What's a fun birthday party to throw for a 2 year old?

Country Gi

My daughter is turning 2 on September 2nd and I'm not sure what to do for her party, also any present ideas would be very welcomed!

Answer
Lol, it's funny, my dad always says the exact same thing as everyone else here. "Why are you doing a big party? Why are you wasting money? Your baby is only 2, they won't remember any of it and it's just for you..."

I understand the intent behind it, but I don't fully agree. I actually DO remember events that happened when I was a toddler, about 2 years old, and some memories I have my parents were able to confirm were even when I was younger than that and couldn't talk!

While I do think you shouldn't go crazy and spend a lot of money if you don't have to, especially if you are strapped for cash, I do think there is nothing wrong with having fun and enjoying the celebration of your little one's big day! Besides, what most people don't consider when they tell you that you shouldn't worry about it because it won't be remembered, is that often times you are inviting cousins and other children who ARE old enough to remember, and who wants to be known as the mom who threw a boring party for her kid?

There are so many themes out there to choose from, just pick whatever sounds cute to you. Does your daughter like a particular tv character? Like, maybe Minnie Mouse, or Dora the Explorer, or something like that? You could pick any preschool show as a good theme for her party. Or maybe if she has a favorite animal she likes, you could do that. Ponies or panda bears,or just whatever you can think of! Pink and purple are always cute colors for a girl's party.

As far as gifts for a 2 year old, there are TONS of toys made for that age range. Go to Walmart or Toys R Us and just pick something out. You could even take her to the toy store and let her look around, when she finds something she likes, you can go back later and buy it without her or you could even buy it while she is with you and simply hide it for a few days until she forgets about it. Then you just wrap it up and she will be just as surprised to see it on her birthday as if she had never seen it before! Fisher-Price and Little People are good brands with a wide range of toys you could choose from. If she is into dolls you could get her doll stuff, and if she is into coloring and artsy stuff you could buy a little art easel or something. There are endless amounts of possibilities for what you could do.

Good luck, I hope you find a good theme that you like, I'm sure your daughter will be happy with whatever you do for her, even if it's small! Happy early birthday to your little princess!!! =)

One Year Old Too Young To Go Trick Or Treating?

Pink Cupca

My daughter is over a year old now. she will be 14 months old around halloween time, and I got her a cute little costume, and I was hoping to take her trick or treating for a little while. Maybe just a block of houses or so, since she's so little. but I think she'd have fun with it, and I know I would too. lol and I would let her eat a couple pieces of the candy after we are done. Do you think this is too young to start trick or treating, what have you done with your kids?

Answer
Our daughter was 13 months last year and she went trick or treating as "Minnie Mouse". She loved it. She started walking at 9 months, so by the time Halloween rolled around, she was a great walker and walked the whole time we trick or treated (2 hours), which I didn't expect. We took her stroller, but we ended up putting the candy bucket in it instead of her lol. We Trick or Treat in a small community that really just sits on their front door steps and hands out candy to hundreds of kids on Trick or Treat night...so toddlers and even babies trick or treating in our area isn't out of the norm. Many people in our area even give out little trinket toys instead of candy that are age appropriate for most kids...small slinky's, figurines, etc...so our daughter got a lot she could play with in her loot and the dum dum suckers were great for her with supervision. The majority of Halloween candy is thrown away no matter what age, so being a toddler and trick or treating really doesn't matter when it comes to that...unless someone has a kid who is a "candyholic"..lol. Trick or Treat is more about fun than candy anyway and you can't put an age on fun...go with what you feel is right for your daughter no matter what others say.

I personally don't think that a year old is too young, but its really up to you. Our daughter had fun and was a trooper in walking. I kept saying that when she got tired that we would go home, but she lasted the whole time and loved it. Hope this helps.
