I love Agi
Hey everyone, I am looking for the most motivating dog toy out there to use while training agility w/ my 2 Australian Cattle Dog mixes. Thanks!
I am interested in the KONG wubba......
Answer
I like a toy that will toss well & they can tug with me too. Then I can use the toy in different ways to encourage or reinforce different behaviors. My guys favorite motivational toy is always a cloth frisbee. Of course I can throw it, but they love to tug with it also. They love the polar fleece braided tugs. Great for tugging, but only toss fair. My BC girl loves those cheap rope knot balls with the handle (they win them at trials a lot). Nice to toss for fetch or she adores tugging with them also. A lot of dogs really like a riot stick. Mine aren't that enchanted. My guys like the flappy stick better. Like a riot stick, but no handle. It has strips like a kong wubba to tug at either end. The kong wubba itself is quite nice too. I have a few of those, different sizes. Both dogs really enjoy them. Throw well for fetch & good to tug too. My BC girl Lyra in my avatar, her "be-all-end-all" reward is water. The baby pool or water trough to get in, but the absolute BEST reward for her is the hose! My old MACH girly Chynna, she didn't care much for toys ( I wish I had built up her toy-drive early on), but she absolutely adored tugging her leather leash. Huge motivation, reward & stress reliever for her. Always pumped her up big-time before a run. God, I miss that dog!
Try different toys, see what works well for you & your dogs. See what really turns them on. Use that toy to help build their toy-drive. But don't be afraid to switch it up sometimes too! All these toys I keep for just training & playing with me. This way they keep a very high reward value. Also keeps them from tearing them up! lol
