puppy love
I have been hearing a lot about how puppy mills are bad. I'm not sure what puppy mills are. Please explain!
Answer
Puppy mills are breeding facilities that produce purebred puppies in large numbers.
Often the puppies are sold directly to the public via the Internet, newspaper ads, or at the mill itself. In other cases they are sold to brokers and pet shops across the country.
The problems of puppy mills include: overbreeding, inbreeding, minimal veterinary care, poor quality of food and shelter, lack of human socialization, overcrowded cages and the killing of unwanted animals.
This situation frequently means buying a puppy facing an array of immediate veterinary problems or harboring genetic diseases that surface years later.
It's sad really, there are so puppies so most of them aren't given the attention they need... many of them have health conditions...and are neglected, this is why so many people are against puppy mills.
Oprah recently had an episode on puppy mills, to watch some of it and see what puppy mills are like go to the following link:

Food puppies can get?
Candykisse
Other than puppy chow and milk and water
Answer
Puppies should be introduced to dry kibble moistened with some warm water around 4 weeks old, while they begin to wean from their mother. A puppy should never be taken from it's mother before 8 weeks. A pup older than 8 weeks does not need milk or a milk sub of any kind, dry kibble and water is enough. Puppies and dogs of all ages should be fed high quality foods. They should never be fed a food that contains corn, wheat, or soy, as these are known allergens. California Naturals, Merrick, Innova, Wellness, and Blue Buffalo all make great puppy foods. Stay away from Purina, Eukanuba, Science Diet, and anything else you can buy at the grocery store. Table scraps should not be given.
