Toys for a 1 Year Old?

Rylie's Mo

My daughter just turned one on Friday. I am curious as to what are the best toys for her at this point. (Ones that will help her learn and develop motor skills. Thanks.

Answer
Ones I had, or would have liked to have: VERY simple shape sorter - like with many copies of only 3 shapes; those things with 5 different buttons/switches/levers that pop up 5 different toys when you manipulate the buttons/switches/levers; small swimming pool; nesting cups / nesting dolls; sandbox + shovel; a bouncy ball of the right size (about 6" diameter); music toys - simple ones! like rattles or drums that make a variety of different sounds; some simple toys that have wheels; clear toys containing water and shiny things that can be shaken and you watch the things "swimming" inside; bubble blower (for you to use and child to watch); a top (also mainly to watch you use it but she might be able to get it going briefly); and board books with lots of pictures - still my 16 month old's favorite thing! She has learned almost all the words she has from those. She loves ones that have shiny stuff attached inside, like some of the more durable touch/feel ones, and the Katz lift-the-flap ones are good although they need protection from tearing and folding.

Interest in dolls might increase in the next few months - try a brightly colored ragdoll? Soon she'll be ready for push/pull toys, like a wagon or toy shopping cart, doll stroller, toy lawnmower etc. Oh, and we also have a set of foam blocks made by Sassy that has little cubbyholes in each one, with a small soft toy inside -- that she enjoyed a lot. Surprising to see how fast she learned to match the toys to their blocks.
http://www.sassybaby.com/product?productid=157&product=Peek-A-Boo%20Blocks

Some of what I've listed might seem too advanced at first but in the next couple months they should be just right! I'm also *still* searching for one of those tub toys that suctions to the wall and has tubes and waterwheels & such, that the child can pour water into.

What toys do I get for a 6 month - 1 year old?

Q. It's for my sisters new baby. At the moment she's only about 1 - 2 months old, but there's huge toy sales on where I live and my sister's moving here soon, but by that time the toy sales will be over, so she wants me to get her baby girl some toys for when christmas comes around.
I wouldnt have a clue what to get her, i've never had any experience with babys and i'm not planning to have my own. Please help, thanks. =]

Answer
Please, please, please, I beg you to buy this young girl something other than toys. I give books for all occasions and I cannot emphasize enough how important I think it is that you consider giving your niece books instead of toys as gifts, particularly with so many negative influences impacting children nowadays. The sad truth is that if you buy toys for your niece you'll be wasting your money on something she'll either not appreciate fully until she's much older or tire of in weeks if not days (after all, she's not quite one).

I heartily advise you to invest your resources on something that (when used daily) can benefit her for the rest of her life. I realize you're probably looking for toy ideas and that's why you posted your question in this forum, but think about the impact books can have on this young girl's future. Think of the special opportunity you have to influence her early learning and foster her emergent reading skills. Picture yourself on the day you meet her...or her mom every day thereafter, reading to this special child and the joyful moments you all can experience exploring the pages of a book. Besides, a book can be an everlasting gift and you can inscribe a special message within it, creating a lasting memory for this girl. I still have books that my aunt and uncle gave me when I was a child and I loved rediscovering the inscriptions they wrote me when I read the books again as an adult. The single best way to help a child become a reader (for life) is to read to her regularly. You can make a huge difference in this young lady's life by giving her books. You're establishing that you value reading and literature and you're encouraging her to value the same. I can't imagine that her mom won't appreciate the sensible choice you'll make in giving her daughter books, and you'll look smart, too. Most young children love to hear the cadence of someone else's voice.

Reading aloud to a child can be calming, instructive and just plain fun. I advise you to look for books that rhyme or have a rhythmic pattern. This is the key to building reading fluency in children. It's no accident that children will often ask to have their favorite stories read to them again and again--these books, from the classics to the contemporary feature repetitive or rhythmic text that begs to be read aloud time after time. Also, pop-up books, lift-the-flap, and of course board books, can be very attractive to children her age. I've included some titles below that are available in board book format. There are thousands of books you might select, but let me recommend a few that you may not be familiar with (some are more appropriate for preschool children--but they would make good additions now to her home library):

"The Long-Nosed Pig" by Keith Faulkner; ill. by Jonathan Lambert [pop-up book]

"The Wide-Mouthed Frog" by Keith Faulkner; ill. by Jonathan Lambert [pop-up book]

"Shark in the Park" by Nick Sharrat [Fun!]

"Bark, George" by Jules Feiffer [Hysterical!]

"T is for Terrible" by Peter McCarty

"Some Dogs Do" by Jez Alborough [I could read this book every day for the rest of my life--so positive do I think its message is].

"Duck in the Truck" by Jez Alborough

"Louella Mae, She's Run Away" by Karen Beaumont Alarcón; ill. by Rosanne Litzinger

"The Wolf's Chicken Stew" by Keiko Kasza

"Rosie's Walk" by Pat Hutchins

"Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale" by Mo Willems [the sequel "Knuffle Bunny Too" has since been published]

"Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus" by Mo Willems [There are other books about the Pigeon and his adventure--this is the best].

"Leonardo, the Terrible Monster" by Mo Willems

"Edwina, the Dinosaur that Didn't Know She Was Extinct" by Mo Willems

"Sheep in a Jeep" by Nancy Shaw; ill. by Margot Apple

"Caps for Sale" by Esphyr Slobodkina

"Millions of Cats" by Wanda Gag

"Harold and the Purple Crayon" by Crockett Johnson

"Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak

"Goodnight Moon" by Margaret Wise Brown; ill. by Clement Hurd

"Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs!" by Sandra Boynton

"The Missing Piece" by Shel Silverstein

"The Missing Piece Meets the Big O" by Shel Silverstein

"The Very Quiet Cricket" by Eric Carle

"Fish Eyes: A Book You Can Count On" by Lois Ehlert

"Banana Moon" by Janet Marshall

"Dinosaur Roar" by Paul & Henrietta Stickland

"How Loud Is a Lion?" by Stella Blackstone; ill. by Clare Beaton

"Clickety Clack" by Robert & Amy Spence; ill. by Margaret Spengler

"One Red Dot" by David A. Carter [Amazing pop-up book]

"Blue 2" by David A. Carter [Incredible pop-up book]

"600 Black Spots" by David A. Carter [Outstanding pop-up book]

"Arrowville" by Geefwee Bodoe

"Duck on a Bike" by David Shannon

"No, David!" by David Shannon [Check out David's other adventures, too].

"Ella Sarah Get Dressed" by Margaret Chodos-Irvine

"Click, Clack Moo: Cows That Type" by Doreen Cronin; ill. by Betsy Lewin

"How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?" by Jany Yolen; ill. by Mark Teague

"How Do Dinosaurs Get Well Soon?" by Jany Yolen; ill. by Mark Teague

"How Does a Dinosaur Eat His Food?" by Jany Yolen; ill. by Mark Teague [There are several other books about dinosaurs from this author and illustrator].

"The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds

"Ish" by Peter H. Reynolds

"The Spider and the Fly" by Mary Howitt; ill. by Tony DiTerlizzi

"Imogene's Antlers" by David Small

"Un Gato y un Perro" by Clare Masurel

"Bear Snores On" by Karma Wilson; ill. by Jane Chapman [there are other wonderful books about Bear's misadventures from this author/illustrator team]

I've read the above picture books numerous times with great cheer (and some tears) from many audiences. Click on my profile and e-mail me. I would be happy to correspond with you and make further suggestions. I'd also encourage to stop by your local library and chat with the children's librarians there to get their recommendations. Finally, I'd suggest you find a copy of Jim Trelease's "The Read Aloud Handbook." http://www.trelease-on-reading.com/ It's an invaluable resource for parents, godparents, grandparents, and gift-giving aunts of soon-to-be-one-year-old girls. Another good source of information is "Parent's Guide to the Best Books for Children," published by The New York Times and edited by Eden Ross Lipson.

where can you buy cheap sex toys?!!?

abercrombi

me and my girlfriend want to experiment but we spend all our money on designer lingerie(it comes off anyways so idk why we do it!) but yeah soo we dont ever have money left, so help a girl in NEED!!

Answer
I would not recommend cheap sex toys. Studies have shown that many sex toys have found to have toxic chemicals in them and you certainly don't want toxic chemicals in such tender areas.
I suggest experimenting with food. whipped cream or warm chocolate syrup can be fun. Spread a blanket on the bed that you don't mind getting stuff on.
Or, if you don't want a mess, tickle each other with feathers.
Do you have a silk or satin scarf? Tease him with it.
You don't have to look far to find interesting things to play with.

Toy for 1 year old for $50 dollars or under?

P

My son is turning one, my husband and I already purchased him gifts from us. My grandparents sent a check for $50 dollars and requested we purchase him a toy with it.
I am just looking for some ideas for a great amusing toy for a one year.
Links appreciated.

He already has lots of small toys.
Whats something your 1 year old just loves?

I guess I am just running out of ideas...lol!
Yeah, we have the mega legos, my son loves them.

And thanks for the ideas about outside stuff, but I already thought of that. My mil is getting our son a wagon, my dads getting a sandbox and building a picnic table, and we got him a little slide, and we already have a pool, lol, yes, he is spoiled.
Babygirl, yes, he has two music tables, lol, bring on more ideas if ya got them.
Oh, I love the bounce and zebra and water table idea. Yeah, the table looks messy, definetly a kitchen toy...but that looks like it would be useful for awhile.
And yes, he has a fourwheeler ride on toy and a firetruck ride one toy, again spoiled.
I wouldn't even be purchasing him another toy at this point but its what my grandparents wanted and I can't disrespect that.

Birthdays right after Christmas, not such a good idea...lol!
Ohhh, the tunnels a good idea too, it would be great for future babies as well. :)

Answer
Does he have a music table?. My daughter LOVES this thing. She got it for Christmas from Grandma and plays with it everyday. She just turned one last week. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3109734

Let me know if you already have it b/c I have more ideas...

2 tables! Well, then I bet he's got a ride on toy as well, my baby girl has the little mermaid version of this
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2885535

Watertable? Messy... my friend's kid has it
http://www.target.com/Sand-and-Water-Kingdom-Table/dp/B000065CRG/sr=1-1/qid=1233265310/ref=sr_1_1/188-4624479-0077537?ie=UTF8&rh=k%3Awater%20table%20toy&page=1

A tunnel! My daughter played with one similar to this at her cousin's house and loved it (it was more like a tent with a tunnel attached) http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3145356

What are the best cat toys for a 1 year old Siamese cat?

Scooter_Th

She seems to be bored with the normal kitty cat toys and prefers to play with my cabinets (opening and closing them at weird hours). Are there any cat toys out there that would simualate this without her getting into stuff she has no business being in (nothing dangerous, just dishes!) ?
All great ideas, but I am looking for a toy or something similar that would simulate the opening and closing of cabinets so that I can keep her out of my cabinets!

Answer
by the time a cat is a year old, they're natural hunters instincts are full blown
this sounds like the case here, she is checking out her environment, searching for food and defending her territory the same way she would if she were an feral cat
it doesn't matter how much food is in her bowl, her natural hunter's instincts are always going to drive her to look for food in her environment
and that's a good thing because it keeps her active
(my boy is 13 months and this is what i do for him)
set up a hunt for your cat: hide bits of kibble, treats, and toys around the house to get her hunting
what I usually do is fill a few plastic easter eggs with kibble or cat nip and then my cat has to figure out how to break them open to get to the food/treat inside
I also put a bit of kibble in a plastic cup and set it on the floor, so he has to knock over the cup and paw at the kibble to get it out
cats are curious by natural as well, so I suggest besides setting up a hunt for your cat you could also bring home a cardboard box every once in awhile for the cat to explore, and expand her territory
(I think having some boxes for her would stimulate the same response as the cabinets because if you set a cardboard box on it's side with the flaps only part way open then she'd have to paw at the flap in order to get it open and she could climb in and out of them as she would the cabinets.)
there are several ways of getting cats interested in old toys, one way is to simply take the toy away for a few days, maybe even a week, then give it back
another way is to hide some kibble under the toy
still another way is to sprinkle the toy with some catnip
the best toys for full grown cats with full grown hunter's instincts are the toys that resemble mice or birds
the toy should move like or sound like something the cat is naturally drawn to
hope this helps,
ps I've included a link to some videos on cats and playtime that I think you may benefit from watching:
http://petvideo.com/index.cgi?category=28
they are all very short (it'd take 20 minutes to watch all four in the series however I think you'd get some great ideas on how to keep your cat entertained for hours)

Has anyone seen The Last Mimzy? Does it have demonic influence or magical forces?

LadyDeathS

I haven't seen it yet, but by the previews, I thought it was about 2 kids that find an object from the future that helps them save the world. If you've seen the movie, does it have demonic influence such as magic? I'm asking because I want to take my 3-yr old, but think she may be scared.

Answer
The original story definitely had NOTHING about demonic influences. The movie is supposed to be a slightly up-dated and revised telling of a great science fiction story by Henry Kuttner, C.L. Moore's husband using the alias "Lewis Padgett." It's a short story called "Mimsy Were the Borogoves." It's worth reading, trust me! Excellent story. ...

The movie has wonderful special effects. I think the kids will like it. I know people who saw it with their kids and liked it.

Yes it was a science fiction story and although it's more of a kids' movie the way it's being portrayed in the film, it be interesting to see if the movie does the original story justice.

Basically the original story was about 2 kids who find toys that are from the future, some scientist tinkering with a time travel machine had sent them back as an expirement in the story. He wasn't trying to deliberately change history, he just wanted to see if he could send something and his kids' old toys were handy. Anyway, the children who find them are changed by them, made smarter. When they read ALICE IN WONDERLAND and the works of Lewis Carroll, the kids find an important clue in "Mimsy Were the Borogroves" that lets them tap into a new form of power.

Try it!

Is The Golden Compass a very demonic movie for children?

Go For Bro

My girlfriend's mom is a Jewish Messianic and told me yesterday that the movie I watched, The Golden Compass was demonic and is really bad for children to see. She also said that stories like Harry Potter and Lord of the Flies are also demonic. Even Pokemon is demonic because it means Pocket Monster in Japanese and she told me that her friends told her that they have seen Pokemon figures moving by itself during the night because there were little demons living inside those plastic toys. I personally find this very comical but I still listened to her and made her feel that she is right although I think she is going way out of the line in the her knowledge of the spiritual realm.

Answer
I too have seen the Golden Compass, and there is nothing particularly demonic about it. I am sure that your girlfriend’s mom is adamant about the supposed Satanic undertones of the Golden Compass because the Catholic League has recently published articles , is involved in a mass email campaign and is aggressively hitting the talk show circuit stating that the Golden Compass is actually promoting atheism for kids, and teaches kids anti-Catholic propaganda.

From reviews I have read concerning the Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman, of which the Golden Compass is based on the first book in the series, there is much criticism explicitly of Catholicism in the books, and Christianity is ridiculed in general. In fact the series ends with a major protagonist killing God. Philip Pullman is a very public atheist and his trilogy, does according to those critics who have read it, have an atheistic bent to it.

Yet, from the commentary written by film critics, the actually cinematic version of the book, “The Golden Compass”, is almost entirely stripped of controversial content. The Magesterium , which in the book actually is an explicit metaphor for the Catholic Church, is turned into a generic totalitarian institution, with no direct connection to Roman Catholicism. The daemons that are paired with all living creatures in the film, and the issue concerning “dust”, which is a preoccupation of one of the main characters, loses its spiritual significance in the film rendition of “The Golden Compass”.

After watching the film for myself, I can say that the film critics were right that the “The Golden Compass” is fairly innocuous as movies go. All the hype about how atheistic the film was is just that, pure hype. The film makers took the easy and cowardly way out and denuded the film of all things that could have the potential to be inflammatory. Besides, when all these religious groups rail against the movie all they are doing is sensationalizing it, and thus making it more popular than ever. Will these people ever understand that the more you forbid something, the more people will want to see it?

What kind of outdoor toys do you have for your 1-2 year old?

N and A's

We have a fenced in backyard and Noah will be 1 in April so I'm sure he'll be out and about back there often this summer. I'm stuck on what sorts of toys to get for him. I've been looking on Craigslist for a slide/climber of some sort and have found some cute ones.

People have asked what to get him for his birthday and I'd like to give them some ideas. Trucks and balls have already been thought of. What does your little one play with outside?
LOL, Alia's mom, I can so see Noah doing this too.... It's going to be a long summer of "Noah, don't eat that!"

I forgot a pool, duh! Thanks ladies.

Answer
What about a sand box, my son loved to drive his trucks in the sand. Sand toys.
Water table, they are great!
Swing, slide, which you already mentioned. You can put the slide in the pool, thats fun. Toys for the pool.
Sidewalk chalk
bubble machine. big hit!
Bouncy house, big hit here. they arent that expensive,$100-200 but worth it and will last for years if you take care of it.
Little tykes baseball tee. by summer he will be able to hit the ball, if not already.
A ride on toy, you could get a small motorized one, my son had a 4 wheller, it is a perfect size for a 1-2 year old.
If you are planning on staying in the home you live in now for a while, a nice wooden swingset is a fantastic investment, worth every penny, but expensive.
One of the plastic houses, we got ours like 4th hand, it is old and still looks new. I would buy one second hand. my sil got one on Craigslist for $25.
Gardening tools, Water can!..my kids love to water...anything.
A tent. my daughter has a girraffe tent, we use it inside and outside.
Small chair for outside, with a table or a picnic table for lunch and snacks, coloring, painting and messy stuff.
A shed to keep everything in...lol.
Oops! the #1 favorite outdoor toy of my sons was his bubble lawn mower. he used it for 3 years. we would bring it everywhere, he liked to mow everyones lawn..kept him busy for a long time.

toys for a 3 1/2 year old?

kirstin

My son loves to build things - do you know of any wonderful "toys" that let a child build and use their imagination? I have the usual - Legos, wooden blocks, big carboard blocks . . . I'm just looking for a new activity for him. Thank you!

Answer
Kid knex is the best construction toy my kids have ever had I bought one cheap set and my kids played with it constantly for a week I then added to it, they have played with that more than anything else since they were around three, they are six and seven now and they are still going strong. I have since introduced the version knex which is for older kids and is just as popular but the kid knex is not on it's way out yet. It is also one of the most popular thing that their friends play with they also have lego, playmobil, mechano, bricks and a room full of stuff.

How to make a Homemade toy for Toddler?

Grace

I am trying to create a homemade toy for my toddler. I am a stay at home mom of twin girls. They show that they are tired of playing with the same toys and so my husband and I thought it'll be a good idea if I came up w/a homemade toy. But, Im stuck.
Please help me.

We'd like it to have a meaningful concept as well as it being safe. Dont' want pieces to easily come off and find them in their mouths!

Thanks in advance for assistance!

Answer
If no-one can give you an Idea for a toy try this.

It worked on my parents, worked on me and my siblings, its working on my kids.

Pack up 2/3rds of the toys into thirds, rotate them every three months, they think its the best things ever. (just pack away those that they don't play with anymore)

Alternatively click on the source links and have you kids help make them!!!

What is a good homemade toy for a toddler?

I am in a child development class for school and we have to make a child's toy. What toy is easy to make that also allows the child to learn and interact with?

Answer
My kids loved simple stuffed animals made from a towel or baby blanket with embroidered eyes and nose. You can get stuffing at Walmart for $2 or $3. Thread is 50 cents for sewing and 25 cents for embroidery.

For interaction you can have an attached vest that buttons, ribbons that tie, a voice box inside the toy that cries when you turn it upside down...etc.....

Here are a few sample patterns / directions for free:

what happen to all the toy stores?

TREBOR.

when i was growing up there was like 3-4 toy stores in the mall, now they've all moved or went out of business, there's nothing but clothing stores, and then we wonder why our kids are so screwed up, and hanging in the streets its like there childhood has been taken from them, you hardly see kids playing street football, or doing kid stuff, seems most want to be a stupid ass thug, it just aint right, we are totally losing our youth.

Answer
Walmart, Kmart, Target, Meijer, thats wut happened to all the toy stores. The mom & pop stores can't compete with the big box stores. Sad but true the other thing is kids just don't get out and play like they did when we were kids. they are on their computer games. The neighbor kids were lookin for something to do and i suggested kickball in the field behind the houses. Parents would not let their kids come out and play because because there would be no adults there and someone might kidnap their kids. I volunteered to supervise. we put up posters and set a time. It took a couple of weeks for word to get out and for parents to ease up and get enough for 2 teams but now we have 3 games goin 2 or 3 times a week. alot of parents are joining in now too. We all have a great time.

How do you went to choose toys for your kids ?

Answer

TY! btw, i am so confused, soo anything you can do to help would be amazing!

also, if you have any personal experiences with kids modeling then share! =]
i am 13, but i look younger

Answer
Hi. Im 24 years old but I was in the modeling & acting industry from the time I was 8-16. I must say, that until 15...I really enjoyed it. I did commericals & ads for Matel toys, Mervyn's clothes, etc. And when I was younger it was actually FUN on set to play with the other kids in the shoot or commercial. I would have done it for free it was so much fun. However, as I approached pubirty it wasnt fun anymore. My agent would send me on a call & tell me to be sure to dress on clothes that "showed my figure"...She would ask me if I had any zits that week, if so how many? If it was more then 2 or 3 she wouldnt send me because it would be a bad represenation of her agency. I had braces from 13-15 & I got no work what-so-ever. Every audition I went on, they would say "Thanks for coming but we need a white smile not a metal smile" So that lowered my self-confidence. I felt ugly because I couldnt get a job. So then one day my agent calls & says "Guess what!!!! You just got the biggest job yet. You have been selected to be a Junior Guess Jeans model for their next campaign" Well I was ecstatic!!! She then said "Only one problem, they booked you off your photo that your not showing your braces. So when I told them you had braces they were going to cancel you & pick another girl. So, I told them I would have you go to your dentist & take them off" I immediatly went from happy to sad. I knew my Mom & Dad nor my dentist would allow me to just take off my braces. I was supposed to have them on another 6 months. Well, my Mom drove me to the dentist explained the situation & the dentist agreed to take them off for the shoot & put them back on the next day. Needless to day, It took a few hours taking them off, did the shoot the next day (had to take tylenol because I was in alot of pain from having my braces pryed off my teeth!!) then spent a few hours the next day putting them back on. So, where did the fun go??? It was no longer fun anymore. Because I never felt good enough. I always thought that I would be perfect for the job if I was a little taller, thinner, teeth were straighter...

The last audition I went on I was 16 years old. It was my first year on the cheerleading squad in highschool & I was having so much fun...Cheering at football games on Fridays. For once I didnt feel like I wasnt good enough or like people were inspecting me to see if I was goor enough for them. So, one Friday morning as Im leaving for school dressed in my cheer outfit because we had a BIG game that night against our rival school....My agent calls & tells me I have an audition at noon in Los Angeles. I told her that I wouldnt be able to go because my cheer coaches rule was that if we didnt go to school then we couldnt cheer at the game. She told me that this was an audition I didnt want to miss. It was a Doritos commercial for the SUper Bowl game coming up & INSYNC would be in the commercial with me....I felt torn in both directions. I knew if I went to the audition I would let down my cheer squad by not being able to perform with them at the game...And if I missed the audition & went to the game I could be passing up a great opportunity for a big commercial.
Needless to say, I went to the audition...Cried the whole way their because I knew I was going to miss the game. I get to the audition & am surrounded by 5 or 6 beautiful yet snobby girls. I always enjoyed meeting new girls at auditions...But this audition was filled with cold girls. I tried talking to one & she rolled her eyes at me & ignored me. Then as another girl was being called in to audition I said "Good luck" She looked at me & said "No, your the one that needs a good luck!!"....I walked right out of their & didnt even audition. i told myself & my Mom, if thats how this industry is the older I get...I want NOTHING to do with it. Because life is too short to spend working with people in Hollywood who think they are better then everyone.

I dont have any regrets of not pursing my modeling or acting career. Especially when I see the magazines headlines of all the celeberties &models who battle with drugs, depression & anorexia. Because if I would have stayed with it...I could have been just like them....And even though they make alot of money....They would tell you, ITS NOT FUN! And losing yourself is not worth any amount of money....Happiness is far more important.

Hope that helps you :) And whatever your decision is good luck to you...Just remember to NEVER change yourself for anyone....If you are happy with the person you are inside & out, thats all that matters.

amdw1092

I am babysitting a 6-8 year old girl don't know her exact age yet but I need to know what kind of toys do u think she will like cause what i like to do is bring some toys with me because it helps them . So PLEASE Help !!!! Thank You !!!

Answer
I liked dolls when i was that age. and coloring books are a good thing to take, they are cheap to purchase too. and a few videos for her to watch age appropriate of course. you could take a kid board game if you have one, or a deck of cards, play slap jack if shes really little, or if shes a little older play go fish, or let her make up her own game! You could ask the parents if they have some of those things and if they dont have something you do im sure the kid would love to play with something they dont have! good luck! just have fun with her and she'll have fun too!

POLL: Have you heard the McDonald's Rap?

Answer
nope. i havent until now :)
it was lame.
i rather listen to the taco bell commercial rap .

Where can I find a video and lyrics of that Mcdonalds Rap commercial?

rvgt300

It's the one with the black girl and she's singing in the van and she's a really good rapper. It's like the rap is from the 90's

Answer
Yes, I can help you out with that!

The name of the official McDonald's commercial which you are referring to is called: "Dollar Van Rap".

The girls name, who is featured in the video, is Joya Bravo. Just type her name in on Youtube, and it will direct you right to the a video of the commercial!

The lyrics are:

Up early in the morning, thought my day would be whack.

I turned on my T.V. and here breakfast was back.

So I changed up my venue. What could I get into?

McDonald's got a new dollar menu. (And breakfast!)

Skippin' breakfast is not my emmo

When I can eat a sausage burrito

A biscuit McMuffin to get down

with coffee a hashbrown.

Now our eyes on the double,

'cuz nobody does breakfast like Mcdonald's!

Hope that helps!

Is it illegal to ride a motor scooter around in your neighborhood?

Q. My child just got a little kid motorcycle, which goes max 10 mph and is battery powered, and i want to know if it's illegal to ride it around the neighborhood.

Answer
sorry it doesn't say where you are from.

in the uk it is illegal to ride anything on the pavement including a bicycle, however the police understand that it is wrong for children to ride on the road so it is overlooked until they are of a responsible age. in the uk that is 12

a battery powered bike is mechanically powered and would require licensing tax and an mot. again however its a toy and would be overlooked. this is different to a battery assisted bicycle where it is manually powered but assisted.

if you were in the uk it would be illegal to ride on the path and to ride on the road but it is standard presidure to ignore both

What sort of ride on toy works for bigger than average toddlers? ?

heartlosta

Okay, my daughter will be 2 in December, and she loves ride on toys, however, she's way too tall for the ones she has, even a ride in car that's supposed to work until they are 4, because she's about 37 inches tall and almost 40 lbs already. Lol- I have the playskool push walker that turns into a ride on for her, and when she sits on it, her knees are past the front of it. So are there any small ride ons designed for little ones that she can use both in the house, and outside? We're thinking about her first bike, but she's really clumsy yet(grandma always calls her grace, lol, and that's not her name) and I'm afraid she'll be falling off or digging tracks in my carpet. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Answer
The prince lionheart wheelybug large sized. It is pricey but rides nicely. It is designed for kids ages 3-5, and weight up to 50lbs. My son who is an averaged sized nearly 8 year old ok his weight is slight 52 lbs, but he is 4'4 52 inches still rides this. It is like a scooter with wheels that turn in all directions. I like this so much I bought 2 for my sons ages 2 and 3 and 1 for my niece. They do roll nicely on carpet and are small and portable, and come fully assembled.

We have the cozy coupe too by little tikes, it does not accommodate my 52inch nearly 8 year old but would certainly fit a large 4 year old easily. We also have 2 of these.

4 year old diva?

Drummer Du

I have a 4 year old cousin who lives in the house next to me.She shops at Hollister,Pacsun,Aeropostale,Abercrombie,Abercrombie & Fitch,And Limited Too.She goes around the house singing ''I got my drink and my 2 step'.Which is really not for her age.She is SO divalike.I'll ask her if she wants to watch Dora,And she says 'No,Forget dora,Put on some I love new york!"'.How can i stop her from being this way?

Answer
You can't. Unfortunately her parents are the ones who are creating this monster. They will regret it first, when she's screaming because of some material item they cannot provide for her... but ultimately this poor child will pay the price for what they are doing to her. There just ought to be a test people must take before breeding!
Have you talked about your concerns with her parents?
This child will have nothing in common with other children her age and will stick out like a pregnant nun. Some parents will not be willing to allow her to play with their children, either... thinking she's been exposed to age inappropriate media content and they will want to try to protect their children from being around her because of it. Also- being taught that material things are to be highly valued isn't allowing her to develop personal/social skills, or values. (of course her mother may argue she knows the value of paying more for brand names? LOL) I see this all of the time where someone thinks teaching their toddler to act like an adult (and usually an adult none of us would want to ever have to spend time with) is funny. I have a friend who was raising a "little rocker" dude. Long hair, dressed like he belonged in a motor cycle gang, they let him use bad language and slap grown women on the behind! It was obnoxious, really. He was kicked out of EVERY preschool they tried. Because of the way he dressed and his very long hair when he finally got into Kindergarten he was teased mercilessly. By the time the parents got a clue and started teaching him some social skills and dressing him in ways to fit in a little better he was already a target for the rest of the kids. He's a very angry socially inept little boy today. It's such a shame, too. It's entirely his parent's fault. For not taking parenting seriously and being more concerned with how CUTE it was for their child to act outrageously. How COOL they felt as parents to teach him those things and be a "rebel". It sounds like your niece is in the same boat. Would YOU prize a grown up who was concerned about the name on the front of a store? Yeah, neither would 9/10 of the rest of the adult population. That poor, poor child! I do hope they get a clue and start thinking about what kind of human being they are raising her to be. Kids may be cute when they behave this way (perhaps...?) but as they get older it's NOT cute anymore. Unfortunately they aren't toy- they're humans. Being told for 4 years that this is adorable is shaping who she will be as an adult. It's not cute, they could well be ruining her chances for a happy life. People need to focus on making decisions as parents that build their children up, teach them the skills they need to have a happy, successful life, and to live within our social construct.

Activities for a 20 month old?

JustMyOpin

I have a 20 month old daughter. I'm trying to integrate early learning activities for her. She loves playing w/ her toys, watching Dora, Little Einsteins, etc. However, I just feel like she needs more stimulating activities during the day. We'll read books. I feel like I need more things for her to do, because, like most toddlers, her attention doesn't stay focused on one thing for too long. I just don't want her sitting around watching TV all day. We do painting sometimes, we'll go outside, and I'll give her some pots and pans while I'm cooking so she can "cook" w/ me on the floor w/ a spoon or something. I just basically try to involve her in what I'm doing. I'm planning to homeschool her when she reaches the appropriate age, but, in today's society, I feel like the more intellectual/developmental advantages I can give her, the better. Any moms (or dads) out there have any recommendations?

Answer
Make play dough. Mix 3 cups flour, 1 cup salt, 3 tablespoons oil, and 1 cup water together. Add food coloring for color. My baby cousin is 3 and she loves this because she thinks she is cooking. She also likes "goop". Mix cornstarch and water together until thick or thin (or both). Let her play with it in bowls with cups and spoons and baking pans and such. Also, she likes to finger paint with shaving cream mixed with food coloring. she loves the mess! I would do this outside on a nice day so nothing inside gets stained!! I haven't done this yet but my friend's daughter's preschool class makes "scenes" for the kids to act out with other kids (or with you). Create like an ice cream store using a table, cleaned ice cream containers, ice cream scoops, and cones made from paper. Or play at the "beach". Dress in bathing suits, and gather towels, sunglasses, a radio, and beach toys. You can also make a supermarket using empty food boxes and containers, play money, and shopping bags. Or school. Or whatever you want.
You could mark on your calender "special days" for the two of you featuring "special" activities like Goofey hat day, Funny Dress Day, Tea party day, Singing contest day, Funny Hair do day, Special mother/daughter walk day ( Walk around the block a few times teaching her about her neighborhood, Etc... I hope this helps.

Was Justin Bieber arrested?

AimePlus1D

I heard that Justin Bieber was arrested for hitting a photographer after a date with Selena Gomez. My mom said it to me a while ago and I kept hearing it in school, but then I checked it up on the interent and the only result that came up was one like a month ago or something with him hitting a photographer with a bag. Don't leave nasty comments about me liking Justin Bieber or calling him gay, fag , etc. !! I hate that s**t cuz most people hate him cuz he's a guy that write songs about girls and he is automatically gay.. Sounds like a loada b***s*** if you ask me !

Answer
Justin Bieber is not arrested nor is going to be. Justin Bieber and girlfriend, Selena Gomez were walking out of a store while they were getting in the car. As Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez got into their car while getting ready to go somewhere they needed to be several photographers surrounded around his car taking photo's making so that Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez could not drive. Justin Bieber got out of his car to kindly tell the photographers to please get out of the way. As one photographer in particular was trying to start a conversation with Justin Bieber. The photographer that was trying to start a conversation with Justin Bieber insulted his girlfriend, Selena Gomez asking how she got the herpes on her lip which was a cut. Justin Bieber got quite angry and intended to push him. You can get arrested if you were to throw something at them or hit them which would be known as assault but you can't get arrested for pushing someone especially if they do not fall onto the ground. The photographer should be the one to get arrested as since he was the one that was harassing Justin Bieber and his girlfriend Selena Gomez. Justin Bieber will not get arrested. If anything, he will be doing community service.

Where has Justin Bieber's dad been?

Daniel

Ok, I am not a Justin Bieber fan and I have nothing against him, but where was his dad? My sister is a fan and when she has watched the film not at one point do I recall seeing his dad. I don't want to sound judgemental but isn't it the littlest bit strange how he has appeared now that Justin is super famous? Don't hat me beliebers I'm saying it as I see it.

Answer
Justin Bieber's father, Jeremy Bieber did appear to be in Justin Bieber's film, Never Say Never. Throughout the middle of the film, it shows Justin Bieber performing "U Smile" on stage. While behind the stage it shows Jeremy Bieber crying seeing Justin Bieber perform for the first time and Justin Bieber's mother, Pattie Mallette going up to comfort him. Jeremy Bieber and Pattie Mallette were never married. As from listening to Justin Bieber's song, "Down To Earth" he says that his dad was always out of town. Justin Bieber fans don't know if Jeremy Bieber saw him every other day or didn't start seeing him until Justin Bieber became known. If Jeremy Bieber was always out of town that does explain why he was never in the picture.

What is one kids' toy......?

Princess P

that you think is extremely annoying??

Answer
Only one? I can't keep it to only one... here is my list

Furby
Light sabers & swords that make swashing or other such noises
Any soft toy where you squeze the tummy/hand etc and they say something disgusting like "your my best friend"
Those musical keyboards that you think are switched off but suddenly go "ding ding ding dong dong dong ping" at 1am
All and any Dora the Explora toys with sound
Anything that happily churps "try again"
Playmobil toys that consist of 3 millions tiny weeny parts that you have to put together for your child to enjoy - and later find embedded in the sole of your feet causing extreme pain
And playdoh that your kid insists you make shapes out of for him and you end up with it all under your nails and your hands stinking!!!
I could go on...

Why doesnt my 8 month old play with her toys?

im bored 2

My 8 month old will not play with ther toys! I buy her new toys all the time hoping they will interest her but she only plays with them for a little while. She only wants things like my phone the computer the remote and the dog bowl! And she follows me wherever i go in the house. Is this all normal? Also, what games do you play with your child at this age? what are they capable of learning? Thank you
And

Answer
I feel sometimes the same as you.But kids really are happy with the simple things in life...aren't we all, really!?

Let her be her.Play with her.
We rotate toys every month or so this way it is not so overwhelming. And we try and stick to things where you have to put in the work, like not some of those toys were all you have to do is push a button...boring!

At that age they love balls. We got a plush ball and it is a good size one and my daughter loved it at that age.Get some buckets of water, now that the weather is nice and fill them with bubbles. She will have so much fun.Have a party and bang on pots and pans with spoons.Finger paint with pudding.
Let her have an old phone of yours or a keyboard would be lots of fun too.Toys are so over rated. They learn better by what is around them, than with some toy we spend too much money for.

Their brains are like sponges, soaking up everything.Just follow her lead.

Cat Boxes and Toddlers . . . .?

Divine Oub

How you ladies keep your toddler away from the cat box? My one year old seems to be fascinated by our cats using it. We have it blocked of for now but how do you guys handle this issue?

Answer
Add into this the fact that if you don't have the litterbox right then the cat may rebel and use something like the baby's toys. For me, it was the same things we do to keep the dog out of the boxes.

-put them up. Cats can jump so much better than dogs, and toddlers can be stopped from climbing up fairly easily as well. This also gives the cat a much better view around so that they won't be surprised in the box and most cats like that.
-put them in an area that is blocked off by a baby gate. For instance, we have a gate across half of the room downstairs. In one half is the cat box, cat-door/dog-door, and the food and water.
-put something around the edge that makes noise and will alert you to your toddler or dog getting into it. Like bells, crinkle paper, etc. Cats will usually jump right over it, but your toddler will almost always hit it.
-clean it OFTEN. It's best to clean a litterbox 3x a day. It's not that hard, you just get a clumping litter and keep the shovel next to the box and a covered trash-can. When you walk by, you scoop and dump. Very easy. I keep the shovel on the inside of the trash-lid so that my daughter can't see it, or in a drawer next to the box. This means even if she DOES get in the box, she's not playing with the poop or pee, it's going to be clean 90% of the time. While it's still gross, it's far better than finding they put a cat poo in their mouth.

If your cat uses a covered box already, then that is an option. Or if your cat has no problem with using it in the closet. But there are problems that can happen there. Covered boxes don't air out right and are dark and have one opening. The result is that it can still be wet when the cat steps in (and some refuse to use wet litter), or the cat can become nervous of the toddler waiting just outside to grab them and refuse to put themselves in that trapped situation. The same with a closet (though my parents use a closet and don't have any issues with their cat, every cat is an individual.) Think of it like this. If you're a cat, and you go into the bathroom and the toddler who grabs and yanks you is waiting just outside, then you're trapped until help arrives. The result is you might look for an open area where you can make sure the toddler can't corner you like that, and go quickly there (like a laundry basket, the carpet in the hallway where they can run in 3 directions if the toddler approaches, or an open toybox/crib.) And while I've never had a problem putting the litterbox in the garage, I know some cats who refuse to use it out there unless it's been out there for most of their lives. Moving litterboxes seems to be something you need to do gradually or the cat won't always use it. Blocking off that area tends to be the safest route.

Add: Oh, if your cat won't jump the gate like someone suggested, just put the gate up a bit higher than normal so they can go under but the baby cannot. They also sell gates with a small cat-door at the bottom. :)

toddler toy help?

josh z

my girl has a dol she takes every where even to timeout or to punishment.
what would be the funest and best way to stop this?

Answer
honestly, i don't think you can. toddlers sometimes have a "lovey" that they take everywhere. it's a comfort object, and helps them to feel safe and secure. it will pass over time, but it is doubtful that you will be able to make her get rid of the doll anytime soon without an all out war.

i've read some great articles about loveys in parents magazine. you can check out their website and probably look up those articles. hope this helps!

Is it true that kid rock?

fixit

Is it true that kid rock is Hank Jrs. son?

Answer
NO!! kid rocks parents are from Detroit. Hank Jr has a son who has real talent his name is Shelton Williams (hank 3)...and this is what he has to say in one of his songs
"just so you know so its set in stone, kid rock don't come from where i come from, its true he's a yank, he ain't no son of hank, and if you thought so well g.d. you're effing dumb"

interview w/ hank 3:
Later on your new record, you take a pretty good shot at Kid Rock.
Yeah, well, that’s been going for a while, and he brought that upon himself, man.

So you’ve had a run-in with him?
Um … I’ve met him, back when he hit with that big song, and he came in, like, “You know, I’m the next Elvis.” I’m like, “Whatever, dude — the Beastie Boys have been around a lot longer than you have.” I first immediately saw that OK, this guy’s an asshole, and I can see why him and my dad get along pretty good. And then we came back through Detroit, and he kept trying to come on the bus — you know, him and Pam [Anderson], and all that shit — and I said, “Tell that motherfucker I got nothing to say to him,” and then he finally gets his way back in there and tells me how I need to be treating my father (Hank Williams, Jr., who Kid Rock has collaborated with), and I’m like, “All right, you just crossed the line motherfucker.” And I don’t know how many times I have to say it: “No, he’s not my fucking brother. He’s a goddamn Yankee from fuckin’ up in Detroit, and his dad runs Cadillac dealerships.” He’s got no blood relation to us at all.

kid rock's tattoos?

Jenn

I was in the Village & wandering one day. A friend & I we're checking out tattoo parlors. There was one on one of the major streets that I want to find. The artist had articles from magazines & newspapers of his work on Kid Rock. Anybody know who this is & where the shop is?
I don't have the magazine. The article was posted in the shop itself. & I know Kid Rock isn't a tattoo artist, I'm looking for the guy that did some of his tats.

Answer
"Kid Rock" is a hip hop, country, and rock star. married to Pam Anderson... he has a lot of tattoos, but he, himself is not a tattoo artist, and I don't think he actually has a "tattoo shop". I hope this helps, your question is a little confusing... I couldn't tell if you were looking for the name of a tattoo parlor, or looking for info on Kid Rock... they definitely are not one in the same.

Anyone dealing with Autism ?

AKA_sweety

Are there any parents out there with children that are autistic ?!
I would like to know the age that it was diagnosed ? And if there were any signs or symptoms that led you to suspect your child was autistic. My 3 year old son is verbally slower than kids his age.

Answer
My brother had 4 kids, two autistic.

The daughter (not diagnosed until almost age 5)is apparently an example of "regression" meaning she developed normally until about 18 months, when she began to loose what speech she had & withdraw from contact with others. 20 - 25% of all cases of autism develop like this.

My nephew was diagnosed around or just before age 3. I don't remember my nephew ever talking or behaving "normally." He seems to be an example of the 75 - 80% of all cases of autism.

There is much more to autism than speech delays. In fact, those with Asperger's Syndrome do not experience delays.

Social behavior such as eye contact is a more important. Does (or did) your son play peck-a-boo. Does he like to show you things ("look what I did" kind of behavior.)

Repetitive behavior such as hand flapping, spinning incessently or lining toys up instead of actually play with them. My nephew never played with toy cars normally but would turn them over & spin the wheels.

What is autism?

Jake R

can someone who knows someone with autism please tell me what it actually is. i want to become more aware about this subject so i can start telling other people about it.

i saw jenny mccarty on chelsea lately going wild about it a few nights ago.

Answer
Autism is a brain development disorder that impairs social interaction and communication, and causes restricted and repetitive behavior, all starting before a child is three years old. This set of signs distinguishes autism from milder autism spectrum disorders (ASD) such as Asperger syndrome.

Autism is highly heritable, although the genetics of autism are complex and it is generally unclear which genes are responsible. In rare cases, autism is strongly associated with agents that cause birth defects. Other proposed causes, such as childhood vaccines, are controversial and the vaccine hypotheses lack convincing scientific evidence. Most recent reviews estimate a prevalence of one to two cases per 1,000 people for autism, and about six per 1,000 for ASD, with ASD averaging a 4.3:1 male-to-female ratio. The number of people known to have autism has increased dramatically since the 1980s, at least partly due to changes in diagnostic practice; the question of whether actual prevalence has increased is unresolved.

Autism affects many parts of the brain; how this occurs is poorly understood. Parents usually notice signs in the first two years of their child's life. Early behavioral or cognitive intervention can help children gain self-care, social, and communication skills. There is no cure.Few children with autism live independently after reaching adulthood, but some become successful, and an autistic culture has developed, with some seeking a cure and others believing that autism is a condition rather than a disorder.

Autism is a developmental disorder of the human brain that first gives signs during infancy or childhood and follows a steady course without remission or relapse.

Autism appears to result from developmental factors that affect many or all functional brain systems, and to disturb the course of brain development more than the final product.

The word autism first took its modern sense in 1938 when Hans Asperger of the Vienna University Hospital adopted Bleuler's terminology "autistic psychopaths" in a lecture in German about child psychology.

Autism (say: aw-tih-zum) causes kids to experience the world differently from the way most other kids do. It's hard for kids with autism to talk with other people and express themselves using words. Kids who have autism usually keep to themselves and many can't communicate without special help.

They also may react to what's going on around them in unusual ways. Normal sounds may really bother someone with autism — so much so that the person covers his or her ears. Being touched, even in a gentle way, may feel uncomfortable.

Kids with autism often can't make connections that other kids make easily. For example, when someone smiles, you know the smiling person is happy or being friendly. But a kid with autism may have trouble connecting that smile with the person's happy feelings.

A kid who has autism also has trouble linking words to their meanings. Imagine trying to understand what your mom is saying if you didn't know what her words really mean. It is doubly frustrating then if a kid can't come up with the right words to express his or her own thoughts.

Autism causes kids to act in unusual ways. They might flap their hands, say certain words over and over, have temper tantrums, or play only with one particular toy. Most kids with autism don't like changes in routines. They like to stay on a schedule that is always the same. They also may insist that their toys or other objects be arranged a certain way and get upset if these items are moved or disturbed.

If someone has autism, his or her brain has trouble with an important job: making sense of the world. Every day, your brain interprets the sights, sounds, smells, and other sensations that you experience. If your brain couldn't help you understand these things, you would have trouble functioning, talking, going to school, and doing other everyday stuff. Kids can be mildly affected by autism, so that they only have a little trouble in life, or they can be very affected, so that they need a lot of help.

whats the kid rock song called where it goes..?

what type of bath tub shoudl I use for my 8 mth old?

nia

My daughter is sitting now and it's so difficult to bathe her in the normal infant bath tub, can anyone pls suggest or recommend a brand / type with a seat .Thanks!

Answer
I have the Fischer Price aquarium bath tub for my son. He is now 8 months old and this tub transforms to fit a baby anywher from newborn to toddler. Once they are able to sit on there own you can just fill it up and sit them in there without the netting. When they are little you keep the net up and then you can have the net half on half off when they are a little older and then eventually they can just sit in there on their own. I like it bc it comes with toys, one is even attached to the tub so its always their for them to play with. Its small enough to fit in the tub or you can fill it and bathe them anywhere. It's convenient and not that expensive I believe we purchased ours at Target for about $30. Good luck!

Traveling on airplane with 5 week old daughter?

Q. Hi everybody. Im thinking of traveling to Australia on a plane ex New Zealand with my 5week old daughter. I just want to know what will I need to take onboard with me.

It will be a 3 1/2 hour flight. Thanks

Answer
I'll repost an answer I gave a few months back to someone flying with a 4-month-old. I'm in the U.S., so your mileage may vary (har har) but hopefully some of this will help.

You need patience and good humor. An infant is a much better flying companion than, say, a toddler, because the infant isn't going to get up and run around.

Stuff to do:

Bring some hard toys that you can clean off easy. Get something like Target's paci-wipes, they clean dropped pacifiers and hard toys. Toys that are loud are probably a bad idea, but rattles are okay if they don't make too much noise. Bring plenty--and I mean plenty--of pacifiers, and invest in a couple of those straps you can loop onto the paci and clip onto baby's clothes. Baby stores and Target should have them but I've also found them in larger Asian marketplaces.

Diapers:

The rule of thumb is one diaper per hour of the flight and a large package of wipes. However, since bad things can happen with layovers, you probably want to bring more. You can use the wipes in a pinch to clean other areas of yourself and your baby besides her bottom.

Food:

You CAN bring powdered formula, just pack it in a big ziplock bag and be prepared to whip it out during security checks so they can dust the outside of the can for explosives. They didn't even open my container. I would bring it in the original labeled container as opposed to like a tupperware. They are not allowed to force you to drink any; if someone tries, report them to their superiors. You can also bring your own water to mix the formula; again pack it in a big ziplock and have it handy to whip out for dusting. Baby juice--same thing.

I'd bring a full container of formula, a brand new one if possible, because you never know if things go wrong with layovers and you need food for another day or so.

Clothes:

I put my baby in a long-sleeve shirt and pants with feet. This way, she didn't have socks to lose yet her feet were covered, and they were easy to just pull off as opposed to unsnapping all those snaps in sleepers. I also brought 3 extra outfits, several bibs, several burp cloths, a couple cheap washcloths I was willing to toss if need be, a jacket for my baby, and a couple hats in case it was cold in there. You never know what they'll spit up all over. :D I also brought two blankets I didn't mind losing.

Medicine:

The baby's ears will hurt upon takeoff and landing. Landing can take up to an hour, so be prepared for a long time of ear-popping. At those times, keep your baby swallowing, whether it's with formula, a little bit of juice (I know it's not recommended overall, but a half ounce while traveling is not going to hurt your baby, it didn't hurt mine and it kept her hydrated in the dry cabin) or water. Also, pacifiers help tremendously with the ears; the sucking helps break up the pressure.

Bring the infant painkiller of your choice. I gave her the Tylenol while sitting at the gate; this way, if her ears started hurting, the pain was mitigated. I don't like to give drugs to my baby, but she has had so little that I thought some preventative medicine was the only kind thing to do. Tylenol tends to put her to sleep so that was a bonus. Dunno about baby benadryl, not sure if that's safe to give a 4-mo-old.

Baby carrier:

I brought mine; was a lifesaver. I kept her strapped into it during takeoff and landing in case I had to get off the plane quickly (takeoff and landing are the most dangerous times). Getting her on and off the plane with my hands free to grab my bags was worth the carrier's weight in gold. I recommend Fischer Price's version; it's about 1/3 to 1/4 cheaper than the Bjorn and the baby's weight is supported by your hips--no back problems at all, and I have a bad back.

Extra bags:

Pack as light as you can of course, but that's hard with a baby. You may have to talk to your carrier re: bringing an extra bag for the baby, but if you show up at the gate with 3 bags, one of which is a diaper bag, I think most people should understand.

Checking stroller:

You can bring your stroller to the gate; they will check it at no charge for you once you get close to taking off.

Gotta echo the person who said to stay calm--it makes a huge difference!! Can't think of anything else; good luck with your flight!

Ride on toy for my 2 year old, any suggestions?

Dog wont stop chewing Kids' toys..?

Alicia Rus

Our English Mastiff puppy (about 10mths) wont stop chew the kids' toys. She has plenty of her own!! Our other dog, a 2 year old Black Lab, doesnt have this problem. Does anyone have suggestions?! please!
The kids are 5 & 3.. So, its difficult to keep them put away. I will try the substitution! thanks much Mike.

Answer
Make sure that your puppies toys are not similar to the kids (like stuffed animals) and never toys shaped like shoes and slippers. Not sure why its difficult for the kids to keep their toys picked up at age 3, they should be doing it...not you, but thats getting off topic. Every time the puppy grabs a child's toy, firmly say "drop it" and take it away. If you see her going toward your child's toy say "leave it". Giving an appropriate toy at this time will help reinforce what she is allowed to have.

One thing I did when my dog was a puppy was teach her boundaries. She learned she was not allowed in the bathrooms or my daughters room. That is great especially when the kids have friends over that are nervous with dogs. Our dog has a basket for her toys (though she never learned to pick up, but not for lack of tying on my part) that she goes to for a toy or bone. She will nose through till she finds the one she wants.

toys for the kids?

what's the hottest toys for infants, toddler boys and an 8 yr old girl??? What's the best that they never seem to get sick off???
my son is only 7 months but when he turns 1, whats the best toys??? I have the fisher price drop and roar dinosaur. i saw it and just had to get it

Answer
Kids like big toys it seems. Yes, big toys are more expensive but they don't seem to get thrown into the toy box after 20 minutes. One year olds like ride on toys and things like that. Toddler boys like the same thing. They also like places to hide such as forts and tents. As for an 8 year old girl--they're all different. Some like dress up and some like playing house and cooking with pretend food and some like make-up and dressing up Barbies.

why do so many people bash Nascar? do any of you think they're just in denial?

It's Slime

that they won't addmit that they too like Nascar?

i love Nascar, and everthing that Nascar has to offer. they make us fans feel as if we are apart of the Nascar family. i love to cheer for my favorite drivers (Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Juan Pablo Montoya, and David Reutimann).

to me there is nothing these nascar bashers can say or do that will have me walking away anytime soon.

just what is their problem, and why do they have to come here and bash us, and the sport?

Answer
I am not a basher, but I do not like NASCAR. I understand its incredibly popular and I have even sat down to watch it.

The reason I am even in this forum was to see if those hooligans were still around, they were bashing baseball the other day too.

I think a large part of NASCARs popularity comes with its ease of watching it on TV. Unlike soccer or hockey were it does not translate well to the television.

The bashing's came (from what i can tell) due to not having anything to talk about, their season is about to begin and they all got worked up. Then again maybe they just suck as human beings? who knows.

Nascar Nation question #7?

Rackpurdue

Okay I've got one more for tonight.
If you could introduce your favorite driver for an event (or whatever it may be) How would you do it and what would you say to describe him? Be creative and original (winner gets best answer)

Answer
Rack, I've done this several time with Dale Jr and the Make a Wish Foundation, Introducing him is easy, I just speak about what the foundation means to him..Its as if I'm floating, I'm always a person who never writes a speech its easy to introduce him. Especially with some of the parents and children in the audiance..Just seeing him with some of these children I have taken to the race tracks out here on the west coast..He is a softy, I actually had to call him one time and tell him, the child you were suppose to meet, passed away, it tore him up. Yes he has a very very sensitive side people. That one still hurts me. But its been fun to sit up on the pit box with a child and a parent, and yeah all the dang gals cussing at me for being with Dale Jr.. I can not describe his voice when I called him about the boy passing away, I can't even remember what I said, but he did call the parents and he spoke with them.. I don;t care what all you Dale Jr haters, and bashers say, this guy has a heart of gold..

Go Dale Jr & Hms......

Yeah...The Rays are going to the World Series..T-bone are you happy..

Babysitting a 6 year old girl?

Char

So it is my first time babysitting and I am babysitting a little 6 year old girl. All I know about her is that she is talkative. What are some games you think we could play? Also if she can't sleep what should I do? I just need advice!

Answer
Well, ALL six-year-olds are talkative, so that is normal. She will probably be a little shy at first, don't take it personal. For fun? Try hide-and-seek, or a board game, or watch a movie together.

Ask her mother what her normal bedtime routine is and try to get her to bed as close to that as possible. Let her take a warm bubble bath, that will help her relax. Read her a story. If she has a favorite toy she normally sleeps with make sure she has it. Make sure her night-light is on.

What can I do about my 6 year old son that wants to play with girl toys?

elaine

My 6 year old son has a room full of cars, superhero action figures, video games, etc., but he would choose to play with a doll or a girly looking stuffed animal over all of his boy toys. Most of my friends have girls so he has grown up playing with more girls than boys. Now that he is in a school setting, I thought he would have the opportunity to be exposed to more boys, but he still chooses to play with girls. When he gets to pick out a toy at the store, I have to steer him away from the girly action figures because those are his first choice. He has recently started talking about how pretty different girl dolls are so I am hoping he is just girl crazy?? Please help!

Answer
Well, I can see why your torn.

On one hand...He's just a kid. So why not let him play with whatever he wants?

On the other...If he says he likes to play with barbies ... or dolls at school he is likely to be teased for it. And theres always the underlying thought he might end up gay. Not that its completly bad (before I get shunned for saying it)..but its true, most parents don't want their children to be gay, even if they except it later.

If it were me, I would sit down with him and ask him why he likes the girl toys. And I would label them. If its pink, and girly call it a girl toy. Then if he still feels comfortable playing with them, and can say I like to play with girl toys and I don't care what other people think. Then...support him. Its his life.
