger and they've been ordered to keep all toys in their room. They can play with them in any room of the house, but they must get put back in their room when they are done. Toys in common areas just gets too messy. It got to the point where we were picking up and cleaning the living room several times a day just so we could walk! My daughter has her own room now and she absolutely LOVES playing in her room. She's 22 months old and playing with her toys at night was an issue at first, but we were very consistent in going in her room, taking the toys from her, and telling her it was bedtime, not playtime, and about a week later, she stopped playing with them and went to sleep. Kids need consistency, and as long as you stay at it, you'll break her of that habit before you know it.

what kind of food poodle toy?

Jesenia Va

puppy poodle toy

Answer
it really depends on what you want for your dog, here are some examples

Vet branded: Science diet, Royal canine
All natural: Natural balance
Top quality (in my mind) : Nutrience
Cheap: Pedigree, Iams

Also each one of these brands (except for the cheap brands) come with a puppy selection of there food.

Last but not least Royal canine has a specail poodle formula, ment just for that breed. It is guided towards helping certain health problems your poodle is prone to.

Good luck! and hopefully u choose a good food!

where to buy cheap rat toys?

Jessica

we r going shoping for toys n treats tmoorow

Answer
you don't necessarily need to buy them that many toys. there are so many things that are cheap or even free that they really enjoy. my girls have a washing up bowl that I fill up with toilet roll tubes and sheets of kitchen roll, offcuts of fleece, small chew toys etc, that they love rummaging through.

you can also get cheap fleece gloves, put treats in the fingers, tie it closed and hang it. this way they have to tear every finger open to get to the treats, so it keeps them entertained for longer than a sock would

the Dapper Rat website has LOTS of excellent cheap or free ideas for rat entertainment.
http://www.dapper.com.au/toys.htm

you can often pick up suitable childrens toys that rats would enjoy at charity shops. and pound shops often have lots of great things for them

you can also get cardboard wine bottle carriers in most supermarkets, with six compartments, which are free, and even though I rarely buy wine, when I ask if I can have one, no one has ever refused to let me have one. rats enjoy these because it's like a cardboard box with six windows to peep out of or climb in and out.

boxes, toilet roll tubes, scrunched up paper, even some old or ruined clothes are good fun for rats.
a cut off leg from a pair of jeans can be hung up to make a great rattie tunnel, for example.

yes, there's lots of great things you can buy for rats (especially in the bird toy part of a pet shop) but there's also a lot you can make, or just give to the rats instead of throwing out.

What is a good cheap bird toy?

Casey

For a Cockatiel? Can you give me a link for the toy?

Answer
If you want cheap bird toys, think about making them yourself. Here are some links which explain how to make home-made bird toys:
http://www.tailfeathersnetwork.com/birdinformation/homemadetoys.php
http://www.companionfids.com/toys/toyphotos.htm
http://www.birdsnways.com/birds/ideas.htm

You can also look around the house for toys your cockatiel can play with. Many cockatiels enjoy playing with toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls. Many cockatiels also enjoy shredding cereal boxes or chewing on plastic caps from coke, pepsi, or other drinks. Hope that helps you and your cockatiel out.

Safety gadgets for toddlers?

I am the mother of a budding engineer. Robby is 18 months old and into everything, much more than big sister was! He's also much bigger and more mobile, so he can reach things at a younger age, and we have a cat now, which we didn't have the first time around.

Question 1: Are toilet locks worthwhile? How much of a pain are they to install and use? The bathroom door doesn't close well, so the only way to keep him out is to put up a baby gate, which is inconvenient for the rest of us!

Question 2: We have a covered cat litter box, but he has learned to work the latches! Any ideas? Due to the floor plan of our house, there is absolutely NO other place to put the litter box. It has to be opened daily for scooping.

How best to keep Robby out of these highly desirable "toys?"
For Dr. Jeannie, I'm not trying to get out of my parenting duties, I'm trying to get something DONE around here before someone sees the condition of my house and calls child welfare! In the meantime, the toilet is DANGEROUS. I literally can't turn my back for more than 30 seconds, and it's really hard to clean that way. I'm all in favor of teaching children what's OK and what's not OK, but I need to keep him safe while he's learning. I have safety covers on the stove controls, too, and a safety latch on the oven, because they are both reachable.

I think maybe the latch on the outside of the bathroom door is probably best. And I'm definitely going to check out the litter box. The fact is, there is no place I can put the litter box where the cat has access and the baby doesn't!

Thanks to everyone!

One more thing--I can't use the dishwasher lock because when it's locked and you turn the knob (which Robby can do), it starts running! Any ideas for that?

Answer
Q 1 - Our bathroom doors close fine, so we just keep them closed. I have never used the toilet latch or seen anyone who used one. However, one woman I know bought a simple latch and eyehook from Wal-mart and attached it to her pantry door near the top, and that worked to keep her kids out of the snacks. That might be cheaper and less of a pain than the toilet lock.

Q 2 - We used to have a cat too, and we had the same problem (plus the dog thought the cat stuff was food. Gross). We bought the Clevercat top entry litter box from Petsmart. Here is the link to the info page about it, or if you'd rather, just go to petsmart.com and click on cats, then litter boxes, and it's on the second page.

Anyway, it's like a big box with a hole on top, and if you have it between the wall and something else, it may be a little more of a pain for Robby to mess with. The top comes off, but it kind of snaps on, like one of those big rubbermaid containers, so it's a little harder for little ones to get into. Plus it doesn't have the cool swinging door on it. :) That's what my son liked. Check it out at least, it might help you. Or, you could always do what my best friend did - give away the cats. ;) Just kidding.

If neither of those things are helpful, you will probably just have to keep removing him from those two dangers consistently until he learns that they are not to play with. Consistent consequences are probably key here, for instance, time outs or a pop on the hand if you believe in that, or whatever you decide, and they just stick with the consequences until he gets out of this phase. Maybe. LOL I'm in the same boat, my son wasn't nearly as much trouble as my daughter is, LOL. She's only 13 mo and can already climb into and out of the bathtub, and does so regularly. I find her sitting the there, waiting for me to fill it up so she can play. Sigh. She also delights in pulling everything out of the dishwasher. I'm like, are you kidding? Who would have thought of that? LOL

Good luck with your babies!

toys for infants?

leigh_ann_

I went to target today to find a toy for my 5 week old, but I dont know what kind of toy to get her. I know they say to get ones that are black and white and maybe red. I thought about getting her the floor gyms but they are $30-50, would it be good to get it for her now or should I wait until shes a little bit older? I just feel like shes bored.. i know i know dumb feeling....
another weird thing that just came to me-do you think babys are affraid of the dark? I know that they where in the dark for 9 months but now that they are out in the real world could it happen? I have noticed that when she is fussy at night and shes laying on my chest she wines a little bit but when i put on our light on low she falls asleep pretty fast.. so am I crazy or could she be affraid of the dark??

Answer
The floor gyms are actually better now then later. The reasoning for this is that once they start moving around they won't use it as much, I started using one when she was a month old and had her do her "tummy time" on it and what not. Other toys or things to buy that I would recommend is soft books because it is an easy way for you to interact with her but she can also play with it on her own. Anything else like the soft blocks, or soft rattles, etc. Babies at this age don't actually play with too much but if you want to have these things around for when she does its easier than running out and buying it all at once.

As for being scared of the dark, my daughter is just over a year now and still sleeps with a soft light on in the hall outside of her room. she never slept in the complete dark without crying!

which is the best toy for infants?

sesame

Answer
i'm a big fan of learning toys, and the best thing is that they are categorized for your child's age. also try to see what your child seems to enjoy playing with more. i have and 11 month old and he loves books, since he's likely to try to eat the pages i bought him books with hard cardboard pages. btu sometimes they enjoy the box more than the package itself.
try:
baby eistein, leap frog, fisher-price
