Answer
Here is a list of the stuff that I used every day with my son:
-baby bath tub/bath soap/baby towel's
-diaper bag
-bottles and a bottle drying rack
-pack n' play
-crib
-clothes (sometimes i change his clothes several times a day)
-swaddling blankets
-crib sheets (had to change those a lot too)
-boppy pillow- http://www.boppy.com/ ( this thing is so awesome!!)
- diapers/wipes/rash cream
-baby hat
-hand mits (keeps thej from scratching themselves)
-baby oil
-binki and extra binki's(for the first two months)
-gily water for colic
-walker
-toy's such as a mirror and mobile for stimulation and teething toys and a toy mat
-baby monitor
-diaper genii pale (cuts down on all those smelly diapers ten fold as opposed to tossing them in your trash can.
-high chair
- baby car seat
-toddler front facing car seat (my son is 2 now)
-large stroller
As far as the crib dilemma you have, no you don't "need" a crib, but it's a good thing to have. For the first 4 months I used my son's pack n' play as his bed becuase he wouldn't sleep through the night and it was much easier to have him next to my bed when I got up. When he was 4 months old he started sleeping through the night, at which point I put him in his crib in his bedroom. I set up a baby monitor so I can hear him. The crib I bought is a transitional, meaning it starts off as just a crib, but you can turn it into a toddler bed and then when your child is 4 or five it transitions into a full-size bed that you can buy a mattress for. I liked this idea a lot becuase this bed will be with him for life. If you do not have to do this, but it's a nice investment. The pack n' play I got also doubles as a diaper changing station and it converts from a baby bassinet to a play pen, so at this point I turned it into a play pen which was nice. I highly recommend buying convertible furniture, it;s worth it. If you don't get a crib then at the very least you need a pack n' play.
Also, when you buy diapers before you have your baby I suggest investing in only a few packs of newborn diapers becuase they only go up to 9lbs. My son was too big for them when he was born so he was in size ones from the get go. If you have a 9lb baby get size ones. As far as sizing goes the same rule goes for clothing too. Don't get a ton of newborn outfits becuase I can guarantee your baby will not be in them for long. 0-6 months, 3-6 months and 0-3 motnhs sizes are what you want to stock up on. You'll want to get a lot of onsies and only a few outfits. Onsies come in long or short sleeve for the weather and they are a lot easier to get baby in and out of, especially since I can guarantee you'll be changing outfits a lot in the first 12 months. Also get a bunch of socks becuase they get lost due to how small they are.
As far as what brands of diapers and wipes it depends. Wipes are easy enough. Any store bought brand works good. (Kroger, Wal-mart, Target, ect) they all work well and they come in scented or unscented. They are also cheapest. Diapers on the other hand are tricky. My son has been through a few brands and it was trial and error. Some fit better than others did. I started him out in pampers swaddlers, but switched to Huggies snug n' dry. he was in huggies up until he was in a size 4 at which point I changed to Papmers little cruisers. Now he's in pull up's becuase he's potty training, but at night I put him in Kroger's store brand and those hold really well. I was never a fan of any kind of Luv's diapers. They were thin and long. My son is long and fat. The tabs also busted a lot too. As far as rash cream goes I used to use Desitin but I switched to Bordeaux's Butt Paste, becuase it it thicker and works better.
lastly, rummage sales and second hand stores are awesome. I got a lot of my son's stuff including his walker at Once Upon a Child, which is a second hand store. You don't have to buy all the stuff new, especially clothes. They grow out of them so fast you can get so much more and really cute stuff used.

Second pregnancy But first baby. Questions?
Lovely
Hi everyone i am just wanting to ask come questions since this is going to be my first actual baby i lost my first at about 14 weeks. On monday i will be 23 weeks.
What all did you buy around 23 weeks?
I found out the sex of my baby when i was 16 weeks and i also got another one at 21 weeks because the doctor couldn't see the spine that great so i know deff. its a girl.
Do you think i have to much already? I have my crib, changing table, all the beding, one box of diapers, whipes, clothes, carseat, and stoller, swing, bouncy, and boppie. Im not getting anymore till after the baby shower.
So what all did you have at 23 weeks for your little one
Answer
I waited until my baby shower to buy anything so I bought whatever I didn't get but needed. Someone said to get bunch of diapers, I wouldn't just because babies grow at different rates, and you will have to buy different sizes at different rates and amounts. If you want to start buying diapers, I would suggest you get 1 box of newborn size diapers, 1 box of size one diapers, 1 box size 2 diapers, 2-3 size 3 boxes. Here is a list of some newborn essentials, its personally what we used with our son, of course over time needs change, and different parents have different preferences, but this is a basic outline.
List of Newborn essentials
Car seat and stroller
Diapers (we use Pampers Baby Dry and they work very good, no leakage, but if you want a cheaper alternative, Parentâs Choice Walmart brand diapers are pretty good as well) 1 box Newborn size, 2 boxes size 1, two boxes size 2, and 3 boxes size 3 (you donât want to overstock on diapers, because you never know how big the baby will be and how fast it will grow. Donât open boxes that you are not using, in case the baby grows out of a size, you can exchange unopened box for different size or brand , Walmart will let you do that for sure)
Wipes- I like the store brand ones like Babies R Us, Target, or Walmart
Onsies (otherwise known as bodysuits)- Newborn size pack of about 6 (for newborn I would recommend buying onsies long sleeved that cover the hands, so the baby doesnât scratch itself.)
Size 0-3 months about 6 onsies
Size 3-6 about 6-9 onsies
Pants (Walmart sells great pants, I think they are Faded Glory, that are cotton and skinny at the bottom, which is great, especially for a newborn baby, you can put socks over pants and layer with another set of clothes on top if it is cold, or for summer nights, these pants donât expose babyâs legs as much as regular pants do, which you donât want when it is cold)
Sweaters (couple heavier ones and couple light ones, preferable without a hood, hoods just donât seem comfortable for baby to lay on)
Pack of socks
Pack of hats
Couple going out outfits, but donât buy anything less than 0-3 months (Babies really do grow fast)
Receiving Blankets (get as much as you can) I use them as towels after giving baby a bath, swaddling, diaper changing cover, etc.
Swing
Bassinet (or just a crib) or playpen (some come with little bassinet for baby to sleep in and changing table, and also can be used instead of a crib when baby gets older)
Crib/Bassinet sheets
Bathtub- we use Fisher-Price Precious Whale and we like it so far, its lightweight, cheap, and has plenty of room for bigger baby (and can be used from newborn size)
Baby Shampoo and Body wash
Grooming Kit
Wash cloths
I would actually make a medicine kit-get fever reducing meds, gripe water (naturally calming) etc
Breastfeeding pillow
Nipple cream
Electric Breast Pump (with all the essentials like storage bags)
Bottles
Formula (just in case, get one can, we use Babies R Us Advantage, its comparable to Similac Advance but almost 50% cheaper and just as goodâ¦.we tried both)
Bibs (preferably that have the closing tab on the side instead of the back, I found it was more comfortable for my baby)
Drying rack
Microwave sterilizer
Bottle warmer (very very useful if bottle feeding)
Formula Dispenser
Pacifiers (My son loves Avent, plus it comes with a cap so the pacifier stays clean)
Diaper Genie (I heard it was useless, well when my sonâs poo started smelling, it wasnât useless anymore!)
Thermometer if it doesnât come with the grooming kit, which it should
Diaper Bag (although a big purse with lots of pockets and compartments will do)
Toys (babies love toys that make noise, like rattles)
For later: High Chair, walker( or jumperoo or exercauser)
I think that covers most of it. Check out craigslist.com, you will find a lot of good products for much cheaper)
