where to buy cheap rat toys?

Jessica

we r going shoping for toys n treats tmoorow

Answer
you don't necessarily need to buy them that many toys. there are so many things that are cheap or even free that they really enjoy. my girls have a washing up bowl that I fill up with toilet roll tubes and sheets of kitchen roll, offcuts of fleece, small chew toys etc, that they love rummaging through.

you can also get cheap fleece gloves, put treats in the fingers, tie it closed and hang it. this way they have to tear every finger open to get to the treats, so it keeps them entertained for longer than a sock would

the Dapper Rat website has LOTS of excellent cheap or free ideas for rat entertainment.

you can often pick up suitable childrens toys that rats would enjoy at charity shops. and pound shops often have lots of great things for them

you can also get cardboard wine bottle carriers in most supermarkets, with six compartments, which are free, and even though I rarely buy wine, when I ask if I can have one, no one has ever refused to let me have one. rats enjoy these because it's like a cardboard box with six windows to peep out of or climb in and out.

boxes, toilet roll tubes, scrunched up paper, even some old or ruined clothes are good fun for rats.
a cut off leg from a pair of jeans can be hung up to make a great rattie tunnel, for example.

yes, there's lots of great things you can buy for rats (especially in the bird toy part of a pet shop) but there's also a lot you can make, or just give to the rats instead of throwing out.

What is a good cheap bird toy?

For a Cockatiel? Can you give me a link for the toy?

Answer
If you want cheap bird toys, think about making them yourself. Here are some links which explain how to make home-made bird toys:

You can also look around the house for toys your cockatiel can play with. Many cockatiels enjoy playing with toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls. Many cockatiels also enjoy shredding cereal boxes or chewing on plastic caps from coke, pepsi, or other drinks. Hope that helps you and your cockatiel out.
