Is there going to be a 2009 Disney Channel Games?

liyah

every summer, the Disney Channel Stars all come together and compete against eachother in game competitons in DisneyWorld..i havent heard anything about it ? are they having it anymore?

Answer
There was just a conflict with the stars schedules this year...concerts, movies, etc. Unless you are with disney entertainment management there is no way of knowing if they are having the games next year or not. Any answer that you see here is a guess.

If you want to see the games next year, go to disney.com click on contact us and write an email.

teenage girls at disneyworld?

Marie J

What resorts would you recommend for two teenage girls at Disneyworld?
I really have no restrictions/preferences. (just a pool:]) lol.

Answer
As a recent teen, I particularly love the Boardwalk. It's on the pricey side, but it's got so much to do. When you walk through the lobby to the other side, you can see the entire Boardwalk, which is set like it's in the 1930s--there's restaurants, shops, and little stands for arcade/carnival games and more! At night, it really comes alive. There are street performers who do magic tricks or stunts that will take your breath away. On special occasions (i.e. New Years Eve, 4th of July, etc) there are cool dance parties and such. However, the Atlantic Dance Hall and Jellyrolls (Boardwalk's two clubs/bars) are 21 and older so you can't get in there. It's too bad because it seems like a lot of fun. There's also two pools: the big pool and the quiet pool. The big pool is called Luna Park, and it's really fun! (http://www.kingdom-travel.com/Walt_Disney_World_Resorts/_ResortAssets/BoardWalk_Villas/Disney_BoardWalk_Villas_Pool.jpg). There's a great slide and the poolside food and drinks are unbelievable (I recommend the Pina Colada). It's my favorite hotel because I always need something to do. I love being able to go out at night and just walk up and down the Boardwalk. It's very entertaining! Plus the rooms are very nice.

The best part is that the resort is about a five minute walk to either EPCOT or Disney's Hollywood Studios! You can just walk out of the hotel, stroll down the Boardwalk (no need to walk on the streets) and get to those parks easily! There's also boat transportation (the Friendships) that can take you there as well. I don't recommend them though--they take a long time because they make stops at Swan and Dolphin and the Yacht and Beach Club resorts). Walking is so much nicer! Also, if you want to head over to the Magic Kingdom, you can easily walk to EPCOT and take the monorail from there. You won't have to worry about renting a car. The only places you'll need to take the bus for are Animal Kingdom, Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon, and Downtown Disney.

Cheap, cute boy clothes?

Jamie's Mo

I just found out at 3 am I having a boy!! However, everyone with clothes and such to give me just had girls. Does anyone have any ideas on where to find cute, affordable (I'm a single mom) boy clothes that aren't covered in animals or balls or "got milk" stuff? Or really just clothes in general.

Thanks in advance!
I cant really afford new clothes, and they don't really wear them out when they're babies

Answer
I get my kid's clothes on ebay, garage sales, thrift shops, goodwill and such. When you search on ebay go to the category and size you are looking for and above the auctions in blue is where you can search different ways and do price+shipping equals lowest and you can find some good deals. I'm actually selling 0-12 months of boy clothes now for good prices. Old navy and marshalls have their clearance sales racks and I find stuff for cheap even starting at $1-$2 cheap. Also check out to see if your state does a jbf sale. JBF stands for Just Between Friends and it's tons of moms who bring everything from toys, cribs, walkers, strollers and clothes from newborn up to size 7 for kids and they put it in a big building and you shop them and they have some awesome prices! I just went to the one in my town last weekend and got 18 items for $68 and my kids now have winter coats, halloween costumes, shoes and clothes...plus the brands were gap, gymboree, osh kosh and mudd. If you would like to see any baby stuff I have up just contact me.
Good Luck!

Cheap Christmas gift ideas?

Mama J.

I know that it is early, but I always like to shop early before the rush. I have three children to buy for whom are son six, daughter nine, daughter twelve, and a fourteen year old stepson... also my hubby, and we pick names from the rest of my extended family for each person in my household. Here are the characteristics of the people we picked: 3 teenage boys whom are my nephews, my 21 year old niece, four month old nephew (the easy one!), and my sister whom is in her early late forties.

Any ideas on how to save money this year, cheap gift ideas etc. would be appreciated greatly!

What is the toy I saw on TV?

That's TUR

Ok, I need for someone to give me the link to this toy. It is a little robot with a camera on it, and I remember how the commercial goes. It also has an eyepiece and it can also hear sounds.

There is a kid using it, he drives it into the kitchen and it shows a woman talking on the phone saying that he could go to his friend's house.

P.S. It is NOT the Rovio!

best dog for hunting and farm life with kids?

Bob Marley

a vizsla, weimaraner, german short-haired pointer and tell me why
OK honestly i asked about those 3 breeds not the kind of dog you have so if u dont know about these breeds no thanks

Answer
I have a GSP, and he is a fantastic dog, calm, loving, smart, and not typical of the breed. They are generally pretty highstrung, intent on one thing, BIRDS!, and sidetracked easily. Same for Vizsla and Weimaraner. They attach to one person, and can be snippy with kids.
Try a border collie or blue or red healer (australian cattle dog). They are smart, loyal, quick, and bred specifically for farm work. It's what they were meant to do. Give them a job and they are happy.

How to make a living from Farming?

NoOneKnows

I hope to one day have a farm of my own...

I would make my money and income from the following:

* Cattle for milk and meat production
* Breeding and Selling live cattle to other farmers
* Chickens for eggs, and meat.
* Breeding and selling chickens
* Sheep for wool and meat
* Breeding and selling sheep
* Ducks
* Geese
* Goats
* Turkeys

Do you think it would be profitable for me to also grow things?
what type of crops, fruit, veggies etc, make the most sales and income?

Where can I find information about farming, the equipment I need etc... ?

Any advice? I have been around farm animals and farm life since a was born...

Thanks

Answer
To make money from farming, all you have to do is marry rich.

I'm just kidding. Kind of. The truth is, in today's world of agribusiness it is possible to make a living from farming, but it is difficult.

Often farmers will have several crops they grow. The reasons for this is some land is better suited to one crop than another (even in the same geographical area), diversifying crops helps better shield you from bad years in a certain crop (hail damage, drought, pests, etc.), and prices can often help you choose what to grow year-to-year (for example, if corn prices are high, you'll want to grow more corn because you'll get more money for it).

That being said, having a wide range of crops or livestock can also be difficult and work against you. Every crop and every type of livestock has at least some specific equipment and knowledge necessary to produce. For example, you can't harvest wheat with a cotton picker. So if you grow both of those crops, you're going to need double the equipment, which will at least double your costs. Farming equipment is expensive, so it can be difficult to be that diverse, especially in today's world of agriculture where your operation has to get big or get out. Farmers with less than 1000 acres are considered hobby farmers, and land is expensive (hence my original answer, you should marry rich or marry a farmer, haha).

It's good that you're interested in agriculture though. If you are still in primary/secondary school, I highly recommend you take an ag class if they have one, join a local 4-H club to learn about livestock production and leadership, and join your local FFA chapter (formerly known as Future Farmers of America). These organizations allow you to gain firsthand knowledge of farming and livestock production, as well as practice leadership, public speaking and other life skills that will be useful, and will also look good on your resume as you start to build one.

If you are college age, I recommend you take an Agricultural Economics class. Not only is it interesting, but it covers a lot of the topics you are asking about in regard to profitability of crops and livestock, necessary equipment etc.

My Ag Econ class is the most interesting class I took, which is why I'm going to be starting my master's in Ag Econ next year!

Also you can talk to your local co-op or extension service. Find out what the Agricultural & Mechanical (A&M) or state college is in your state. They will likely have an agricultural extension office and often a 4-H extension office that can help you learn more about agriculture.

Finally, read, read, read! Look up the Farm Outlook report (google Farm Income Outlook, Economic Research Service). It has great information about the current state of agriculture in the United States (assuming your'e in the US).

And don't forget to think about agriculture! See a cattle ranch while driving? Stop by and ask if you can talk to the producer. Ask questions! Be interested! Attend state fairs, 4-H shows, cattle auctions, other livestock auctions. Look up the prices livestock are getting in your area.

Crop and livestock prices change year-to-year, so it's difficult to tell you what is most profitable because it depends.

Don't forget about opportunities in international agriculture, either. As the world population is increasing, and developing and underdeveloped nations try to meet the rising food demand, agriculture is needed and there are many agencies, non-profits, and businesses aimed at fulfilling these needs.

More people should be interested in agriculture like you, and although farming is a hard way to make a living, it can be done. Others choose agriculturally-related careers that do not include farming (such as agricultural sales. GMO crops, feeds, agricultural products, livestock handling systems...they're all related to agriculture, and somebody has to sell them/produce them/buy them/market them!)

Others choose careers not related to agriculture at all, but still remain connected through their family farm, often as an absentee owner (they still own the farm, but they lease out the fields to neighbors to use, rather than farming themselves).

Good luck!! Agriculture is fascinating! I can't stress enough the importance of reading! READ READ READ AS MUCH AS YOU CAN!!! :D

need ideas for a class of young kids?

sweet-star

so im going to be teaching a small class of litto kids soon, and im looking for some fun activities that i could do for them.the age ranges from 3-4 years old,and i also have a couple of 7-8 year olds.
what kind of stuff would they like to do? something that will make them love my class, and make it memorable and fun/silly for them.i have about four girls, and five boys.
suggestions anyone?
ten points to my best answer (:
xo

Answer
Well, all kids want to do is play,

So you can have activities such as having them paint pictures or decorate cupcakes.
Kids can stay busy for hours and hours on end with painting or making cards.
They like to play hide and seek and kid games like hot potato.

For the older ones you can have competitions like who can build the best rocket ship from cardboard and normal art materials for kids and the prize can be sweets but be sure not to let the others feel like losers. the winning team may for eg. get 2 sweets each while the losing team can only get one each.

Make sure that you have enough stuffed toys around and plastic cars, dolls and maybe one or 2 dollhouses.

Then you will be taken care of.

How Do I Upgrade My Room From a "Kid's Room" to a "Teen's Room"?

drummercan

Like, I really need to clean it up. I've got a bunch of stuff from when I was a little kid "Action Figures, toys, stuffed animals, toy guns, ect" and i need to clean it up and make it look cooler. Help me out? I'm 12 btw.

Answer
First and foremost, definitely go through your toys and clean a lot of them out. A good rule of thumb to help you with this is to look at each one separately and try to remember the last time you used it. If you haven't touched it in more than two years, get rid of it. You can give your old toys to a younger sibling, cousin, or neighbor; donate them to a charity; or sell them in a garage sale. If you have some things you're not quite sure you want to get rid of yet, put them in a special box and put the box away in a closet or the attic for a year. If you find in that year that you want or need that stuff, bring it back, but if you go a whole year and don't think about it, you can safely get rid of it. Keep in mind that you may want to hold on to a few things as memories of childhood (I'm an adult and I still have my teddy bear from when I was a baby--I keep it next to my bed).

Once you've gotten rid of the things you don't need any more, organize everything that's left. Just putting things away in boxes in your closet or on a shelf can make you room feel a lot more grown up.

Now for the fun parts: painting your room is a cheep way to make it feel new, although you'll need a parent to help you out. Pick a color you love--don't worry too much about being cool. Also, if your sheets or curtains still have rocket ships on them, buying some new ones can be a cheep, quick way to change things around. Then find some posters you like and put them up on your walls.

Last but not least, consider re-arranging the furniture in your room. It sounds like it shouldn't make much of a difference, but if your bed has been in the same place since you were five, moving it can make you feel like you have a whole new room.

what happen to all the toy stores?

TREBOR.

when i was growing up there was like 3-4 toy stores in the mall, now they've all moved or went out of business, there's nothing but clothing stores, and then we wonder why our kids are so screwed up, and hanging in the streets its like there childhood has been taken from them, you hardly see kids playing street football, or doing kid stuff, seems most want to be a stupid ass thug, it just aint right, we are totally losing our youth.

Answer
Walmart, Kmart, Target, Meijer, thats wut happened to all the toy stores. The mom & pop stores can't compete with the big box stores. Sad but true the other thing is kids just don't get out and play like they did when we were kids. they are on their computer games. The neighbor kids were lookin for something to do and i suggested kickball in the field behind the houses. Parents would not let their kids come out and play because because there would be no adults there and someone might kidnap their kids. I volunteered to supervise. we put up posters and set a time. It took a couple of weeks for word to get out and for parents to ease up and get enough for 2 teams but now we have 3 games goin 2 or 3 times a week. alot of parents are joining in now too. We all have a great time.

How do you went to choose toys for your kids ?

Did you have a Barbie, or a GI Joe when you were a kid?

Liz

I had a barbie, but none of them survived the torture of hair pulling, and experiments performed by my brother.

Answer
I had "several" G.I. Joes and other figures when I was a kid. They all perished in a "suspicious" fire though. I think I saw my next door neighbor's Barbie and Ken dolls fleeing the scene. It was dark and I couldn't make a positive I.D.

What kind of toys does your two year old play with.?

Proud mom

I have a 21 month old daughter. She be turning two December 1 and we got christmas the same month. Right now I am planning and thinking of head want kind of toys to get her. I know she tired of the toys I have right now which still baby stuff. I will be getting all those toys gone and get her all new toys for her birthday and christmas.

What does your two year old like to play with espically girls. Are they playing baby dolls at this age. I would like to get her a play kitchen but we have limited room right now.

Answer
My niece just turned 3 and she plays with the same toys now as she did when she was 2.

Baby dolls
Mega blocks
Toy Kitchen w/ buggy and plastic foods
Art supplies
Toy computers and cash registers
Tricycle or other ride on toy
Age appropriate books and puzzles

While a lot of little girls like baby dolls at that age some don't. Even though she's a little girl she may still like "boy" toys like cars and toy tool benches. My niece absolutely loved those type of toys along with her baby doll.

What's a great toy for two twin two-year-old boys?

emijea4

Christmas present brainstorming for my nephews - so far, I haven't got a clue. Help! : )

Answer
Do they have blocks? Two is a great age for blocks, and it's the type of toy that either can use alone but that is also wonderful for playing together and promoting sharing. Because there are a lot of pieces, it also means that they can play simultaneously, even if it's just parallel play, and they don't have to do a tug-of-war fighting for the same toy.

Another bonus: you can get some great "natural wood" blocks that the parents needn't fear were made with lead paint, etc. and that were not made in China. There's so much out there now with the safety of what's in our toys (and an article today reports some scary testing results that goes way beyond the recent recalls!) that it's difficult to buy for kids, and it's difficult to parents to direct other relatives/friends to things that are appropriate gifts. (The age labels on toys, incidentally, should be followed -- for the most part toys are labelled as appropriate for a particular age not because of developmental reasons but rather because of safety ones -- no parent will be insulted if you buy a two year old a toy that's "for children 18 months and up" but may well put a gift that's for "ages three and up" on a closet shelf for the next year.)

Whatever you do buy, take a look at country of origin -- toys made in the U.S. or in European countries are fine, but you shouldn't buy toys that are made in China.

THAT being said: before you buy anything for them, I would ask their parents if there is anything in particular that they would like the children to have, or anything to avoid for that matter. Especially in light of the recent toy recalls and all the news, the parents might have very particular ideas about what's okay and what's not okay, even more so than usual!

Building a cardboard & duct tape boat for physics, tips?

me

My partner and I weigh 240 pounds combined, and we can only cover 1/3 of the boat with duct tape. It has to float me and my partner and travel across an olympic sized swimming pool.

Thank you!

Answer
hey, i've done this before, the only difference is that we had to race other boats, but luckily for you, my boat won :D

What we did, along with the 2nd place finishers (we were the only boats that didnt sink), was make our boat a lot longer than it was wide. this made us have less need for an abundance of cardboard (but if you want to use it all, just reinforce the bottom). we had it like 2 feet wide, 8 feet across, and walls tall enough to be shorter than your shoulder-height while sitting down, with a fully ducttaped bottom, and duct taped like a foot up the outside walls. The main part that you're going to want to duct tape the part thats in the water, as if the cardboard gets soggy, you're kinda sunk.

A narrow design makes for quick travel, little resistance in the water, and a sleek look which is great for bonus marks :P.

Have you and your partner sit apart from each other, keeping weight evenly distributed throughout the boat.
___________
|__x____x___> the x's mark where you should sit in the boat.

remember, paddles are equally important, you could just take square slabs of extra cardboard, and tape them to your hand. this will work great. Try not to lean too far over the sides of your boat, because theyre the weakest.

Good luck! hope i helped!

should i make a duct tape boat?

Q. so i was searching the web for a reasonable dinghy to have to use once in a while to go fishing and what not or just to ride around in. but im not a man of money. i figured it would be cheaper to buy around 20 rolls of duct tape and some wood. if i constructed a wooden boat frame and used duct tape to cover it as a hull, would this be practical? would it last a while or fall apart after a use or 2? and also for a 2 person dinghy that is that is about 4' wide at the top,5' long, and 3' tall, would i need that much duct tape? thanks yallz!

Answer
a duck tape boat would be very temporary, maybe one or two uses. you will be better off building a simple boat. here are some inexpensive designs

Angel Tree-The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program provides new clothing or toys for children of needy families, with angel tree’s often found in high-traffic areas such as malls, churches and corporations. Each tree is decorated with numbered paper angel tags with the first name, age and gender of a child who will receive the gift. To sponsor a child from the Angel Tree, simply remove one or more tags from the tree and purchase appropriate gifts for the child or children described on the tags. The organization displaying the Angel Tree is also the collection point or drop-off location for all gifts.

Toys for Tots- The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program helps needy children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; playing an active role in collecting and delivering a shiny new toy at Christmas. Local toy collection campaigns begin in October and last until December 22, with toy deliveries normally taking place on December 23 and 24. Community members drop new, unwrapped toys at toys for tots locations, which are collection boxes positioned in local businesses. These toys are stored in warehouses, sorted by age and gender, and then delivered to needy children at Christmastime.

Operation Christmas Child- Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to needy children around the world through shoe boxes or small plastic containers filled with unwrapped toys, school supplies, candy and other gifts, then shipped to needy children overseas with a personal note included. Suggested gift ideas include toys like small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, and toys that light up and/or make noise. Christmas gifts of pencils, pens, crayons, markers, coloring books and other art supplies are encouraged, as are gifts of toothbrushes, toothpaste, bar soap, and other personal care, hygiene items.

Make a Wish Foundation- You can make this holiday season special for children dealing with life-threatening medical conditions and illnesses by your generous donations to the Make a Wish Foundation of America Adopt-A-Wish program, thus helping a child’s dream come true. Make a Wish’s unique holiday donation options help grant the wishes of children, creating special memories for the wish child and family. Those who adopt a wish by making a donation are provided a unique and special story of how your donation bought joy to a wish child.

My Two Front Teeth- My Two Front Teeth is a non-profit, charity organization that provides donated toys to underprivileged children in daycare, preschools and community agencies. You can donate toys online; just sign up to receive an email notification prior to the holiday season, choose a child to sponsor and purchase and donate toys to children in need via My Two Front Teeth. My Two Front Teeth offers a personalized, online gift-giving experience to aid underprivileged children. Children are selected through community organizations and allowed to individually pick their one holiday wish.

The Christmas holiday season is fast approaching, so start an annual tradition of charitable giving, donating toys and other items to needy children and families. Setting the right example and role-modeling heartfelt giving, volunteering to help serve holiday meals in shelters or soup kitchens for the homeless, children are less likely to grow up with a serious case of entitlement and will have better appreciation and gratitude for what parents have done for them throughout the years.

How good US KIDS golf clubs are?

Nokia

Can you compare them with name brands like Calloway?

Answer
They are good for the very beginner and younger kids while they are still growing so fast. I bought a set for my daughter when she was 7 or 8. Once they get older and are hitting the ball pretty good you will probably want to invest in a better set that really fits them and their swing. It has been my experience that you get what you pay for in golf clubs. Calloway's are for sure great clubs. I would not put US Kids clubs in the same category with Calloway. It all depends on the rate of improvement of the kid and what you are willing to spend.

Creating a Kids Night Club?

Miss_Emmy

Me and my friends want to create a Kids Night Club run By Kids For Kids. The Thing Is- We Don't know how to get started. Does Anyone Have Suggestions On How To Get Started.
Me and my friend want to start a teens club run by teens for teens. Pretty much just a place where teens can meet each other and hang out. We would obviously need a lot of money to start something like this and we wouldnt just have complete teenage staff. We wouldnt have any type of gang violence, drugs, or alcohol inolved because that would be crossing the line, but how do you start something like that? We could even have a day time weekend cafe.

Answer
Sounds good for the kids, you need to keep out the trouble makers Find people who can keep control of the situation. You have to get a permit. I have seen stories about retired businessmen who Volunteer their time helping people with businesses . Check to see if there is a program in your city. Keep looking you will sooner or later make the right contacts..

Kids ATV Ages 13-15?

Selena

OK well, im not a kid but a teen, 13-15, what kind of ATV should I get, I don't want one too small or too big. Please help!! Thank you! A link would also help.

Answer
my cousin is only 14 and she rides a 350cc. i'm 18 and i'm riding a 500cc(mostly for work). depends on if you want speed, 4weel drive, power. if you want speed you prabably want 2 go with a blaster, if you want 4 weel drive, its hard to say it jsut al;l depends on what you want the atv for.

if you want an atv for moving logs, going through mud, pushing snow(plowing) disking food plots(for hunting) disking your garden, going mostly in the woods, farm work. Hard stuff like that you probably want 4 weel drive anywere from 250-500cc

if you want to have speed, agility, racing, trixed out a little, out running cops? lol, you prabably want a atv 100-250(blaster and other racing atv's like that)

What is your ferret's favorite toy?

Waterfowl

I'm trying to come up with some great toy ideas for my two baby boys, they just turned 1 year at the end of May and are getting bored with some of their old toys. I recently found Ralph, one of my boys, playing with a little rubber coinpurse I got at the bank for free! They're so easily entertained, but when I want to think of a toy it seems impossible. Any ideas? ♥
You all are helping a ton! The stairs would be so fun, and Ralph's current favorite toy is the tennis ball. He runs around carrying it everywhere!

Answer
My two fuzzies are so cheap when it comes to toys. They love old socks (with knots tied in them), card boxes, plastic bags and tunnels. They also like the used hoses from my grandpa's oxygen. Just remember to use common sense, if they chew and swallow it don't let them play with it. My little girls likes fury cat mice, she hides them everywhere (in shoes, the dirty clothes, in the pillow cases). They also like the PetStages brand toys from PetSmart or PetCo, their favorite are the orange rubbery worms (cat toy) and the blue bones (puppy toy). The only bad thing is that they can be expensive, about $5 each. My ferrets also like playing games. My girl likes fetch, well she doesn't bring it back but it's pretty close to fetch. My boy LOVES magic carpet rides. I lay out a blanket or towel and put him on it them drag it around the room.

If your ferrets are becoming bored with their toys, take half of them and put them up. Rotate them every 4-6 months. Your fuzzies will think they're new toys. You can also wash the toys so they smell different.

But remember the best toy for your ferret is you! My ferrets would rather play with me than each other.

Good Luck!

What is a good age to start homeschooling for preschool?

C O

I have decided to not send my girls to preschool because I've always wanted to be a teacher. My daughter is almost two and can count to five recongnize letter and loves to color. I have a ton of books but when is it time to get serious because I only plan to do it for a hour or so at a time.

Answer
Sounds like you have already begun. Your daughter is counting, coloring and doing other activities with you and she's learning. Homeschooling isn't about sitting at a desk with a pile of books. Believe me, that time will come (maybe---some children learn and never sit down with textbooks)
When my children were little, I read to them from lots and lots of books, including history, art, fiction, biographies, non-fiction, and lots of Dr. Seuss. I had a few activities books that I would with them, usually only one/day. Sometimes in the morning after breakfast, or on cold/rainy days after lunch. We spent a lot of time outside learning about nature, collecting leaves, playing in the sand, and that kind of thing. In the afternoon we frequently did an art project, made leaf rubbings , collages, etc. Your toddlers and preschoolers are always learning. I did lapbooks with them and we wrote a language experience story usually once a week. This prepared my children with creative writing. They would dictate their stories to me and I wrote the exactly as they were quoted to me, grammatical errors and all. Then they illustrated their stories. Even my toddlers loved "reading" their books to Daddy when he came hope and grandparents when they came over. As they got older, I helped edit their stories for errors and content, teaching them new words to use to make the stories longer and more interesting. By 3 my oldest took an interest in reading so we started playing phonics games and I did a phonics workbook with him, at his guidance, not my insistence. He was reading beginner books within a few weeks. My youngest didn't start to read until he was 7 1/2 and wasn't a proficient reader until age 9. But he was still learning. And by 10 he was reading on grade level even though he was a late bloomer.

At this time, enjoy your time with your toddler, let her be your guide. You don't have to get "serious" to introduce her to the joys of learning, If you have an activity book that she finds interesting 10-15 minutes at a pop is probably sufficient. If she asks to do another book, or another page, go for it. If not, move on to active learning. She has many years of school learning ahead of her. Don't burn her out to learning before she really even needs to begin. Remember your daughter is learning in every hands on activity you do with her. Sorting silverware, taking a walk, making cookies or playdough, and just playing with her favorite toys. Talk together, sing together, read together. Just be together. All too soon you will wake up and find your beautiful little toddler is a lovely 20 year old young woman. Don't waste those precious moments forcing her to to grow up too soon.

Do you let your toddler/preschool son play with dolls?

Know your

I am a 31 year old mother to three children, ages 3 1/2, 2 1/2, and 9 months. Lately my 3 1/2 year old has been into playing with my 2 1/2 year old daughters cabbage patch kid. I have NO PROBLEM with this at all. I think it sparks his imagination, creates sensitivity, and is perfectly appropriate for his age. This is not my issue personally. It's my mother-in-laws. Today, I mistakenly brought up the subject during a conversation and she said "why do you let him play with dolls, when he has all those trucks, trains, and tracks to play with?" I said that I was ok with it. And she said that her boys never played with dolls, that they played with cars and never wanted to play with thier sister's dolls. Then she said "Don't you think that it looks gay for a little boy to have a doll?". I said "are you saying my 3 year old is gay"? And it escalated into a verbal confrontation. This has happened to between us with other issues in the past. The whole "back and forth" exchange was not good...
I was at my breaking point and demanded that my husband take myself and our children home. She all but accuses me of being a bad mother and she is so passive aggressive, that she can't come out and just say what she wants to say. I hate it!!! It's so frustrating!!! So...do you let your little boy play with dolls?

Answer
We don't own any dolls persay...we have 2 boys. But they do have stuffed animals that they love. My oldest (he's almost 4) has Sheepie, that is a female sheep that he is so gentle with. I don't have a problem if he does play with dolls. He plays with them at his friends' houses, and in our church nursery which I think is totally fine. He was more into picking up a doll when we first had our 2nd baby...wanting his own baby to take care of.
The head of the daycare that he used to go to said she noticed a huge difference between when the boys were 3 to 4. At 2 & 3 it didn't matter which kind of dress up clothes they wore and which toys they played with...at 4-5 that totally changed and they began playing more traditional gender based (not encouraged, just something that happened).
I also remember my aunt talking about her grandson who had a doll to cuddle at night, saying he was starting early having a woman beside him :). (He was 2 at the time...he's now 13 and very much into girls)
I do think that there is a larger underlying problem here that isn't at all about dolls, but rather between you and your m-in-l. She seems to have very definate ideas about what is and isn't okay for kids that are different than your own. I just want to encourage you that these are your kids and you are making your best decisions raising them. You probably aren't going to change her mind about her opinions but if there is a way that you can take in her ideas, not accepting them, but just listening to her (and venting later to your husband if neccessary) as a way to make peace. She may be more apt to listen to you, if you listen to her too. There has to be some common ground somewhere...after all she did raise your husband. You don't have to be like her, and you can do what you like with her words, still trusting that you are the parent of these kids and you know in your heart what is best for them. I hope that makes sense to you and helps somewhat. Cheers!

Do conservatives ever get tired of being wrong?

thomas_pai

Ohio CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN Senator Rob Portman changed his position on gay marriage.

Now that he knows his son is gay, he supports gay marriage. Just like Dick Cheney did.

Wow. They just barely got it. I learned about fairness and equality when I was a toddler.

CNN Exclusive: One conservative's dramatic reversal on gay marriage

=====================
Dreaded rear admiral,

I think most liberals learn about equality and fairness when they are toddlers. Conservatives don't get it until they are in their 40s, if ever.

Answer
"Wow. They just barely got it. I learned about fairness and equality when I was a toddler."

Wow. Every other toddler I've seen screams when you take away their toys. You probably composed sonnets at 2 1/2, too.

When would you hire a nanny?

Paris

I'm going to be a teen mum and I obviously haven't finished school! I will need to hire a nanny and maybe enroll in a daycare? I don't want to rely on my family and friends for childcare services. I'm wanting to get prepared in the next month so that for most of the pregnancy I can focus on school. I was wondering if this sounded OK to you? I'm due around October 8 which is the beginning of term 4 so, I would finish school for 2013 at the end of term 3. I would be going back to school at the beginning of 2014. My dad wants me to hire a nanny a few days a week, so we came to an agreement of Nanny from 7am-5pm on Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday and the Daycare from 8am-4pm Thursday and Friday. These times are not exact/definite and we have already arranged the school absence. What do you guys think? Is it ok to put my child Daycare and have him/her stay with a nanny? Money is not an issue for my family.

Thanks...Please No Hate!!!
One of the reasons that I chose both was because I want my child to socialize at a young age etc. (Day Care) and I want my child to have a bond with an adult outside the family forever (I myself had a nanny and I love her dearly, as I grew up she and I were extremely close and still are)

Answer
To me a nanny and daycare is a bit much. When the baby is a toddler he/she will have rules at daycare, rules with the nanny and you. That's to much. Hire a nanny full time if you can afford it. She can take your child to story times at a library (great for making friends and fun for the kids), zoo, gym class, park, etc. your kid will still be around other kids. Also with a nanny, your kid can nap in his/her own bed, will have own toys, same routine and tons of one on one time., can have play dates .

Nanny over 20 years old. $10-12 hr.

I'm a nanny. The kids and I stay busy doing crafts, playing sports, going to story times, gym class, park, scavenger hunts, I teach them there basics needed for kindergarten , they have made friends from gym and story time, we go to Kid centers that are ok for toddlers as young as 1 up to elementary age, they are on a good schedule and we do change the schedule up at times so there not always doing the same thing, etc......

what are some fun toddler activities... im a SAHM and i think my kids are getting bored! please help!?

bisexual_b

I have been a stay at home mother for a little over a year now, and i really think my children are getting bored. i am a full time student, but i do not do my class work until after the children are in bed. i have 2 daughters that are 16 months and 30 months.. they would both be able to do toddler activities, as my 16 month is highly advanced ( according to her docs. bc she speaks in sentences and knows about 50-75 words and can count to 10) anyways, sorry that was a little off topic, what are some fun and educational type activities that i can do with them. i need something low budget since i dont have an income being a SAHM.

any tips would be great!

Answer
i am also a sahm and we do with my 2 year old lots of things like drawing (pens, paints, finger paints),reading tons of various literature(folk, rhymes, fairy-tales, foreign lng. books for kids of that age), developmental toys(many of which you can make youself), learning by flash-cards(i also do some of them myself),watching various pics and talking about them, watching family albums, examining maps(ordinary),playing synthesizer and some other kids musical instruments(i play for her simlpe kids songs and she hits and punches the keys too), she is even entertained when i sing karaoke songs for her, also phys. activities with balls, fit-ball, hide-&-seek, running arond the room, etc.,dvds( 1 for entertaining and 2 short developmental like for teaching counting or ABC, or foreign.lng./ per day), involving her into cooking or other running-the-home activities,we also go for a walk twice a day and visit a developmental group twice a week...
