Hi everyone i am just wanting to ask come questions since this is going to be my first actual baby i lost my first at about 14 weeks. On monday i will be 23 weeks.
What all did you buy around 23 weeks?
I found out the sex of my baby when i was 16 weeks and i also got another one at 21 weeks because the doctor couldn't see the spine that great so i know deff. its a girl.
Do you think i have to much already? I have my crib, changing table, all the beding, one box of diapers, whipes, clothes, carseat, and stoller, swing, bouncy, and boppie. Im not getting anymore till after the baby shower.
So what all did you have at 23 weeks for your little one
Answer
I waited until my baby shower to buy anything so I bought whatever I didn't get but needed. Someone said to get bunch of diapers, I wouldn't just because babies grow at different rates, and you will have to buy different sizes at different rates and amounts. If you want to start buying diapers, I would suggest you get 1 box of newborn size diapers, 1 box of size one diapers, 1 box size 2 diapers, 2-3 size 3 boxes. Here is a list of some newborn essentials, its personally what we used with our son, of course over time needs change, and different parents have different preferences, but this is a basic outline.
List of Newborn essentials
Car seat and stroller
Diapers (we use Pampers Baby Dry and they work very good, no leakage, but if you want a cheaper alternative, Parentâs Choice Walmart brand diapers are pretty good as well) 1 box Newborn size, 2 boxes size 1, two boxes size 2, and 3 boxes size 3 (you donât want to overstock on diapers, because you never know how big the baby will be and how fast it will grow. Donât open boxes that you are not using, in case the baby grows out of a size, you can exchange unopened box for different size or brand , Walmart will let you do that for sure)
Wipes- I like the store brand ones like Babies R Us, Target, or Walmart
Onsies (otherwise known as bodysuits)- Newborn size pack of about 6 (for newborn I would recommend buying onsies long sleeved that cover the hands, so the baby doesnât scratch itself.)
Size 0-3 months about 6 onsies
Size 3-6 about 6-9 onsies
Pants (Walmart sells great pants, I think they are Faded Glory, that are cotton and skinny at the bottom, which is great, especially for a newborn baby, you can put socks over pants and layer with another set of clothes on top if it is cold, or for summer nights, these pants donât expose babyâs legs as much as regular pants do, which you donât want when it is cold)
Sweaters (couple heavier ones and couple light ones, preferable without a hood, hoods just donât seem comfortable for baby to lay on)
Pack of socks
Pack of hats
Couple going out outfits, but donât buy anything less than 0-3 months (Babies really do grow fast)
Receiving Blankets (get as much as you can) I use them as towels after giving baby a bath, swaddling, diaper changing cover, etc.
Swing
Bassinet (or just a crib) or playpen (some come with little bassinet for baby to sleep in and changing table, and also can be used instead of a crib when baby gets older)
Crib/Bassinet sheets
Bathtub- we use Fisher-Price Precious Whale and we like it so far, its lightweight, cheap, and has plenty of room for bigger baby (and can be used from newborn size)
Baby Shampoo and Body wash
Grooming Kit
Wash cloths
I would actually make a medicine kit-get fever reducing meds, gripe water (naturally calming) etc
Breastfeeding pillow
Nipple cream
Electric Breast Pump (with all the essentials like storage bags)
Bottles
Formula (just in case, get one can, we use Babies R Us Advantage, its comparable to Similac Advance but almost 50% cheaper and just as goodâ¦.we tried both)
Bibs (preferably that have the closing tab on the side instead of the back, I found it was more comfortable for my baby)
Drying rack
Microwave sterilizer
Bottle warmer (very very useful if bottle feeding)
Formula Dispenser
Pacifiers (My son loves Avent, plus it comes with a cap so the pacifier stays clean)
Diaper Genie (I heard it was useless, well when my sonâs poo started smelling, it wasnât useless anymore!)
Thermometer if it doesnât come with the grooming kit, which it should
Diaper Bag (although a big purse with lots of pockets and compartments will do)
Toys (babies love toys that make noise, like rattles)
For later: High Chair, walker( or jumperoo or exercauser)
I think that covers most of it. Check out craigslist.com, you will find a lot of good products for much cheaper)

When Should I Start Buying Baby Things?
Q. I am currently 20 weeks pregnant with my first child, and I am unsure of the sex of the baby.
I am going to struggle a bit financially with this baby, as I am only 18. I wasn't ready for a baby, but the BC pill failed me, so here I am dealing with it the best I can.
I know there are some things you pretty much have to buy new such as a car seat - but what else?
What things are safe to buy second-hand?
I will be buying the babies clothes, bedding, bottles etc. brand new, because I just have an issue with those items being second-hand, unless it's clothing - in good condition - passed down from someone I know.
I have about $4000 in a savings account, which was to be used for travel next year as I have just finished my high school education, but obviously now that will be going to my baby. Where I live there is also a baby bonus - which is around $5000 to help pay for baby things. $9000 seems a lot right now, but that's not going to last very long.
So basically, what should I start buying now, and what should be bought later (if anything)?
Thanks :)
The baby bonus is money given to parents by the government to help with the baby. It works out to be about $5000, but I have a feeling that it can change depending on income. It is paid in instalments over a certain period of time. Unfortunately many young mothers use the money for themselves, and not for their babies, which is sad.
If you don't mind, I'd love that list of all the baby stuff I will need!
To the answerer that said I am ignorant, and just a poor teenager; I'll have you know that I have gone from part-time work to full-time work now that I have finished school. I have worked for the same company for 3 and a half years. I am on the highest salary per hour of people my age. I am not poor, as I am capable of saving. I want the best for my child, and that means I will not use second-hand bottles (think of the germs, people!) or stained clothing. Many couples with both partners working struggle financially when they have a baby. So keep your ignorant opinion to yourself.
THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who answered my question kindly. It helps me to feel like people actually understand me.
I am deferring from university for two years, to spend time with my little one, and to work to save as much money as possible. After the two years are up, I am going to study nursing or teaching. My baby will be left with my mother, or enrolled in the childcare facility of the university if it is not too expensive. I see childcare as a good opportunity for socialisation.
I already have my own car, thank goodness, because that is another huge expense I don't have to deal with.

Answer
There are plenty of things you can buy second hand!
I would try for everything, besides clothes, bibs and diapers haha.
I understand that you find it a little icky, and believe me, I completely agree.
But if you are that desperate, it's always possible.
If you were to buy EVERYTHING new (my man and I calcuated everything at Babies R Us) it would be around $3,000 in the end. This includes crib, car seat, stroller etc.
Then you can count on $200-$300 a month for everything.
This includes diapers, little clothing items (new socks, bibs), baby powder, baby oil, formula (if you choose to use it)
You're in a much better situation than a lot of young mom's.
What is this baby bonus? Haha I'd love that to be explained, I am intrigued.
Generally, a lot women don't start to buy things until their third trimester begins.
This way they can have their baby shower first, and buy whatever else is needed.
Plus, since there are so many things that can go wrong in early pregnancy, a lot of women prefer to wait.
If you want a list of EVERYTHING you probably need, I can help out with that, we've done all of the math haha.
Right now, you can get the huge things out of the way.
Buy the crib, changing table, dresser(if you're buying one).
This way, once you find out the sex, you can get all the extras.
Have you decided what you are using: Cradle, Basinette, Crib etc.
Also, consider Travel System Strollers.
They are a car seat and stroller all in one. Basically you lift the car seat in and out of the stroller. It's cheaper than buying both, and very very convenient.
***EDIT
Here's a quick list of baby basics.
This doesn't include diapers, baby health stuff, bathing stuff, feeding etc.
Just some basic gear and equipment and nursery items most first mom's like to get:
Not ALL of it is necessary of course.
⢠Glider (It's like a rocking chair. Very important for comfy breastfeeding etc)
⢠Crib
⢠Changing Table
⢠Storage Unit/Dresser
⢠Stroller
⢠Playard
⢠Video Monitor(or just a regular baby monitor)
⢠Bedding Set (crib stuff - usually includes bumper, sheets and a few other things)
⢠Hamper
⢠Rug
⢠Diaper Stacker
⢠Blanket
⢠Mobile
⢠Jumperoo or Walker
⢠Swing
⢠Bouncer (it's kind of like a mini bed that bounces, most babies love it)
⢠Activity Gym
⢠Crib Soother (that thing you attach to the crib that gives out soothing sounds)
⢠High Chair
⢠Changing Pad (it's something you can lay on your floor at home to change them on, instead of using the changing table every time.
⢠Boppy
⢠Sling
⢠Changing Pad (portable one, it folds up for easy transport)
⢠Wipe Warmer (not completely necessary, but I like to think babies appreciate it, not so cold on their bottoms)
⢠Car Seat Toy (like a mobile you attach to the handle for entertainment)
⢠Room Thermometer (just to make sure it's a good temp in the nursery, babies are very aware of temperature)
⢠Head Support (a kind of slip-in headrest, mostly for the car seat, so their heads don't bounce around)
⢠Receiving Blankets
⢠Bibs
⢠Swaddle Blankets
⢠Pacifiers
⢠Bottle Brush
⢠Bottle Drier
⢠Bottles
⢠Diaper Genie
And then of course you can buy more things for the nursery. Find a set that matches your original bedding set. You can usually find matching things like lamps, wall decals, window valance etc.
I went to a bunch of websites, and the best deals were from Babies R Us or WalMart. EVERYTHING totalled is around $3200, minus shipping, and that's not even getting all the crappiest items. We chose medium-priced ones.
And keep in mind, if you are having a baby shower, a lot of these items will be bought for you.
You can even register at Babies R Us or WalMart, Target or whatever.
Buy the big things as soon as you like, and leave the little things like bibs, bottles, pacifiers, diaper genie for after the baby shower. No sense is doubling up on things you only need one of especially.
Good luck with everything.
