My friend is REALLY funny, and im pretty funny too, but i want to be funnier. what are some ways to be funnier?
Answer
Well, that's a wide open request.
First, get some training.
Funny is not always natural; you CAN train to be funny. A fact you probably agree with or you wouldn't be asking for ways to get funnier. Look into local improvisation, clowning, theater, stand-up, and sketch-writing classes. Watch and read about comedy--and don't just watch to laugh, but watch and ask "what made that joke work?" and "would that have been funnier if...?"
Second, practice!
Enter comedy contests (especially film. The editing process can be very enlightening on how half a second can make the difference in a slight chuckle and a fall out of one's chair laugh). Go do stand-up at an open mike night. Tell jokes to friends and family. Yeah, some fail, but each time you learn a little more about why. Ask any professional stand up: they've all had nights where they bombed and that's how they honed their material.
Third, learn about comedy.
Get some books and read up on it. There's all sorts of comedy out there: parody, satire, puns, slapstick, comedia del'arte, political, low brow, high brow, prop, sketch, etc. Study up! You'll not only learn more about being funny, but you'll develop a range so that you aren't just one type of funny.
Fourth, learn about NOT comedy.
People love references. References to pop culture, to history, to politics, to current events. Some of the best and funniest comedians out there - Conan O'Brien, Al Franken, Bill Mahr, Dennis Miller, Jimmy Carr, Robin Williams circa 1980, Penn & Teller, etc - are also some of the smartest, most attuned, most up-to-date and informed people you'll ever meet. Knowledge gives your comedy breadth and depth.
Fifth, hang around funny people.
Funny people tend to make you funnier. You can study them, or just lose yourself in the moment with them.
Finally, don't try to be funny.
Seriously. Most comedians who feel the need to be "on" all the time actually aren't as all there as you'd think...and if you watch them, they aren't as funny as they seem, either. It's a trick. They throw so much mud at the wall that enough sticks, but they have a lot of misses, too.
And, if you try to hard to be funny, you forget that funny varies from person to person. Your "funny" friend may only be funny because of who he or she is around. Would those same jokes be funny to a preacher? A soldier? A man? A woman? etc. trying to be funny often limits your range in my experience. I prefer quality funny to quantity funny, myself. I'll take 10 REALLY good laughs in a 30 minutes sitcom to 30 OK ones, any day.
Besides, there is a great joy in being the "straight man" who sets the funny guy up. There's a reason there is a Laurel AND a Hardy, an Abbott AND a Costello.
Oh, and don't view laughs as the only gauge of whether or not you are being funny. Laughs can be misleading. Good comedians can also make you cry, cringe, and cuddle.
As Keith Johnstone put it (roughly): "You may drool and people may laugh. So, naturally, you drool again to get more laughs. Soon, you're known as 'the Drooling Comedian' which is NOT your goal. Don't be deceived by laughter."

racist jokes are funny. make fun of people of other ethnicity...think of something fun.. watch youtube videos that are funny.. stereotypical jokes.. try using accents...for example if you dont have an accent.. try imitating british accent or mexican accent or asian accent... that would be unexpected and you would make people laugh...watch funny videos.. like not another teen movie or the hot chick( rob schenider)... try mocking people that you think are funny.. have a sense of humor.. and be goofy instead being too uptight and serious... mostly funny people are goofy and dont take things too serious... funny people knows when to be funny and when to be serious... watch funny movies...be yourself... either you have it or you dont... some people are naturally funny and some people arent... ....
