Why are toys such crap nowadays?

Every toy I buy my kids is made so poorly. Pieces fall off, or it doesn't work. It is ridiculous!

How do I get my kid to listen to me?

I have an almost 10 year old that is a holy terrot when he doesn't get his way...I have no idea what to do...everything that I try fails...Like today I told him to go to his room and he said "No" so I said you better get your booty to your room or your grounded...then he said no, so I drug him to his room...on the way he started kicking and hitting me and screamimg (like if someone heard him they would think he was being murdered). I just don't know what to do...

Any advice?
Thanks so much for all the ideas! I have already taken all his things away (his room is empty). He just doesn't seem to care! He is fine and listens when my hubby is home but once he goes to work he starts up again! It's just so frustrating!

Consistency is the key, but it appears that his behavior is off the charts so I would "hit" him hard.

1. Take away all things that mean something to him. I'm talking electronics, toys, sports, everything, except for books.

2. He can earn privileges back (one at a time) when he behaves appropriately for xx amount of days.

3. If he backslides, the privileges earned back will be taken again.

I haven't had this problem, but believe the above should work. It's what one of my friends did with their out of control 10 yr old girl and it starting working in about 2 days. Her behavior improved and she started earning stuff back.
