Is lala loopsy a good toy for a 7/8 year old girl?

Q. My youngest sister has been asking for one of these, but on the toys r us website said the toy would be more for girls ages 4-6, so I was wondering if this toy would still be fun and interactive for a little girl who's a little bit older than 6.

Answer
The manufacturer recommends this toy for children up to ages 8 - even 9 and 10, depending on the child. This is one of the hottest toys this year and I found a good write up on it - see source.

Perfect toy for an 8-10 year old girl?

Mags

Hey I'm looking for gifts for a women's shelter for kids. Apparently they have a lot of kids coming and going with their mothers that have nothing to do. My age group is 8-10. I already have a gift for boys, but I need something for girls. Any suggestions? I live in an area where there would be hispanic people staying at the shelter, so I think Hannah Montanna anything wouldn't be a great idea. Help!? Should be like a doll or something small that different children can use.

Answer
Children in a women's shelter are under a great deal of stress. Soft stuffed toys they can cuddle are great. Also, very good would be coloring books, and crayons, or markers. Coloring is a proven stress reliever. Very good for children in that situation.

toy story or monsters inc?

nikita

which do you prefer? i personally can't decide haha

Answer
Toy story.Best Disney film. Ever.

Toy Story is not only the best Disney film because it has the best story and the best animation, but also because of the excellent actors chosen to provide the voices of the animals. The casting was perfect from top to bottom, and the movie provides an excellent adventure story about friendship and loyalty that keeps you engrossed until the nail-biting climax.

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen provided excellent voices for Woody and Buzz Lightyear -their performances alone are one of the biggest things that made this such a spectacular movie. Besides that, though, you have the excellent story that is not only noteworthy because it has never really been told from this perspective before, but also because it was just told so well. All of the characters in the film are very well developed and all have appropriate and effective actors chosen to provide their voices.

And of course, who could forget the revolutionary animation! The computer animation used for this movie not only made it startlingly realistic but also opened up tons of possibilities, and thankfully the filmmakers chose to explore these possibilities. There are dozens of things that are hidden in the woodwork throughout the film, as well as in the songs â note, for example, the subtle playing of the Indiana Jones theme song in the scene where Woody knocks Buzz out the window with the desk lamp.

Toy Story is by far the best Disney film ever made, it's pretty much perfect. It's adventurous, it's exciting, it's entertaining, it's good for the whole family, it's got great characters, story, and plot, and above all, it's fun.

Should I buy the Toy Story Collection Woody or Buzz?

I only have money for one of them. I will buy the other later. They're collectibles.

Answer
I would buy Woody first, since he is the original character he will probably be more popular, which means that he will be the one to sell out faster. (If my assumption is correct)
Since they are collectibles, they won't make them for very long, most likely.
So, you definitely to get the money to buy them both!
And yeah, you need to make sure you care for the box so that the toy isn't damaged.
If you sell it in like, fifty years, people we want the one's that have a box in perfect condition, because that will mean the actual toy is better.
Keep in mind the popularity of the toy, and decide which you should get based on which one is selling fastest.

do you think 11 year olds are so childish and immature?

nelle_de

Well,I'm 15 but I'm friends with an 11 year old and I remember how it was when I was that age.I hate it when people think and say that 11 year olds are so immature and too young.Just because you see ONE 11 year old being so immature dosen't mean that all of them are like that. It isn't like the old days today.Alot has changed. They are discovering and open to more and more than it used to be back then.Preteens could go through puberty as young as 8 now.[for girls] So one COULD be fully developed by age 11.It depends how you were raised. Mature:girlfriends/boyfriends.Immature:eeeeww!
Mature:something that looks cute and shows my figure[shopping] Immature:I'm bored! I wanna go home mom. Mature:aaaaoooooohhh! How sweet![kissing]Immature:eeeewww! nasty!gross! Mature:mom,can I PLEASE have a ipod/cellphone/laptop/plasma TV/concert tickets? Immature:mommy,I wanna toy/barbie doll/toy car!Mature:I know about sex,porn,condems,drinking,celebs,cussing,make up[if girl] and everything..........
[sorry, don't have enough room].............and everything. But I know I shouldn't do it until I am of age.I will try my best to be resposible.I promise.Immature:????huh? don't know what your talking about but it sounds really gross! I think I know what sex is though.mabe I'll try it on little brother/sister tomorrow.Everyone's different so don't asume something right away just because of one person.
Did I change your answer?

Answer
i know eleven year olds who enjoy shopping, beg for ipods, love tight clothes, are fairly physically mature, and know about sex and birth control and drugs and all that. but i don't think they're mature.

they still seem a little innocent and like they're trying far too hard to be adults. they watch disney channel and love high school musical and hannah montana and ... yeah. basically, they try too hard to be mature. they may seem more mature because nowadays, they're more encouraged to be like adults sooner. but fundamentally, they're still quite childish. that's not to say that it doesn't vary with the individual eleven year old, but still.

and by the way it's not really mature to want an ipod versus a barbie, to have a boyfirend at eleven, to like shopping. maturity isn't only what you want. the kids who want all that at eleven, well, it's just how they are, and i think it's stupid that they try so hard to grow up. they should enjoy being young. personally, when i was eleven, i knew about sex and porn and safe sex, but i was a wild tomboy-type kid and loved being a kid. i think eleven year olds are preteens, some more mature then others. on the whole, they are younger and more immature then a fifteen year old.

the individual eleven year olds who seem more mature, to me, are intelligent and articulate with a more adult sense of humor. maybe they enjoy shopping and stuff, maybe they don't, but they're not frantically trying to grow up. they're comfortable with who they are, and the person they are is ahead of their peers. it's not because of what they like.

What to do while babysitting an 8 year old girl?

xx Baby Gu

I'm going to be babysitting a young girl who is eight years old in about 11 days. I wanted to know what kind of activities they like to do/ snacks that are fun but not really messy.
Any thoughts ?
oh and im only 14 1/2 :P
oh and im going to be bbysitting from like 7am - 2pm . (:
any snack ideas?

Answer
Well, the easiest thing is to ask her what she'd like to do. Kids always have a list of their favorite things. If you okay it with her parents then you can do things on her list.

I've made Barbie clothes (a big hit with Barbie fans), played hide and seek in the house, played bad mitton if you have the materials. Kids have houses full of toys. Start picking out things.

You can color together pictures together. Kite flying is actually pretty popular. That one I do not understand. PLay cops and robbers where there's a safety zone and a flag (anything can be a flag). The robber has to steal the flag and get to the safety spot. The cop guards the flag and tries to catch the robber before they get to the safety zone.

Twister, sing silly songs...etc..

Make cookies (if you have permission to use the stove). Kids love to mix the batter for cookies.

If her parents are okay with it, you could bring a kid make up kit and take turns giving each other makeovers. I don't know why little girls like this but they do.

Play an interactive video game (although, I tend to avoid video games).

Snacks: Keep it simple with things like Easy Mac N Cheese, popcorn, apple slices and grapes, granola bars.

Always ask about allergies and food restrictions. Parents often have a list of no-no foods.

Stay away from sweets, caffeinated sodas, and sugary fruit drinks. It makes little kids hyper.

Once you get her worn out, you let her pick an age appropriate movie. Hopefully something boring so she'll get tired and fall asleep.

If the movie is out, read to her and do the voices of the characters. Make them very exaggerated, if the kid giggle then you did a great job.

Have fun, wing it.

what is a good toy for a 2 and a half yr old boy that is go diego go related or something close? A link would be helpful as well..thanks

Answer
My son got the talking Diego Rescue Pack last xmas (he was was 2.5) and loved it.

toddler toys are their favorites?

Sexy Ma

What is your toddler "boys" favorite toys and are worth the money?

Answer
My 2 1/2 year old is absolutely in love with Diego. (It has been a life saver in so many areas! We did his room entirely in Diego, and it actually helped him transition from his crib to the toddler bed with no problems. Anytime he doesn't want to go to bed we just get him excited about his Diego bed!)For Christmas we bought him the big rescue center and his grandpa got him a different one. We can now just buy him the extra animals that go with it when we want to get him a new toy. He gets so excited about these! He takes the animals with him every time we go somewhere that he might get bored, including restaurants. They make a little case specifically for them.

As for other toys that have been worth the money, he likes any form of toy car. He has everything from hotwheels to tonka trucks. I love watching him dig through his toy box and picking out all of the cars (no matter what size) so he can play with them together. He also loves animals (part of this stems from his love of Diego) and dinosaurs. We bought him the little packs of 50 animals and 50 dinosaurs for about $2.88 at walmart and these have been amazing! He can sit there and make each animal noise (again learned mostly from Diego) and he loves to make the dinosaurs roar.

The best toys to get for your son are whatever suits his personality. If he has a tv show that he loves, get toys that are related to that. For my son it not only ensures that he plays with them, but it also makes him get more into the educational shows. He's learning spanish, animal noises, and counting way before I thought he'd ever learn it. The only things that I really try not to waste my money on are toys like leapfrog and baby einstien. He's never really gotten that into them, as there is nothing in them that he can relate to. I've known several people who spent alot of money on these things for their kids to never touch them. I know they are supposed to be very educational, but so far my son has learned more from the toys that you would think of as mere novelty.

Good luck!

What to get a 1 year old?

penabri

My nephew will be one this week and I would like to get him something memorable for his first b-day, so when he looks back he can say my aunt got me this when I was 1....any ideas?

Answer
For my son's 1st birthday he got two really great gifts: One was "Mike the Mower" which is a talking lawnmower. He LOVES that toy and still pushes it around every day (he's 19 months old now). It will drive the parents crazy but it is a great gift for that age, because they love to push stuff around. Also, he got a "Busy Ball Popper" which is a toy that uses air to pop these 5 colored balls up and then they land back in a spiral leading them back down to where they popped from, and the fun starts all over again. It plays music, too. Kind of obnxious, but again, he LOVES it. It's a kind of a pain becaus it takes 4 D batteries and also the balls get lost all the time, but if you want your gift to be the hit of the party, I highly reccommend those toys. I think they are both made by Playskool. My friend's 5 year old loves the ball popper, too, so it's the gift that keeps on giving. Good luck. You can always get him clothes...he's too young to think that's boring.

Very active 1 year old - Already has tons of toys?

colored_fi

He has an activity cube, Scout, Little People, several different types of pianos, loads of balls, microphone and other random toys..

I rotate them once a week or when he seems bored.

But he's still bored. He loves to through things so we always have alot of balls for him to play with.

I'd love to find a toy that encourages him to throw something at it or a ball drop toy that makes sound or lights up. Or some other toy thing for an overly active baby.

He's at the mental capacity of a 14-16 month old, other than he does not stack but can sometimes sort.

He's most happy with his books, but lately he's getting bored of those too so I may put them away for a few days.

AND he's going over to his Papa's for 4 days.. Oh boy.
Kim - It's winter.. Can't have water sand toys inside the house.

Liz - There is no dad, and he spends every other weekend with his buddies over at his Grandmas house. Other than that, I have no friends with babies.

Kate - I've tried the basketball hoop but we dont have the right ball for it, only smaller or bigger ones and they like to fly away once they go in the hoop. Which eventually upsets him and gets it sent back downstairs. And he doesn't like to stack so anything stacking just gets broke down and tossed.

Amber - Obviously I'm playing with him. I don't send him to his room and expect him to amuse himself.

Fairy - What a waste of space for a comment. Spongebob, in any case, ought to be banned.

Answer
Do you have a little basketball hoop for him? We got my oldest one when he was one. He loved it. And it was great for me because I could sit in his room and throw balls with him and he had so much energy he'd go get the balls for me and him. He could play for hours. My boys also loved cars at that age. And if you get those old school looking wooden blocks then you guys can build towers together or roads for the cars, etc. I noticed my kids would get a lot less bored with their toys if I was playing with them too. And as an adult you can figure out so many different ways to play with toys that when you're done playing your toddler knows several new things to do too.

I think classic toys are always the best because they seem to not get boring as fast as the lights and sounds toys.

Good toys for a 3 year old for christmas?

purple but

OK here it goes. My son is 3 and a half years old and my MIL has asked me to write a list for christmas of what kinda toys he wants. Problem is that he never expresses wishes in that direction. We don't have cable or tv channels (we watch videos) so he doesn't have a whole lot of wishes. He has ride on toys and trucks. Is not ready for board games yet but loves playing PC games for toddlers. He has a lot of toys that are good for children his age so I am sitting here and don't really know what to write on that list. What do you thing are some good educational and pedagogical toys that you can or might recommend for a 3 year old boy?
He likes Schoolbuses and Helicopters. He knows his ABC and can count to 10 in 2 languages and he speaks mostly in english but he understands german quite well. We do play-doh and coloring we read books, listen to stories on CD and tape, pretent play with him. I like the idea with the food and the doctor kit. He already has tools and a trainset. I do care a lot about the toys my son plays with and its educational/pedogogical value.

Answer
When you're three, practically any experience that doesn't involve a screen can be educational. Things that let him explore adult roles are always good: a doctor's set (fisher price has a good one) or some toy tools (little tykes makes a super cute set of these; they light up and make noise but aren't too annoying). What kind of things interest him? What does he like to point out to you when you're outdoors or around town that might interest him in scaled down three-year-old size?

Little boys may need more encouragement to work on their dexterity, so as an answer above said, some play-dough or anything that involves fine motor skills is a good idea.

Destructive 3 year old?

Jessica

My son is 3 years old, very well behaved. Only downfall with him is that he is very distructive, he like to figure things out on his own. He likes to take anything he can find apart just to figure out how to put it back together, he is so intrigued my electricity we have had to duck tape his outlets in his room because he likes seeing things turn on and off. He has takin out kitchen cupboards apart, he then gets his fisher price tools so "he can fick it". He's takin our vent apart, breaks toys, takes light bulbs out of lights just to screw them back in, taking his bike apart, uses forks to open locked doors (which is one of things me and his father do to keep him locked out of dangerous things). Like I said he's is an amazing well behaved little boy, just very intrigued to find out how things works. We try and keep our eyes on him 24/7 but as other parents will know that sometimes doesn't always happen.. I'm not looking for rude comments just suggestions please! Thank you so much!

Answer
It sounds like he is very smart.
I wonder if he would respond to redirection?

What if you made a workbench for him? It could be a thrift store wooden coffee table or some other piece of "repurposed" furniture that is at his height.

Get him a set of real, child-sized tools such as this:
http://www.amazon.com/GRIP-96009-Grip-Childrens-Tool/dp/B001AIU2UO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1367092127&sr=8-1&keywords=child+tool+set
Add a pair of child-sized safety glasses and introduce the tools one or two at a time as you feel like he is ready for them.

Recruit friends and neighbors to donate their old, broken stuff for him to take apart: old fashioned alarm clocks and telephones, fans, VCRS, broken RC cars, etc. Give him one item at a time, cutting the power cords off so that he can't plug them in while he is working.

Any time he wants, he can go to his work bench to work on his project. When he finishes disassembling something, he can collect the pieces he wants to keep into a "spare parts" box and begin his next project. Eventually, he'll be able to assemble his spare parts into new (make believe) inventions.

By giving him this special area, you have a place to redirect him when he gets into your stuff. You also have something (his tools) that can be taken away as a logical consequence if he disassembles things that he shouldn't. The family rule would be that he can work at is workstation any time. If he wants to take something there to work on (such as something he feels is broken), he must ask permission. He must also ask permission to take his tools away from his work station for any reason, such as if there is something he wants to work on in the yard.

Here are some additional toys from Fat Brain Toys - a great educational toy site - to keep in mind for holidays and birthdays that would fuel his need to "figure things out":

Nuts and bolts construction kit:
http://www.fatbraintoys.com/toy_companies/magic_forest/sevi_construction_set_104_pc.cfm

Contraption lab (would probably need help at first):

Snap Circuits Jr. (would probably need adult help with this one!:

Your son sounds gifted; your challenge is to channel that curiosity into appropriate directions!
Good luck!

Is Justin Bieber pregnant?

MichaelM

I heard that Justin Bieber was pregnant and his baby wasn't with Selena Gomez... is this true? Also did he really leave Selena Gomez?

Answer
Justin Bieber is not pregnant. Males can't get other males pregnant that's highly impossible. If your not a human being or your under the age of 4 years old I understand why you ask this but seriously this just makes you look really stupid for asking this. This girl named Mariah Yeater is claiming that Justin Bieber is the father for her 3 month old son but I think that its a rumor. This girl (Mariah Yeater) knows that if she says this it will go around eventually Justin Bieber's fans will find out and when the fans start talking about it everyone does and that girl knows that and that's what she wants she's looking for attention. She told the media that Justin Bieber's bodyguard Kenny Hamilton escorted her backstage to meet Justin Bieber. The media contacted Kenny Hamilton to see if it was true and Kenny Hamilton says that never happened and Kenny Hamilton was with Justin Bieber backstage at all times and the only people he was with was with Justin Bieber's bodyguard Kenny Hamilton, Justin Bieber's best friend Ryan Butler, Justin Bieber's hair dresser Vanessa and Justin Bieber's mother Pattie Mallette. Media says that to Mariah Yeater and she said "no comment". A few days ago on Twitter she tweeted "I'm famous and put a weird smiley' a few minutes later she says 'My names trending on Twitter :)' she's making it obvious that she's lying. She then met him when there's hundreds of other fans and Justin chose her and had "sex" with her backstage when there are Beliebers 10000 times prettier than her. There are the prettiest Beliebers and Justin Bieber never had sex with them. To go backstage you have to personally know that celebrity, who they work with or someone that they know and Mariah Yeater doesn't personally know Justin Bieber or anyone in Justin Bieber's crew. Justin Bieber never let's a fan backstage and "has sex" with them when there's hundreds of people backstage. Justin Bieber also said on 'The Today Show' November 4, 2011 "I never met the women". There isn't time for him to have sex at his concert because he has meet and greets before his concert he has to do, sound check, concert then get in the car and leave. If he did get someone pregnant the fans would be going crazy about it right now crying when all of them are laughing and joking around about it. Justin Bieber's fans find out things before it hits the most popular celebrity gossip television show in America called 'E! News' that says true things and says what goes on about celebrities. Justin Bieber did not have sex with someone because he has said in 2010 that "I don't wanna have sex until marriage" now in 2011 he said "I don't wanna have sex with someone unless I really love that person". Justin is a celebrity and he knows that he's going to have plenty more girlfriends in the future and don't wanna risk it and mess up his career. Yes, he is a hormonal teenager but he wouldn't screw every girl he sees. Justin Bieber isn't one of those guys that love sex and judges girls by her body or looks. Justin's parents are also very strict and protective over Justin so they wouldn't let him get someone pregnant especially at his young age. That girl that says "this is Justin Bieber's kid" has no evidence at all and I'm sure she wouldn't she take this more seriously, she just wants Justin Biebers money and the attention. Justin is very attractive and has a wonderful personality and I do see him getting married and having children just not at 17 years old. Look at Jesse McCartney, Aaron Carter, The Jonas Brothers, Zac Efron and Justin Timberlake they were all teen sensations but their still not married nor do they have kids and they are in their 20's and 30's. I don't exactly know what is going on or what will happen I am just saying what I know no one really knows what is really true until the day Justin Bieber takes that DNA test. No Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez did not break up.

where to buy cheap rat toys?

Jessica

we r going shoping for toys n treats tmoorow

Answer
you don't necessarily need to buy them that many toys. there are so many things that are cheap or even free that they really enjoy. my girls have a washing up bowl that I fill up with toilet roll tubes and sheets of kitchen roll, offcuts of fleece, small chew toys etc, that they love rummaging through.

you can also get cheap fleece gloves, put treats in the fingers, tie it closed and hang it. this way they have to tear every finger open to get to the treats, so it keeps them entertained for longer than a sock would

the Dapper Rat website has LOTS of excellent cheap or free ideas for rat entertainment.
http://www.dapper.com.au/toys.htm

you can often pick up suitable childrens toys that rats would enjoy at charity shops. and pound shops often have lots of great things for them

you can also get cardboard wine bottle carriers in most supermarkets, with six compartments, which are free, and even though I rarely buy wine, when I ask if I can have one, no one has ever refused to let me have one. rats enjoy these because it's like a cardboard box with six windows to peep out of or climb in and out.

boxes, toilet roll tubes, scrunched up paper, even some old or ruined clothes are good fun for rats.
a cut off leg from a pair of jeans can be hung up to make a great rattie tunnel, for example.

yes, there's lots of great things you can buy for rats (especially in the bird toy part of a pet shop) but there's also a lot you can make, or just give to the rats instead of throwing out.

Cheap clit stimulators?

I have no sex toys at all! I'm looking for some very cheap ones online so i can afford several. I'm looking for something specific though. I want clit toys that vibrate and are intense enough to bring me to an orgasm. please help!

Answer
Bullets are a girls best friend!!
They are direct, to the point, strong, and get the job done quickly! You can buy them for around $20 or less.
The other thing you'll like are the "pocket rockets". They are usually hard plastic and do not have wires, some are waterproof too, so if the only "alone time" you get is in the shower, you can play there!

Check out www.PartiesByAnne.com - Click on Toy Boutique, look for Super Mini Bullet ($14) and Bottle Rocket ($17) for starters! You might also like the Pleaser Teaser or the Wild Trio!

If you spend more than $35, enter code PGBC to get a $10 off discount!!

What do your kids want for Christmas?

Or what do you plan on getting them?

What are they going to be for Halloween?

BQ: Would you ever go to Disney World on Halloween, Christmas, or any other holiday? Why or why not?

Answer
EVERYTHING!!!!! Both of them want everything they see in every ad on TV and every catalogue for every toy store we can get to! It's driving me crazy!!! I'm scouring catalogues right now to see what's best for them. At least my 4yr old son can tell me what he wants (cars and Ben 10 related mostly), but my 2yr old daughter is all guess work.

As for Halloween, my son wants to be a vampire and my daughter will have a cute little witches outfit. We won't go trick or treating though, it's not really done where I live sadly... :( But we will have a trick or treat party at home for them!

No. Absolutely not. Too many people, lack of tradition, especially at Christmas. Halloween, OK, maybe, and I'd be open to a holiday themed trip right before or right after the actual holiday, but not on the actual day.

how can i buy my kids toys with bad credit?

Q. Isn't there a catalog I can buy them toys from for people with not so good credit. Besides Fingerhut?

Answer
Toys R us and Walmart offers layaway. You dont need credit to do it.

funny moments with kids?

Celinea

Any funny moments with your kids or someone else's kids?

Well my neighbours came over, their son is 9 but mentally delayed. He thought it would be funny to ring '000' on my phone and he told them that he had killed someone and the body was in our house. He didn't tell us and we had the police rock up at our house with weapons and etc we were stunned and shocked. They searched our house and the child explained that he didn't mean to ring and it was just a game. After clearing that we didn't have a dead body in our house the police gave a talk to the kid and laughed it off. Haha that was hilarious but scary.

Also I am volunteering on In a child care centre and the kids come up with silly things like ' I used to have a dog. But now it's in jail' or etc lol

Answer
My two boys playing toy guns this morning.

BANG! BANG! I got you you're dead.....No you didn't get me you missed.....No I did not miss, I got you.....No you didn't get me, I ducked.....No I got you before you ducked. MOMMY, JOEY ISN'T PLAYING RIGHT. I KILLED HIM AND NOW HE WON'T DIE.

Why are there no good kid movies anymore?

Dawkins

I mean, is it just me or all the kid movies either non existent or terrible now? Like I mean, the 90s, we had it good for kid movies.
Lion King -ultimate classic
Toy Story
Beauty in the Beast
Mickey Mouse
Pinocchio
Bambi
Snow White
Aladdin

Am I just biased or are there nothing good out there for kids anymore? Man, all of these movies were classics for kids.
Toy Story 3 doesn't count because its part of the first Toy Story. And Finding Nemo is definitley a good movie but that was just one in 2005. i mean... look there deff seems to be a lack of good kid movies these days.
Mulan....Tarzan. I mean do I not have a point?
Like I think Finding Nemo was a great movie but it was just kind of like one in a while you know? Like in the 90s i think there were great kid movies everywhere? At the end of the day, you think I'm wrong, kinda right or totally right?

Answer
I don't know what you're talking about. Obviously, they're not making "classic" movies right now, because the movies they currently make aren't old enough to be "classic."
Pixar cranks out amazing movies like nobody's business. WALL-E and Up were both spectacular, as were Toy Story 3, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Finding Nemo, and Brave. Just because they're not hand-drawn 2D animation doesn't mean they're not wonderful films.
Disney has had some pretty great movies recently, too. Tangled was really excellent, and The Princess and the Frog was a nice nod to the "old way" of doing things. I don't know if you've seen Wreck-It Ralph yet, but that was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time, for kids or for adults. Also, Treasure Planet wasn't all that long ago, but it's one of my favorite Disney movies. And don't forget Lilo and Stitch!
What about Megamind? It didn't have quite the same creativity as, say, The Lion King, but it was hilarious. Or Despicable Me? So creative and adorable! Or ParaNorman, which had (I think) the first-ever openly gay lead character in cartoon history.
Every movie I just listed came out in the last ten years. The years for the movies you listed are as follows:
The Lion King - 1994
Toy Story - 1995
Beauty and the Beast - 1991
Mickey Mouse - not a movie, but was created in 1928
Pinocchio - 1940
Bambi - 1942
Snow White - 1937
Aladdin - 1992
Mulan - 1998
Tarzan - 1999
You can't count movies made over 50 years ago if you're comparing the 1990's to now. You just can't. Sure, some of them came out in the 1990's. It was a great decade. But so were the 2000's. And so is right now. I'm not even counting all the great live-action movies for kids that have been made lately (who doesn't love Pirates of the Carabbean?)
I just love kid's movies. They always turn out so happily, and in a world full of stuff that tends to end badly, it's nice to forget about all that for a while. I do love the classic Disney movies (Aladdin is my favorite), but I'm not going to get stuck in the past. Don't discount all the movies that have been made recently just because they're different. They're still every bit as heartwarming and imaginative as the "classics" you remember.

Did you have a Barbie, or a GI Joe when you were a kid?

Liz

I had a barbie, but none of them survived the torture of hair pulling, and experiments performed by my brother.

Answer
I had "several" G.I. Joes and other figures when I was a kid. They all perished in a "suspicious" fire though. I think I saw my next door neighbor's Barbie and Ken dolls fleeing the scene. It was dark and I couldn't make a positive I.D.

How many GI Joes did you own as a kid?

Angus Beef

Did they ever get "lucky" with Barbie? What did Ken have to say about it?

Answer
I had one, Snake-Eyes, and the only reason I got it was because someone put it in a backpack my granpa bought me from FRED'S. I was a poor kid, never really had much. I loved getting that.

power rangers HELP?

IRINAS17

HELP can sombody tell me what is speed light ranger murfor? or how ever you say it. my 5 year old told santa he wants one and i cant find what it is. HELP
he told me today is that you put it on your wrist and it has 4 buttons

Answer
There was a Power Ranger series that was called Light Speed Resue. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Rangers:_Lightspeed_Rescue which they made action figures from. The only ones I could find were the ones that come in a set of 4 power rangers that have a different Power Ranger from the many different series they had. I couldn't find anything by the name you put in your question, but like most little kids they probably got the name a little confused. lol. I found pictures of the sets at Toys R Us. If your 5 year old is a Power Ranger fan and likes to play with Action Figures I'm sure he would love these sets. My 4 yr old has them all and is a huge Power Ranger fan. Hope this helps.

What happened to the original Power Rangers?

jpeters173

I remember back in the day, i'd watch the original power rangers and i actually liked it. i even liked the movie that came out. but now the series is horrible. there are so many different versions that are just crap and so retarded i wouldn't even let my kids watch it if they were old enough. i'm just wondering why they strayed so far from the path that was actually entertaining.
hanghang, are you serious?

Answer
The original Power Rangers grew despondent after the show ended and spiraled into desperation and despair. The Blue Ranger developed a heroine problem and ended up in rehab from which point he became a born-again Christian. He now spends his days organizing against gay rights. The Red Ranger robbed and killed a convenience store owner. He is now serving a fifteen year prison sentence for aggravated manslaughter. The Pink Ranger got drunk and crashed her Ferrari into a school bus. She's now lecturing the very same children she injured about alcohol abuse. The Green Ranger recorded a hip-hop album which nobody bought. He now drives a snack truck. The Yellow Ranger was kidnapped and taken to a cabin in the woods where she died in a snuff film. The body never was found.

toys for toddler for birthday?

Sexy Ma

what toys can i get my 23 month old son who is turning 2 years old next week?? I only shop at toys r us and target so keep that in mind. His developmental age is more like 18 months old

Answer
Boys like to be active and use their hands a lot. I would look into some blocks or a shape sorter with music. Fisher Price makes a cute cookie pot shape sorter that has music. My daughter loved that toy! We also love all of the LeapFrog toys. They make a Fridge Farm Magnetic Animal Set that has been a huge hit with my daughter, niece, and nephew. It only costs about $15, plays music and sings cute songs. Hope this helps some. Happy Birthday to your little one!

If a kid does not appreciate a toy, is there any other way to teach her?

Mick

to appreciate it other than taking the toy away from her?

Answer
I would make the kid take the toy to goodwill, or salvation army where a less privileged child could appreciate the toy! Explain it all to your child, and make them hand it over at the donation site. It might make them appreciate their toys more, and take care of them better.

Purchasing dog toys?

Mary B

Does anyone know where I can get dog toys for a reasonable price online?? I'm willing to buy in bulk. They are just so expensive considering my dog tears through them!
Thanks all! I have kong toys and rope toys and you are right, they last forever. Unfortunately, the dogs get sick of them and need new things. I give them squeaky toys sometimes, but they just rip the squeakers right out and are done with it. I hadn't thought of the dollar store - thanks!
PS: What is Sally Ann's? We dont' have that in NJ.

Answer
cheapest thing to do is go to goodwill like discount stores and pick up kids toys or their cheaper dog toys. Another thing is watch every 6 weeks Target changes their dollar spot items and puts in new things, usually every 12 weeks they put a mess of dog toys and things in there for a buck each. Speaking of a buck each Dollar stores have dog toys as well for a buck a bag.

Newborn baby girl toys?

Q. My wife just had her baby! It's a girl, Kellie Marie. You all helped me in my previous question, and now I know everything I need to know prepared of parenting. Thanks yall! I am so happy, just need to know, where is somewhere that I can get inexpencive but not cheap newborn baby toys? Not like cheap looking, but something not too expencive <we'll take up to $100> so any ideas? And it needs to be a girl toy, or a unisex one! I don't want any boy ones, so mothers or fathers of newborn girls, what do you have as toys? Where can I get them? The nearest Babies 'R' Us is about 40 miles out to town, we live in a small village with almost no stores, but we'll be willing to go there to get the toys as long as we know what to get. Please answer quick!

Answer
She won't be interested in real toys until about age 3 months to 4 months, once she figures out she has hands and can use the hands.

Things you want now though are some kind of crib light up musical device. FisherPrice makes really cool crib aquariums and my guy loved them from about 3 to 4 weeks old on.

A swing - I love my Graco Lovin Hugs. Rated from 5lbs to 30lbs with a 5 point harness, adjustable seat, music and white noise plus a heart beat sound! Just don't use the mobile and know that the tray takes a while before it becomes easy to snap open and close.

Anything with the heartbeat sound will be calming to baby for the first few weeks. They have bears for sleeping with that have the sound too.

Mobiles, she'll start to notice them, again around the 4 week mark however my son quickly lost interest in them when he started reaching for things because it was out of his reach.

Activity Mat/Activity Gym - place baby on her back and toys hang down she can bat/kick at, music and lights and she'll be fascinated starting at around 6 weeks old. Kicking is the first movements she'll master so make sure there are things that make noise when she kicks them to make it fun. Buy lots of links so that as she starts exploring the world you can hang things lower for her to grab at and have things ready to change up when she gets bored.

Baby Sling - I wish I had gotten one when my guy was young enough. It allows baby to feel close and secure but keeps your hands free so you can eat/go to the bathroom and all the other little things you took for granted!

Toddler Education...?

Tiffany

I am sorta in the dark when it comes to what exactly I need to be doing to help better my soon to be 4 year olds learning skills... such as numbers, letters, ect.
What kind of activities should I do?
What should I be focusing on?
What materials.... like workbooks, toys, ect. will help?
What games?
Just some advice...
Give me specifics! What did/ are you using w/ your toddler!
Thanks in advance...

Answer
Baby Einstein flash cards are great...or other type of flash cards- as long as your child enjoys them
Do whatever interests your child!
Read to them alot!
Leap frog or Vtech products are great.
Learning through play is the best for young children!
I would stear clear of any workbooks
Don't worry, your child will learn everything in kindergarten, so there's no reason to teach everything now- he'll be bored in school.

One activity my son loves is we write with chalk outside(letters, numbers, shapes) and then I ask him where a particular letter or number or shape is and he'll go stand on it. He just turned 3!!! He really loved flash cards, that's how he learned all his letters, numbers, shapes, and colors. Praise every little thing he learns, and he'll want to hear more and more from you. Good luck!!!

What are the best toys for baby that are not too expensive to buy?

Jill Tregr

Looking for the best toys for baby that are affordable. We are buying tons of toys and we are trying to cut down on expenses so what toys for baby would you recommend we get?

Answer
Babies at this age need basic toys, and not all the expensive electronic gadgets.

I would look for something that encourages the baby to crawl/cruise - often toys where you push a button down, and then the toy moves further ahead.

musical toys are always a hit. I would look for something that encourages cause and effect, and better hand/eye coordination - xylophones, drums (which you can make out of an empty plastic container and a small wooden spoon), tambourines, bells, maracas and rainmakers. There are lots of baby-proof toys out there, and the baby sets can be fairly inexpensive because they are plastic and small. Also nothing wrong with pots, pans, plastic containers and wooden spoons, and spatulas.

Books - this is so important for speech development, learning how to read, setting the precedent for enjoying reading, and getting some quality time with a parent or caregiver. There are all different types of books for babies and preschoolers, just be prepared for some chewing. I still buy board books for my toddler and preschooler, because they are cheaper than the paper ones. And, some of the board books have the entire story and illustrations for 1/2 the price. Get a family library membership - libraries also offer story time even for babies.

Stacking toys and shape sorters - Wal-mart and TRU each make their own cheaper version than Fisher Price, but the FP is a thicker plastic. Be prepared that your baby will not be able to sort shapes for quite awhile. Stacking toys just need to be varying degrees of sizes, shapes and colors (to help differentiate the shape, and keep their interest). Great for hand/eye coordination and motor skills.

Blocks - get something that is easier to grasp in their small hand - larger, or squeezable, or even small. Just not too small that they are a choking hazard. TRU and Wal-mart each have their own knockoffs, which will save you a bunch of money.

Balls - I would get a bunch of softer balls. I would buy them in different sizes. If you have trouble finding them, my toddlers seem to be into the dogâs balls (we wonât go there). I donât mind because they are indestructible (no chewing off small pieces) and most are squeezable.

And a couple of plastic containers in which to put stuff in. The stuff can be the shapes from the shape sorter, blocks, balls or other small toys. Older babies like to put stuff into a container, dump this into another container or out on the floor.

Babies are fascinated with themselves (actually I think they just see "other" babies). One of our babies went to daycare. They have a mirror, mounted behind Plexiglas) that was about 3 feet tall and 6 feet long. All the babies and toddlers were fascinated with it. A small unbreakable mirror would do. We hooked up a baby car mirror (unbreakable), that was too small for the car, up to the side of the coffee table (in this house we attached it to the railing that runs along the living room).

And the very best toy is YOU! Babies want to interact with their parents/caregivers. They want to play interactive games like Peek-a-boo, or pat-a-cake or sing nursery rhymes or childrenâs songs. This is the best place to find the tunes and lyrics for nursery rhymes http://kids.niehs.nih.gov/musicchild.htm Because I was never great at remembering the tune or the lyrics, or both.

How much money should a teen take to new york for 2 weeks?

thenextbig

I'll be traveling to new york a week early without my parents. I was wondering how much money I should take with me for the first week. The second week my parents will join me. It will just be my uncle and I but i still wanted to know what would be a good amount because my mom asked me how much did I plan on taking. I also was wondering is it a good idea to use a reloadable debit/credit card from like walgreens or cvs in the city. I like to shop and stuff too but I am really just trying to get a good amount for the first week since my parents will join me the second week. Oh and im 14 so how much would a teen around that age spend in nyc.

Answer
New YOrk City can be a expensive place to visit. If you can walk, or take the subway. The taxi cab drivers were on the national news in a story for ripping off tourist. THey made them pay I think 5 bucks to much for the fare. The subway I heard went up to 2.50 one way. They sell one day passes, monthly passes, and I am not sure what other ones they sell. I think these are good if you are going to take it alot in one day. Food in the 40s, and 50s, is high. It is a big tourist trap. don't fall for it. Last time I was in NYC I couldn't find one place that would sell me a meatball sub for under 7 to 9 bucks. Some places sell pizza for a buck a slice, but most in manhattan area where the tourist are seem to be 3 to 4 bucks a slice, or 20 something for a large. I may be wrong, but I heard the sales tax in NYC is 8 or 8 something on the dollar. Those rechargable pre paid visa cards be careful of. I was looking at one today at a store, and it said 4.95 charge applied when u activate it at the register. I think out of a 50 or a 100 dollar one u lose that much which sucks. You can find cheaper places to eat, but you have to walk around for a bit. I don't know what you want to do there, to tell you how much to bring, but a free cool thing to do is sony wonder museum. Nintendo world is fun to go into, if you are into video games. It is two floors. They sell stuff to. I saw people playing nintendo ds games and stuff last time I was there. They have a very small museum. It has a few older things from the 80s in this showcase. How much you want to bring is up to you. You can save a great deal if you avoid the taxis though. Don't carry to much with you at once. maybe leave some of it in your hotel room. Sometimes people get pick pocketed in nyc. Don't have your wallet in your back pocket at all. If you want to see a huge toys r us, the one in times square has a ferris wheel inside it, but its around 5 bucks to ride it. It is a very big toys r us. If your into shopping macys is around 9 floors on 34th street. Everything in NYC seems higher than other places. If it is something u never saw in another shopping store in your state I guess get it, other wise wait till your back in your hometown to save on that sales tax. Some food in NYC is more expensive than others. SOme is just over priced. some of the museums are around 20 bucks if you like to do that. Watch out for homeless people. You might get asked for money alot. I got hassled a few times before by bums. I hope you have a great time in NYC. If you want to know more about things like the food inspection report showing which new york places are cleaner than others email me. if you want the subway website email me and I will give you that information. Before u go to CHina town you might be dissapointed. I wasn't happy with it. Little Italy i didn't care for either. I saw a few places to eat in little italy. china town took it over pretty much. One place I got a pizza from in little italy was way to hard to eat the crust. It hurt my teeth. China town had alot of chinese people trying to sell me pirated dvds of movies out in the theatre I saw some chinese restraunts, a fancier mcdonalds, chinese markets showing the chicken upside down in the window, car stereo places. I just don't think it's worth going to. if you want to go check it out though. oh I forgot to warn you about the street vendors. Don't buy any purses or watches for a friend or relative thinking its a good deal. its 100 percent counter fit. south street seaport is a neat place to go to if you want to walk the brooklyn bridge. it's not that far from it. you can see boats docked in the water. I think it cost a fee to get on them and tour it though. there is a zoo in flushing ny aka queens by the 7 train, a zoo in central park, a zoo in brooklyn, by the q train to prospect park. It is a small zoo though. The biggest zoo is in the bronx. I think i took the number 2 train for about an hour to east tremont ave and walked the few blocks to the zoo. Have a great time in NYC.

Why does my dad always get negative when i want to buy something with my own money?

Cody

Whenever i want to buy something, my dad goes negative and finds anything he can to say no. Why?

Answer
That is so funny, (my oldest and I just had this conversation about 3 minutes ago) my sons have started doing extra things around the house to earn money. My oldest wants to be a teacher so he works with my 4 year old twins and earns one dollar an hour. He saves his money and we have made him a deal that at the end of the summer we will match whatever he has earned. We do this to try to teach him the importance of saving money, so that later in life he won't run up credit cards because he feels the need to buy everything he wants, even if he doesn't need it. It is a hard lesson for kids and teens to learn. Our society makes it seem like we are not a worthy person unless we have all the coolest most expensive new things and I think your dad is trying to teach you that those things are not important and saving money, although hard, is so rewarding in the end. My second oldest son also works around the house, he doesn't do nearly as much work as the older one and the second he gets a couple dollars he wants to go and spend it, even if it is just on a cheap toy that he will lose or break in a day. We are very afraid for him later on in life. I would try really hard to see your dad's point of view and know that he is doing what he thinks is right and at least you have a dad that cares. A lot of people can't say that.

Toddler Seperation Anxiety?

J M

I have an almost 4 year old I just placed into a Spring Camp. He did good the first day but every day after that he has been crying and having tantrums. He is only there a half day. I am a SAHM but I am very active with my SAHMs group. He has about 10 friends that he plays with 3-4 times a week plus we stay busy on the weekends.
He is fine when he wakes up in the morning, on the way there, and going up to the door. As soon as he sees the other kids, he is asking me to go home. Of course I know he needs to grow out of it, but does anyone have any advice where I can sort of try to calm him down. There are days where I can hear him screaming all the way to the car. I just feel so bad for him. Its only for a couple more days. I did this to try to prep-him for preschool which he starts in a couple of months.

Experienced advice is greatly appreciated

Answer
I'm a preschool teacher. What I've found works best is when the parents have a set drop off routine. You come in, tell them to have a good day and give hugs and kiss and than leave. The quicker you leave the better for you both. Your child will cry for the first few days (maybe longer), but eventually he'll be used to the routine and before you know it he'll be waving for you to leave. Trust me, this has worked for every child I have seen that used to have the same problems going on. It's when the parents stick around longer to comfort their child that it gets worse. When you stay your child knows he can get you to stay longer by crying and causing a scene so he will do it just to talk you into staying or bringing him back home. Once you follow a routine and leave quickly he will get used to it - trust me. It may be hard to do but it does work best and it will help your son adjust.

Also just some other tips to go along with this - always remind him that you will be there soon to pick him up. Allow him to bring a stuffed animal or cool toy that he can show off to his new friends... you can also tell him that if he's good and goes to camp like a big boy he will get a special treat when you pick him up.

an undisciplined toddler at my daughters preschool.?

lafresa cr

there is a 2 1/2 yr old boy at my daughters school. He is totaly out of control. He throws fits that disrupt the class. It is a mommy and me setting. So the mother just says its ok its ok. and does nothing. Its really anoying cause the bratt goes nuts if they take a toy away from him. What should I do. Should I say something to the mother or the teacher. If so what do you suggest I say. Thank you I really appreciate the imput. Other mothers have commented on the issue as well.

Answer
I would go to the teacher as a group and ask her if she would speak to the mother.
Maybe the mother doesn't know what to do with the child when he acts up. The teacher could give her suggestions.
If the teacher doesn't want to approch the mother she could have a couple of lessons on disaplain and then everyone can add what works for them to the discussion

toddler toys are their favorites?

Good luck!

Transitioning to toddler bed?

Jenn

My son is almost 21 months old and we are going to try him in his big boy toddler bed this weekend. My fear is that since he will have acces to toys and a room that he will not want to sleep, but play all night instead, lol. I want to try the transition now only because we are expecting as baby in 3 months and I don't want to hit him with a new baby sister, a new bed, and then potty training around 2 as well.

So, any advise on ways to ease a toddler into their toddler bed? How did it go for your child?

Thanks

Answer
Hi there, great idea to time this now. Most toddlers transition quite easily to their new bed. If he's sensitive to it, prepare the move by telling him he is a big boy now and gets to sleep in a big boy's bed, ... Keep all the rest (such as cuddly toys, mobiles, anything that was in his direct environment when in his cot) the same as much as possible, also stick to the routine and schedule you had before.

This is also the perfect moment to start working on clear rules about night time: no playing, no walking around the room after bedtime, ... and you decide whether he is to call you when he needs you at night or if you want him to walk over to your room. But the best is not to overstress these things now, I would not even mention them to him now, except for casually 'time to go to sleep and stay in your own bed now' that kind of thing.

If you'll emphasize "do not come out of bed" you might actually give him ideas he may not have tried otherwise ...

You know your boy best but the main thing now is to set clear simple rules, stick to them consistently without making a fuss about them.

Good luck with this big step for your son, and with baby sister on the way!

What Is Child Development?

And,How Much Do You Get Pay?

Answer
Child development refers to the biological and psychological changes that occur in human beings between birth and the end of youth, as the individual progresses from dependency to increasing independence. Because these developmental changes may be strongly influenced by genetic factors and events during parental life, genetics and parental development are usually included as part of the study of child development. Related terms include developmental Psychology referring to development throughout the lifespan and Pediatrics, the branch of medicine relating to the care of children. Developmental change may occur as a result of genetically-controlled processes known as maturation, or as a result of environmental factors and learning, but most commonly involves an interaction between the two.
Age-related development terms are: new born (ages 0â1 month); infant (ages 1 month â 1 year) : toddler (ages 1â3 years); Pre â schooler (ages 4â6 years); school aged children (ages 6â13 years); adolescent (ages 13â18). However, organizations like Zero to Three and the World Association for Infant Mental Health use the term infant as a broad category, including children from birth to age 3, a logical decision considering that the Latin derivation of the word infant refers to those who have no speech, The optimal development of children is considered vital to society and so it is important to understand the social, cognitive, emotional, and educational development of children. Increased research and interest in this field has resulted in new theories and strategies, with specific regard to practice that promotes development within the school system. In addition there are also some theories that seek to describe a sequence of states that comprise child development.

Answer
Child development refers to the biological, psychological and emotional changes that occur in human beings between birth and the end of adolescence, as the individual progresses from dependency to increasing autonomy.

Early childhood education is crucial to child development and should be entered into cautiously with someone you trust will help benefit your child.

Developmental psychology examines issues such as the extent of development through gradual accumulation of knowledge versus stage-like development--and the extent to which children are born with innate mental structures, versus learning through experience.

During the infant and toddler years, children develop basic grasping and manipulation skills, which are refined during the preschool years.

Disneyworld with Grandma?

Kathleen

I am taking my Grandson to Disneyworld in Aug. He is 6 and I only have 3 days to do everything. I want him to have a wonderful time because his home life is pretty bad. Where should I start? What are the favorite things for 6 yr. olds? We are staying at Disneyworld and there is a bus to the park. I can get around well. Moms & Dads please reply....

Best regards, Grandma

Answer
We took my daughters (5 and 1 at the time) to Disneyworld a couple of years ago. I would definitely recommend the kids park in Magic Kingdom, they loved it and we spent most of our time there.
I would avoid Epcot, it's not really for younger children. They do have a neat center that the kids did enjoy with video games and stuff, but it wasn't worth spending a whole day.
Animal Kingdom is fun. They have a lot of things for kids to do, including a dinosaur kiddie park with kiddie rides.
MGM rides are better for adults, but they have a ton of meet and greets for the kids to meet the characters. They also have playhouse Disney live with Bear In the Big Blue House, and Winnie the Pooh. I think that was a favorite for us.

So definitely don't miss Magic Kingdom. And if he likes Playhouse Disney, go to MGM.

is toontown in disneyworld like the one in the game toontown?

Qwerty

Like are there cogs and you throw gags and stuff.

Answer
The buildings are animated like....However, it's nothing like the game. It's just Mickey and Minnie's houses that you walk through for meet and greats.

Now, the Toon Town section is completely sealed off and is being taken out. This is because their adding in the Beast's Castle, Snow White's Cottage w/ a new ride, and a meet and great spot for Ariel w/a new ride also. They are also adding another Dumbo ride and changing out it's line and updating Goofy's BarnStormer.
